I recently upgraded my MTB to 200 mm rotors front and rear, and discovered a great workaround to save money and get stronger hardware.

Shimano doesn’t officially offer a Post Mount adapter for 160→200 mm, only for 203 mm. But I used the Shimano SM-MA-F220P/P adapter (meant for 180→220 mm) – and it works perfectly for 160→200 mm setups too.

✅ Why it works:
• It’s a +40 mm Post Mount to Post Mount adapter, and that’s all that matters.
• Going from 160→200 or 180→220 is the same vertical offset – 40 mm.
• Geometry, bolt spacing, and caliper position are identical.

🔧 My setup:
• Frame: Dartmoor Hornet 2020 (PM160 rear)
• Fork: RockShox Sektor 2018 (PM160 front)
• Calipers: SRAM Code RS
• Rotors: 200 mm front and rear

🔩 Adapter mounting:
• Comes with M6x20 mm bolts for frame/fork mounting.
• You’ll need to buy M6 x 25 mm bolts separately to mount the caliper – I measured this myself. Make sure to get bolts rated 8.8 strength or higher.

💪 Bonus: This Shimano adapter is way more solid than the Reverse Components +40 mm or even the SRAM adapter.
• More metal, thicker arms, no flex.
• It’s slightly heavier, but built like a tank – clearly made to handle 220 mm rotor loads.

💸 Price comparison:
• Shimano SM-MA-F220P/P: ~$8.50
• Reverse Components PM+40 mm: ~$21.50
• SRAM +40 mm PM adapter: ~$20 – $23.50

➡️ So I saved about $12–15 per adapter, and got a stronger, more reliable setup.

📷 I’ll post photos in the comments – if both front and rear setups are clean, perfectly centered, and 100% solid.

Hope this helps someone trying to run 200 mm rotors without spending extra or compromising on quality. Shimano’s marketing just doesn’t mention 200 mm rotors, but this adapter does the job flawlessly.

  1. If you at any point even considered buying 20$+ adapters, that’s just dumbass tax. It’s not nuclear science, any non-Aliexpress from a reputable brand would work (assuming caliper clearance is good).

And adapters are not height-specific, they just give you +20 or +40 or whatever mm on any combo of disks and calipers.
