    Usually they get going on foot and hop up, sort of like a dystopian penny farthing

    We called them jousting bikes at one point. They were literally used to joust

    Rode one once, it was just two frames welded together, one on top of another, the bottom bracket of the top one was attached to the down tube of the bottom one and the steering column lined up the two head sets. The guy who built it did it in a weekend or two for shits and giggles and riding on the board walk in San Diego. I always presumed all tall bikes were conceived under similar circumstances. To get on you sort of ran along and the climbed up the frame or pedals as it was moving. It was ton of fun to ride but kinda nerve wracking because you had to dismount anytime you stopped which meant you had to be super aware of what was going on around you.
