It is UAE with the win once again. It’s Visma Lisa Bike in second once again, but not the riders we’ve been used to seeing. Tim Wellen, the 113th rider in history to complete the trilogy of grand tour stage wins with this his first ever Tour to France victory. I mean, that was quite a remarkable I feel like I say this after every single stage of this tour to France, but from start to finish with the chaos, the crashes, the splits, Tim Wellins then taking a little bit of a back seat for a lot of the day until he very much put himself in the driving seat. Adam, yeah, the 15th one day race we’ve had at this year’s tour of France and Tim’s taken it. No, but I joke around each day where there’s a chance of a breakaway or a sprint, it’s ridden like a one day race in this year’s tour to France. It’s unbelievable. I think today was a good example of riders taking an opportunity and Tim Wells being the man that benefited the most, the cleverest man within the race in the front, the man who put himself in the right place at the right time. He did everything pretty much perfectly throughout that race in terms of how you win a race tactically, just down to a tea. And he he did have a good role in where he could say a few things. I’m doing this, I’m doing that. But always with an eye on what he could have done today and that was that win. Win win. I have a lot of time for the radio communication throughout the day from UAE team’s car as well. You’re looking beautiful. He’s looking perfect. That’s the kind of cheerleading I’m here for. Is he looking fabulous? Yes, he is. Donna, that’s code for something. Absolutely fabulous. Darling, it is unusual though, isn’t it, for UAE to take a stage win at the tour to France when Tad is riding and it’s not Tad. Yeah, it is a little bit unusual. But I guess they’ve also seen what Vizma Lisa Bike have been doing with riders going up the road and um Tim covering a move obviously had had the go-ahehead and as as Adam alluded to. What I want to say first before I get into sort of how he did it, I want to say that Tim Wellins won not just with the legs, but he won because he has the highest bike IQ out of everybody who was off the front today because he used everything at his disposal to keep himself as fresh as possible. I’m with UAE. got the yellow jersey. I’m not going to contribute. I’m going to sit at the back. They all ignore it. They keep pushing on. I go back to the car. I’m this. I’m that. I’m I’m whatever it takes. I’m not doing a turn. And as the race reshuffled, when the break basic guy got caught, the race got really hard. New riders come forward. Well, there was Tim’s been up there. He was one of the ones up there at at the front. So, he said, “I’m tired. I’ve been in the front. I’m going to sit on the back.” And they sort of ignore him again until he gets to around almost the identical point. It was 43k from the finish. Yeah. At the Belgian Nationals, it was 41k to go. Kaboom. And then and off he went. And and he’s such a strong time trialist. I was like, “Okay, put down the binoculars. We know the winner.” And to do it in that Belgian National Champs jersey as well. Incredibly special for such a cycling mad country. Before we pick apart anything else from that finale in itself, let’s hear a little bit of reaction from within that team. Here’s Maro Janetti. Maro Janetti, congratulations. What a fantastic victory there from Tim Wellins. He’s been such a a wonderful helper for so many years and now he gets his tour to France stage. How special is this? Yeah, it’s very special because if it’s one rider, he deserve a victory in the to France. It’s is the team balance you know it’s so dedicated to the team dedicated to today always uh at 5 cm from today in training camp in race in moral in everything and today he was in the break without looking to be in he was in the in the in the position to not need to work at the first 50k when it was very hard and the energy safe in the in the first part of the breakaway he give it in the final he was clever like always just in attacking before the long long descent and when he was away behind they start to look each other and he enjoy. So, another fantastic day for the team, but especially for him. If my calculations are correct, he’s the 113th rider to win a stage in the Jirro, the Welter, and now the tour. I mean, this is such an incredible achievement. Yeah, you you know what Tammy suffered so much during the tour for many years and a 34 year old finally get the stage. I think really he deserved this this victory than uh any else in this moment. So, I’m so so happy for him really. How can you celebrate this victory rest day tomorrow which I think all the riders need but now you can really celebrate such a wonderful victory. Yeah, it’s important because uh when a teammate have the opportunity to win a stage is something uh also amazing. No, because we know how much they are dedicated and to have this opportunity uh is some unique and it was a chaotic start with the crash. Uh unfortunately everybody come back without a big consequence and and it’s it was created this this breakaway he enjoyed the moment and they enjoy a nice victory. Just uh one last question on on that crash earlier on because we saw Jonas Vinger came down and we heard on the the team radio with Andre Hoffman saying tell them to to slow down at the front of the bunch and wait. Yeah, of course. No, it was normal because it was uh not not broken the pelaton for wind or for attack but just for a a pure crash in the beginning of the stage. I think it was clear it was important to slow down and to wait until Ving lipo is they come back because again is a situation it was just created by a crash in the beginning of of the stage have no sense to make battle in that moment. Thanks a lot Maro. So a fifth grand tour stage win for Tim Wellins 34 now for UAE team emirates across the grand tours this season alone. If my calculations are correct, um that’s Tim’s 41st win in his career as well. Very good, Robbie. Very good. The second most winning team, if you like, in the grand tours this season is lead uh with 17. Trek and Visma combined only have 26 world wins. Sorry, I say um grand tour. It’s obviously world tour wins. So, a 34th World Tour win for UAE. And they’ve taken a hammer really deny, haven’t they? And delivered another blow to Visma Lisa bike because this is how Vizma like to ride into the yellow jersey with stage wins peppered here and there with different riders. They’ve taken their game plan. Yes. And they did actually perfect uh they did perfect race uh way. They were controlling. They had um everything under control. Tim there straight away from the first breakaway. He was there just controlling the situation from the front. the the rest of the guys they were behind riding in the front on the of the bunch. Um so they did again excellent job. Um and you know and Vizma they uh they are chasing they are all the time chasing them and um they want so hard and then you start to make just little mistakes like uh yeah they they like Victor he have seen when Tim was attacking and uh Victor Ampenar is also very smart rider so for sure he will to go behind but u yeah that’s our just the decision in a split of second and uh it didn’t work out but uh yeah So you know they are just they are not doing any mistakes.
