Hi everyone. I am fairly new to fixing up bikes. I am putting a new Shimano Altus derailleur on one of my bikes.
I know this is a common mistake so I would appreciate the sanity check. Is the chain here supposed to be routed on the inside or the outside of the little tab indicated by the red arrow?

You did it right.
In the wrong position, the chain rubs against the tab. You routed it correctly.

If you’re new to fixing up bikes I’d say you’re off to a great start by getting this one right! Definitely a common mistake and definitely one I think a lot of us more experienced people still accidentally do wrong when in a hurry/just going through the motions. It’s pretty obvious when you’ve got it wrong though, lots of resistance and grinding noises from the chain rubbing that tab!
