So I‘ve noticed a strange clicking sensation when turning the handlebars today while riding. Upon further examination, I found a loose stem, a broken bolt on the front rack, but the clicking stayed. I could track it down to my front hub. When pushing it either side, it clicks noticeable and feelable. It seems to be on the electrical output side. Any insights if the hub bearings are cooked or if I can do anything?

  1. It’s quite possible that the bearings are going bad. It will probably last to the end of your ride though. Unfortunately, fixing the bearings is very involved. There are videos online.

  2. I’d put my money on failing bearing. To my knowledge, there is no preload in SP hubs. New bearings, but that is jobs for a workbench and shop tools. Fingers crossed that it will make it until the end of the trip!
