Coming off a road bike years ago I always wished for a road bike with larger tire clearance. Then gravel cycling blew up and my dream bikes hit the market. Had a 2021 ALR 5 and upgraded to this SL5 this year before the tariffs hit. Only changes were keeping the wheels I had and used them here. Rene Herse 700×55 Antelope Hills tubeless with plenty of clearance for my riding. It’s it overkill for me who rides 99% road? Maybe to some, but who needs their teeth rattled out riding on imperfect road or god forbid a man-hole cover? DC roads have no right to feel this smooth.

Those are some chonky tires and I’m here for it 🤩
I’m in dc DC/ MD area too and love my checkpoint
How did you decide on 55s? Have tried 28, 32, 35mm but want to stay fast and light
I’m running 700×42 slicks as well on my gravel bike and on average outside of SAND i’m just as fast if not faster as i was on my 700×23 road bike.
Looks good to me my man! Enjoy the scenery
Love some super chonky slicks. Had some Naches Pass on my old touring bike. Very comfortable and still very fast rolling. I have found that a small knobs are a little more puncture resistant and seal a bit better, though. I’ve been wanting to try the new Corkscrew Climb semi-slicks.
I miss riding in the DMV area. Great roads on and off. Im in NC now which is…sub-par.
Wow. And I thought I had optimal chonk with my 40mm P-Zero TLRs. Love it.
Gives me an optical illusion making these tyres even wider than they are. Looks like a fat bike from side view lol
I like the fat tire size, but not a fan of the giant tanwalls. It would look better all black, IMHO.
Why have a quad lock and a computer mount?
love it
Do you love the 55’s?
I have the RH 44s – snoqualmie pass I believe they are called. Biggest I could fit.
Most comfortable ride I have experienced , I love them !
Very cool setup! What is the computer mount that you are using? It looks like it attaches over your stem somehow?
Love me some Rene Herse 😍
55s? I used smaller tyres when I races XC…
Wow Trek made a bike with subtle branding?
