  1. YOWTCH! I feel your pain (literally). When I was a kid I rode my bike down a steep hill and went right into a tree. Fractured my right femur in several places and ended up spending about 5 months in a full body cast till it healed.

Holy shit, your eyes don’t have to adjust and that tree blends into the background in addition to completely being hidden by the tree in front of it, plus there is ABSOLUTELY no reason why the tape would be around the left-side tree…

  3. That’s really dangerous track layout honestly. If you go to the left of the tree, it totally funnels you into that trap. There’s basically no time or support to make the turn. I get that you’re supposed to pre-ride and have the lines dialed, but make the wrong split second choice and you’re fuuuuucked.

wait did your femur stop you from going through those trees? ughghhghghhh

That sucks man. I cracked the growth plate in mine when I was younger. Once it heals, make sure you keep up with strength training. Getting lazy will make it hurt

  6. Damn that’s rough, I hope for a speedy recovery. That must have been murder to walk out of that trail 😅

  7. Holy shit man! I’m kinda shocked that the femur was the only injury there. I think me head would have kept going with that rapid of a stop.

Heal up and do what your PT said and you’ll be back out there in no time.

Ugh that’s awful. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Be easy on yourself and try to rest as much as you can over the next couple months of the healing process. I’m sure you’ll be back to shredding in no time!!

Daum. At that speed you’re lucky you didn’t hit your head.

Were they able to provide you and pain management on the hill or at least a traction splint?

I live in a place with lots of mtb trails and I’ve always been resistant and this is exactly why. This is the sport that would actually seriously hurt me. It’s like tree skiing, except more dangerous and more expensive. I could buy several stocklis and still spend less money than on a mountain bike. Looks cool though.

Wish you a full and speedy recovery!

  11. Ughhh the start of that “really hurt” gasping/breathing always makes me cringe. Best of luck in your recovery.

That tree being in the course is of course something most will miss so no big deal, but it’s really setting the margin of error to zero if bad luck is chasing you.

Could have been a lot worse if the chest hit the tree instead of the thigh (think: dissected aorta and death in 30 seconds, like what happens a lot in skiing when people hit trees), or obviously the head.

    Get well soon.

Sorry to hear man, hope it heals well! Those Canyon senders are beautiful bikes, you’ll be back on it in no time

  14. As a proximal femur fracture sufferer. I found myself laughing at this. My brother I hope you are ok. first month of taking a shit was a nightmare.
