My father-in-law mentioned he had some old bike frames collecting dust in his barn's hayloft and said I could take whatever looked salvageable. Among the treasure I pulled down was this Marin frame that caught my eye.
Fast forward to when my brother-in-law was visiting my shop. The moment he spotted the Marin, his whole demeanor changed. Turns out he had incredible memories of riding with his dad as a kid and always thought his father's bike was the coolest thing on wheels. He asked if I'd be willing to bring this one back to life so he could create those same memories with his own boys.
How could I say no to that?
After going through various build options and price points, we settled on a mostly parts-bin build with strategic upgrades where they'd matter most. The frame was rough – 25 years of barn life plus some questionable terracotta red primer overspray from an old car project had really done a number on it.
Rather than strip it completely, I cleaned and scuffed the surface with 3M pads, then laid down a clear coat. I actually love how the battle scars show through – where the black paint is scratched, you can see hints of the original green underneath. It tells a story. The build was an absolute blast, and I can't wait to see his face when I hand over the keys (so to speak). Sometimes the best projects aren't about the money – they're about the memories you're helping create.

1992 Marin Palisades Trail is my guess. It could be a team Marin from 1992 as well. Nice looking ride and a great story. What is the sticker on the frame?
