I hope this video helps any of you with concerns about Loughborough University.

If you have any more questions feel free to put them in the comments or DM me on instagram.

I wish you the best of luck starting this academic year, see you around.

so I’ve made quite a few videos on lb University now whether that be reviews or day in the life and Vlogs and through making these videos I’ve been asked a variety of different questions on the YouTube comment section and also on my Instagram and so today I wanted to go through most of these questions and make a Q&A Style video with the questions I’ve been asked in the past and hopefully this helps any of you who are looking to start this upcoming Academic Year which is coming very very soon firstly do you have any tips to find friends who don’t enjoy clubbing except ET but still want to enjoy themselves well I wanted to start this question because is a massive stereotype of University there’s the big going out clubbing and drinking culture and and it’s true I’m I’m not denying that it’s not true it certainly is a true part of university but does this mean you as someone who may not necessarily be into that scene has to do it themselves no it doesn’t there’s a big big community of people who don’t necessarily involve themselves in this scene me being included in that Community I mean at the start of the year when you go there and you turn up for the freshest week you’ll probably get involved the best way to meet people is by going to these clubbing events with them you don’t have to stay for long you don’t have to drink anything just turn up try and meet some new people I mean one of the best mates I’ve met from University I met in a club and that was probably the most unlikely place we would ever have met each other but we did you know that’s where it’s just where you were but after the precious week and you don’t necessarily want to go out clubbing and people are still going out every week the best place for you to meet friends is in lectures and also by following societies that match your interests and sports as well so let’s say you like badminton and you also like dancing and debating by turning up to the badminton University trials and the and the Halls trials and then turning up to dance classes with societies whether it be like salsa or something and then also turning up to debating Society you’re going to meet people who have similar interests to you and all these people may not necessarily want to be in the clubbing scene and if they are it doesn’t even matter you don’t have to go clubbing with them because you’re still socializing with them through the societies that you are a part of so yes you definitely can find people and make friends not through the clubbing scene just go just follow your interests and you will meet people with similar interests to you what Hall did I go to and what is it like well if you’ve watched my day in the life videos you will know that I am in Royce Hall and I’m staying there next year it’s a case all it’s one of the cheaper hules It’s banging the center of lbo in the Village Center with other hules like Faraday and Kaye and rubford I like it there it’s also why I’m staying there next year I mean I could have moved to a different Hall if I wanted to I don’t I’m I’m happy in Roy I like it especially like its location and I also like the fact it’s C it saves a lot of time and I would recommend it especially if you’re looking for a c University lifestyle if you want to see what my room is like and maybe a bit more in depth about that you can watch my day in life videos would I have picked L br or Nottingham University well I mean I am at lra so that might that might give a an idea of what I’m going to answer here obviously luur and Nottingham are very close there are some differences lur is more of a town University the university is more of the University campus itself whereas Nottingham is a typical City uni where you’re in a city so there are some differences I one of my close mates from school is actually at Nottingham un you know where they are in England so similar I would say if you’re more into clubbing uh rather than sport probably go to Nottingham you probably have better Club experiences and the fact you’re in a city it’s probably a bit more lively a bit more social but if you’re more into Sport and maybe a little bit of a quieter lifestyle than L is probably better and I think that goes on to what my answer is I always would have picked lra I I love the sports out of lra I’ve enjoyed lra so much and um yeah for me I’d always pick lra and there’s a there’s a rivalry here L Nottingham is a slight rivalry how did I decide on my on my subject so I’m studying PPE politics philosophy economics so I did economics at a level but I also had a prior interest in philosophy I’d read a couple philosophical works as you may tell from my earlier videos um especially videos around stoicism and I’d also listen to a lot of podcasts and watched a lot of videos on philosophical and even touching on political ideas I saw PP as a pretty good match for for not just what I had studies but also for my interests I’d also I’d also studied history at a level which went into into British Politics the history of British politics which I found relatively interesting as well and I done Spanish which obviously where the languages breathe from and I’ll and I’ll get on to the pp course later but that is basically how I decided my subjects and if I’m and if I’m to give any advice to you someone maybe in year 12 or you just started year 13 and you’re looking to maybe think about what subject you want to study at Uni look at what you’re studying and also look at what interest you have outside of studying if you can find a course that matches to two then you’re going to find what you’re good at academic matching with what you find interesting and that’s going to make a good combination for for Success moving on to languages how do I learn languages whilst at Uni well there’s two options here you can either do one or the other or both really a lot of courses in the first year give you an option mine didn’t but they some do give you an option and they give you an option to learn the language whilst doing your your uni and this means it has all the importance so it has the credits in your first year and you can pick languages such as Chinese Spanish German Italian French some of might not be true but the mainstream languages are usually up for offer or you can entirely focus on academics with with your modules and then you can also learn a language in your free time how would you learn a language in a free time well I’ve done many videos on learning languages in your in your own time um and that’s basically by teaching yourself is there enough time to learn a language by teaching yourself in the first year yes yes there definitely is definitely is if you want to Le a language if you’re motivated to learn a language whilst doing your modules at University there is certainly enough time time to do both what Hall is closest to the football pitch it’s a bit of a it’s a bit of a vague question that um if you haven’t been to Lu University although there there’s multiple different football pitches scattered around all over the place and there’s multiple different Cricket pitches and hockey pitches and Athletics and and swimming so I I’ll quickly go through it Towers is closest to the gym the main rugby pitch and a football pitch then you have the Village Center which is close to some hockey pitches and a a five side pitch which is going to be highly important uh for this question and then you go a little bit further onto the other side of the of the Village Center so maybe places like tford Elvin Richards um and they’re getting closer to the multiple football pitches at the end but all these football pitches can’t just be used by the students when they want right so the football stadium can’t just be used the most of the pitches can’t just be used they have to be booked and if you want to book them you have to pay money so that’s your problem the areas you want to look to be close to all the areas with purple fences because that’s the area where you can just like you can just jump in and play and and that’s it so we’re talking the pickup basketball area and the the five side football pitch and then if you’re really into the gym then you might want to be closer to the gym there’s also hollyw gym which is the other side close to the five side football pitch it’s all the all the ones in the Village Center so Royce is really close to the five side football pitch then if you’re talking to pick up basketball area TOS is probably closest but the Village Center is still about 10 minutes away maybe five if you walk FAS is definitely closest to the power based gym but is also the furthest away from the holw World Gym so if you want to mix the two I’d say the Village Center is probably the best area you’re about 10 1550 minutes away from the hollyw well and you’re about 10 minutes away from the power base in the Village Center you’re going to be in the middle of everything for your lectures as well I know this is a bit biased because that’s where I spent my time but from my experience it’s been pretty good you’re also close to that F side football pitch what are the football Tri outs like good question because it’s not that obvious I remember when we went there and everyone was saying right they’re going to do drills and we’re going to fitness test and then we’ll have a little game at the end there’ll probably be little mini games like rondos and stuff going on they’re going to really test you to see what’s happening that they don’t they don’t do that um it’s just a game you turn up you put your bibs on you play a game for 40 minutes and that’s it 750 trial lists 25 getting it’s very tough it’s incredibly difficult to get into the lury University football teams at the first 750 they take away most people and then they knock it down to 150 where they do callbacks and then they pick the 25 that they want sometimes you’ll put into a last 90 Master Class to I guess they want to keep track with how you’re doing the advice I would give to you for the football Tri is definitely go it’s 100% worth a try and also the fact is only 40 minutes take your opportunities and take risks you you obviously want to play sensibly you don’t want to be seen as a selfish player but it’s a tough balance because you you want to play you want to play sensibly but you also want to stand out and to stand out you have to take a risk so if you if you’re a Winger and you get the ball in the wing you see a play in front of you take them on and take a shot don’t play it across even if a better option is not to do that just take on the player and take a shot and if it goes wrong you lose the ball whatever you’ve taken the risk you know you’ve given your best effort you don’t want to walk away from there thinking to yourself I had a couple opportunities to take a risk and I didn’t I stayed I stayed a bit paranoid and and I didn’t do anything and then you didn’t stand out with trials like this you’ve really got to be an optimist you’ve really got to try and stand out as well as being a sensible player there’s a balance but once you get the opportunity take it can you bring your game PC and monitor to the uni sure sure I’m sure you can I know people have brought their their gaming consoles and their and their TVs and and everything into un I personally didn’t but you can do that if you want if you think it’s not going to take away time from your from your studies if that’s what you want to do in your free time sure it’s not necessarily what I would recommend but if you really really enjoy that lifestyle then then go for it what do I think of towers um I think Towers is quite ugly really but you know it’s a decent place to stay the people in Towers seem to be very very proud of towers I don’t know why and I don’t know how because it’s as I said it’s pretty ugly the upside of towers is that is very close to to The Design Center so if you’re studying like economics or design not engineering sort of stuff and it’s pretty good and it’s also very close to the power based gym and the rugby pitches and I believe Towers is the best tool if not one of the best tools for rugby so if you’re someone who’s into rugby looking to play uh rugby at Uni or play rugby for your Halls then probably go to Towers if if you’re looking for that team can a noner student buy meals in cater hols yes they can if as long as you have your student ID which you should do cuz you kind of need it to get back into your room then you can just show that to them and they’ll make you pay I’m not sure how much you have to pay but you can pay and then you can buy uh eat your eat your meal wash at University you can also um let’s say if you’re in Royce Hall and you want to eat in in in Towers or uh Elvin Richards on another day then you can go there and also pay or you show your ID card and you’re still fine I think you might have to pay if you’re going to a different Hall but that not not be true either way you if you’re eating one hole it doesn’t mean you have to only eat in that hole you can eat elsewhere as well can you play Main stream Sports without playing competitively yes you can there is a section on the lra sport app make sure you download the lra sport app especially if you’re looking to go to the gym then that’s where you have to book stuff and also that’s where you can buy the memberships on the ler sport app there is my lifestyle and that’s where you can get involved with sports that are that are mainstream but you’re not playing competitively so there’s stuff like five side football tournaments there’s like tennis and badminton and ping pong you can just play it for fun there’s it is for people who maybe haven’t got into team team or maybe you’re just looking to have a good a good healthy lifestyle but not do anything competitively it is for those sort of people so do not worry about that I know lra can be a little bit frustrating the fact that you want to play sport but the only way you play sport is by playing at a higher level that’s not always the case my lifestyle does back you up with that fun non-competitive Sport Life does the University offer Sports in relation to Fitness and flexibility such as CrossFit or weightlifting yes it does first of all there is a weightlifting team in ler University so if you’re looking to really pursue that competitively and looking to pursue it uh seriously then then I would go and trial out there then also in the powerbase gym and in the hollywell gym there are there are personal trainers which you can book in with there are classes that you can book in with to develop these areas of fitness and flexibility and and and involve yourselves in in CrossFit classes and and so on can you change accommodation a few weeks into to UNI yes you can let’s say you’ve gone to towers and now you’ve got to Towers you’re like oh I didn’t realize how ugly this building is and now you want to move people in towers are going to hate me and you’re like I want to move from Towers to Roy then you can but you need to get in contact with the accommodation Center and they need to work out if some if there’s a free spot so once you’ve got your key and you and you spent a few weeks in your accommodation the only way you can move it’s through like an exchange process so if there’s somebody Royce like like me for example that wants to move to towers and there’s someone in Towers like you who wants to move to Roy to we can swap so I imagine there’s a short list of people who want to move and then they try to match people up with what best fits their preferences but no it’s a serious issue because you might have um people in the rooms next to you who are into partying and clubbing and they’re being loud and you want to move to maybe a quieter area or you may feel like your area is too quiet and you want to be involved in a more in a more Party Block Party Block you can tell I’m not involved in this scene you can do it it just instead of it being you choose where you want to go it’s more of an exchange process what is the PPE course like well PPE is very Broad and when I first came to University uh I I didn’t know a lot really I knew some economics so the economics courses we were doing I I pretty much had studied most of that already at a level but philosophy I really they didn’t you know they didn’t really cover stoicism much I have to say and and fair enough because there’s a lot more to philosophy than just that um and politics I was basically learning everything as new but luckily as I thought would be the case my interest in the subject only grew and I became more and more and more interested especially studying for the exams at the end of the year my uh I started to really discover my own political views and and I came became more and more interested in not just a subject but the real life version of politics and International politics and and getting more invested in philosophy and and podcasts which you may see more of next year in the Vlogs that I do as I say I’ve really enjoyed it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll enjoy it but if you’re into politics if you’re into philosophy if you’re into economics if you like the debate I I really enjoyed the semar in philosophy where we would have where we would have debates it’s a great subject and it also it’s a good line it’s a good line it sets you up in a pretty good road you know you’re kind of going to go into the politics and economic side philosophy is almost like uh is is to keep you debating to keep you thinking unless you want to become a Phil philosophy Professor you’re most likely to go into a a road of politics and economics whether that be into the banking world or maybe be into the domestic politic World itself so yeah I’ve really enjoyed it as a course it’s very broad very interesting and I would highly recommend it how does Cricket work at the University well in my past I was a Avid cricketer wanted to become professional uh play to a very high level but I didn’t do lre University trials at Cricket last year but from the people I’ve spoken to after doing Halls Cricket they have said that yes it was similar to the football in the sense that not many people were picked there were callbacks there were a lot of people trialing so you get the idea it’s going to be a similar sort of process to get involved in cricket at a university it’s going to be very difficult especially you’re looking at some of the players that have come out L University if you’re in the performance Squad you’re probably tinkering on or on a professional contract at a professional Club but as always if you want to play play cricket uh at University and you’re able to make it into a left University team there is not a better place to be to develop your game that being said if you don’t make it into the teams you can always play horse Cricket but I must warn you that I played horse Cricket last year it was 10 overs and it wasn’t the best standard cricket ever played for me I loved it because it was for the first time in a long time I really enjoyed playing Cricket again but for someone who’s taken it more seriously HS Cricket is probably not the best route so if you can make it into the teams then Cricket at this University is the best place you can be but there are open Cricket Nets as I said like the FIB side football era and the pickup basketball era there are open Cricket Nets where you can go and do some bowling or you can go some mates some Cricket mates that you’ve met and do some batting and bowling together obviously this is tougher in the winter but it’s it’s you know it’s good enough you can keep practicing on your game and and it’s a pretty high standard in those Nets as well even for just a pickup area where everyone anyone could go it’s a pretty good standard is there any academic support provided when you play for the University team yes yes there is that’s the point of playing uh for a University team whilst being able to do your University studies that’s not to say it won’t have an effect on your studies if you’re playing for a University team then you may miss your lectures on a Wednesday although although lectures do finish at 1:00 on a Wednesday to provide for the teams that play in the afternoon if you’ve got an away game in in against New Castle University then you’re obviously going to have to leave before 1:00 for your game and you may miss a few lectures that isn’t to say that you can catch up through the videos online that are posted after after the lectures on learn obviously you’d rather be in the lectures themselves and then watching them online after you you you’re going to naturally be more focused and more invested so yes it may have a very small impact but it the point of playing for University team is that you do most of your studies alongside developing your game as much as possible is life at lfra University boring maybe like maybe for some people it is because as I said earlier it’s not a typical City University there are clubs in the town but they’re not going to be as big and maybe as exciting as someone who’s into the clubbing scene would like so I know and I’ve heard and I don’t know their names but I’ve heard that there are huge huge clubs in Nottingham and in lra we just have a maybe below average size or average size clubs in the town you know you may think walking around L that people are Maybe too too Focus everyone’s everyone’s pretty strict on on what they they they’re doing whether that be academically or or sports that’s not to say there’s still a massive party culture at ler University you have the clubs on campus as well don’t forget that but uh yeah to someone who’s who’s heavily involved in that scene lra may be a bit of a quieter place to them but I imagine for most of you who are watching this video that that might that sounds like good news to you last question how hard was it to get into Rey football so I if you know from my videos I played for Royce football last year I played for Royce bees I didn’t have my best season I also got injured as well so I spent a decent amount of time on the bench but you know it’s just the way it goes sometimes some Seasons aren’t as good as others uh how hard was it to get into the trials so yeah I mean it was probably about 50% that got through the trials for the team so it wasn’t necessarily easy and there was some good players that I know that that didn’t make it and that that was that was just the way it is sadly you know it is possible despite being a good foot blood that you don’t make it for your for your Halls team um and if that is the case then I would recommend that you just play in the five side pitches and play my my lifestyle and play as much as you can to make sure you get there next year I guess the answer is that it’s definitely not as hard as L University itself but it’s still tough you still probably have to be a decent footballer if you played a decent level in the past you should be fine but don’t be too disappointed and too and if you don’t get in um just work again for the next year also some of the players that didn’t get in for us they also did our training sessions with us they still joined in with the training sessions even though they weren’t registered on the team and they couldn’t play they were still allowed to to be with the team every now and then so that’s all the questions I have if you have any more questions about Luni and the upcoming Academic Year then you can put them in the comments below and you can also find my Instagram in the description if you want to DM me a lot of people do that I will reply to all that I can also so this may be a good idea if you’re going to lra by yourself you don’t know anybody else in your friends who are who are going to lra UNI then you know feel free to put yourself in the comments below and try and we can try and create a little lra community in the comment section below and maybe you guys can can meet up when you get when you get to lre University that’s all I hope this video helped out if you’re coming to lre University this year then I wish you the best of luck I’m sure you’ll really enjoy it I’m sure you’ll enjoy the whole experience of University itself especially here at L with all the sport going on if you coming then I’ll probably see you around goodbye
