Join me on an ebike ride to Canterbury via some lovely lanes and some gravel trails, stour valley way , national cycle network route 18
Welcome back to the channel. It’s another cycling adventure today, not on Grand for a change. I’m going to be cycling to Canterbury and I’m going to follow the Stewart Valley walk. Uh there’s going to be some lanes, normal lanes, green lanes, footpaths, gravel, and then the city. show you some of the sites of Canterbury. Uh it’s about 20 20 miles. Um I’ve just noticed I’ve lost a bar already on me battery on me ebike. Um I didn’t bother charging it. So hope it hope to Christ it makes it cuz it’s bloody hard work if it fails. Right, let’s get going. Just outside of Y. Now, this looks like a Roman road if ever I saw one. Look at that. straight as an arrow. Cool. Some big fancy estate over there. What a side that goes. Wonder where that goes to. Have to have a look on the on the maps and see what that is. Some real massive estate. Chilling Charton. This is where we go off road. This is the proper cycle way to Canterbury. This where an ebike comes into its own, isn’t it? Look at that. Powering up here like it was nothing. This is fairly steep. Never looks it on camera. It’s quite steep. This is taking us down to the river Stewart. We got into a valley. Some nice lakes down here as well. I think they’re syndicate lakes. They’re quite exclusive fishing. Really expensive. Yeah, this is great. I like this. Bit different to the Romney Marsh, isn’t it? Oh, that’s actually a bridal way, not a green lane. Here we go. So, we’re going to follow this National Cycle Network, Route 18, straight across here. [Applause] Looks a bit like Puncher City. Yes, does. You don’t want a puncher. Right. I’ve got to show you this. You know, I like houses. Well, look at this one. Unusual cuz they’re square. Thruxstead host. Wow, what a place. What a place. Even got working like weather vein things on the top. Roses around the front. Wow. I’ve taken a bit of a wrong turn. I should have gone left back there, but then I would have missed that host host house. And I would have missed that. Bloody hell. Look at that place. Look at the size of it. Spooky. So, we’re headed towards Charleston now. I think the other way was just an easier route. Avoiding this hill, but this way is probably a little bit quicker. And it’s quiet, so it doesn’t matter, does it? I’m loving it so far. It’s no wonder that cycle route went the other way. Oh, this is a slog. The artich choke pen. This is Charton. Used to be an old paper mill here. It’s all the workers cottages. It’s all left abandoned. Awesome. This is it. The Great Stew Way. This is the home stretch now. It’s all flat all into Canterbury. Lucky we don’t know how the fish get on trying to get over that. A bit of a struggle, wouldn’t it? Ducks over there playing what a place problem you got loads of pedestrians. That’s the main railway line. again. I’ve passed a few cyclists coming the other way and my god, they all look so bloody miserable. You say good morning to them and they don’t even acknowledge you. Miserable old sods. Nice fishing lake to the to the left. water. I think it’s like Fort Knox. I think some of these lakes are like the home of UK cart fishing where where it all started. Wouldn’t mind living there right next to the Yeah. Share respect and joy. biker. Yeah. At least he smiled a little bit. He still didn’t say anything. We’re 20 miles in now. Nearly 21. We’re not far off the town center now. I just saw a tandem tricycle. Didn’t have the camera. Here we come. We’re coming into the This is the park right near the town center now. And I’ve just seen a punt go by with some tourists on it. Yeah. castle. Let’s go this way. Wow, look at this. Lovely weeping winnow trees. [Music] I want to play school party. What a lovely river. No, no, no. When we’re in the boat. Yeah. Not really cyclable now. It’s way too busy with people. I think it’s a boa tree from Africa or somewhere. Let’s have a little look at it. Yeah, there it is. Look at that. Yeah, you only normally see these in Africa. Boat. I think that’s the west gate. The pumps go from This is the main Kbury High Street. Some modern, some old. Three lining. Yeah. Camsbury Cathedral. We got some nice pies and pasties and things down here. I’m going to get one of these, I think. Oh, look at that. Please also do [Music] large. [Music] Take away. Uh, take away please. Can I have a a large traditional please and a cherry and almond bottom? Is that everything? That’s it. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Let’s do it again. the YouTube thing’s always got scaffolding around it. All right. Well, to get in there, you got to pay. And I’m not paying. Bloody hell. Watch where you’re going. God almighty. I’ve got away from the crowds. I’m going to cut off that really busy part of the river. I recognize this bit. I should be past most of the crowds now and tourists. Go find somewhere nice to sit down and eat me grub cuz I was getting starving. It’s 1:00. Can’t beat a nice Cornish pasty. And it’s nice and warm as well. And it’s compulsory. You eat it out of a paper bag as well. Tastes a lot better. Tell you what, I’ll give that a solid nine out of 10. That’s pretty pucker. That was a nice lunch stop. probably won’t film that much going back because it’s a repeat of coming here and the fact there’s a massive headwind now. So, it’s going to be a lot of wind noise. If there’s anything nice to see on the way back, I’ll I’ll film it. Also, the battery is getting low on the camera, so I’ll probably see you at home or near there. Heat. Heat. This is great fun coming along here. Oh, I met a lovely old couple back there. in their 70s, both on doors galaxies. They’re both traveling from Y to Canterbury and back. Poor old boy was struggling a little bit going uphill. Yeah, what a lovely couple. No, I’m down to one bar of battery. Never been down to one before. I don’t think it’s going to make it. We’re one final little stretch home now. Made it. Battery on the ebike just about made it. We’re down to one bar. That one bar has lasted a good 10 miles. So, we’re currently on 40 miles, 40.3. Got another mile or so left to go. Right, this last bit has been a right slog. We’re in headwind hills, twisty turny. Yeah, quite tough. Yeah, not like the Romney Marsh, that’s for sure. But that’s been something different. Anyway, I’ve enjoyed Canterbury off too many people. Really nice Cornish pasti in the past shop. Recommend that in the high street. Right, that’s it. Thanks for watching and I’ll see you on the next one which will probably be on another video. Cheerio.
