My buddy just gave me this bike. M800/900? I know it’s a 97’ and it’s all still original I think? 8 speed Shimano Deore LX, p bone, Sunrim Ryno Lite wheels. I’m still in LE and plan to use at events, but they would be far and few, so I’d planned on riding in off time. Should I keep it original or upgrade/mod it? Definitely needs new tires and tubes. Any recommendations for all terrains?

M900 I think, I believe the F series used the headshok fork. I have the same bike in non-police variant and it’s one of my favorites ever to ride. Not terribly practical (no provisions for mounting anything at all), but super light and nimble (by my standards anyway), and an insanely apt climber. I like it for singletrack as well as city riding.
Tire recco depends entirely on what you’re using it for, for my purposes the Rene Herse Humptulips Ridge is bae, but if you’re only using it on trails Maxxis offers a lot of their most popular tires in 26″

I guess it’s more of a preference thing but take the bull horns off. People tend to get caught in them if you go over the handlebars. But very sick little bike my friend.
