After waiting weeks for cheap parts, the build for my wife is finally complete!
I started with a 15.5” Hard Rock Specialized for $60. I was looking for a small frame to keep the reach in tact, so I got the shortest (and cheapest) 38cm bars I could find. Tried to remove the rust from the cranks, removed the smallest ring, then swapped drivetrain to Shimano Tourney 2×7 with a 32t cassette. Overhauled brakes and replaced pads, Replaced bottom bracket (💀), upgraded tires to 26×2.2 Race Kings, with some colorful accessories.
This was mostly proof of concept/fit, so I plan to make a few upgrades eventually: it needs a new freehub body and some pink jagwire cable housing. I got a suspension seat post but am waiting for the shim to arrive (this old specialized uses a rare 30.2 seat post).
All in im probably around $300 to bring this bike back to life, and it rides pretty well! Stoked on this mini monster gravel build

Just lovely. My only fear is with a zero stem (35mm?) maybe steering gets a little wobbly? I get it. Even the smallest 90s mtb still has the 56cm top tube :D. Anyway for what it counts, looks, the result is outstanding.

  2. Looks nice! I always wondered how you guys make V break work with road break levers…
