TLDR when I lived in fort Lauderdale I biked nearly every day. Loved it. At 36 I moved to Baltimore to pursue my dream job in the game industry. Baltimore was never as bike friendly as Lauderdale was.

When I turned 50 this year I realized how out of shape I had been. We moved to a new neighborhood that had proper bike lanes. A month ago I got a road bike and a gravel bike.

It certainly is much harder to get back into the swing of things at 50. Recovery is different (for a while)

Week 1 was 3 miles round trip per ride no lore than 2 rides

Second week I got to five miles on a single ride

This week went to 7.9 miles per ride

Fourth week went to 10 miles

Fifth week was 12.1 miles in a ride but today …

I finally got to a point where I wanted to post. This morning we went 17 miles what for us is a pretty decent time. I wanted to post to tell anyone who may read that if you start cycling at 50 it can be rewarding and for me anyway it is as fun as it was as a kid and when I lived in Lauderdale.

I entered a dc bike ride and a Philly bike ride in September and October. Super excited.

Go get it. I’m not far behind at 45. You got a lot of “get” left. 🤟
