[Music] Sometimes the most beautiful parts of a journey aren’t the ones you planned. After rushing through Switzerland, we slowed down. 4 days of wine, villages, pastries, and peaceful road. This was Alsace, and it was everything we didn’t know we needed. After days of riding fast through Switzerland, we finally slowed down. We crossed the border from Basil into France. And while Eurovve 15 continued in a straight line, [Music] we decided to take a more scenic route. This was the start of our detour into the Alsas wine route and we were ready to take our time. The morning began as it should in France with a visit to a beautiful bakery, fresh pastries, warm bread, and that unmistakable smell of butter and coffee. It felt like the perfect way to begin this chapter. [Music] For lunch, we treated ourselves a proper culinary experience. [Music] Salmon and foy gray to start. Tender beef for the main and red wine. [Music] A long slow lunch. No rush, no stress. Just flavor, conversation, and rest. Coffee and sweets to finish. [Music] [Music] Hey [Music] boo. [Music] That evening we camped near the village of Eenheim. Ted set up sund dipping low. We walked to the next restaurant and there we ended our day with something simple, local and perfect. Flam cooker. A thin crispy dough. creme fresh onion bacon shared between us warm from the oven. This wasn’t just a detour. This was the reward for all the long days behind us. And we were just getting started in Alsasa. Every morning I bring her coffee. It’s a small thing, but it feels like love. A moment of peace before we pack up, before the road calls again. Day two in Alcess started gently. Quiet roads winding through vineyards, the hills glowing in the morning sun. Everything was calm. The pace, the landscape, even our breathing felt softer. [Music] [Music] [Music] We stopped in Egishheim, a village so beautiful it felt like a painting. A quick coffee stop turned into a slow walk through narrow cobbled streets that curled around the center like a ribbon. From there we rolled on. More vineyards, more golden light and headed to Kmar for lunch. Sausages, pork, zawa, and a glass of crisp local wine. [Music] I also tried a toasted slice with warm monster cheese, melting into the bread like it belonged there. It was simple and absolutely perfect. [Music] In the afternoon, we cycled toward Torheim, stopping at a small supermarket on the edge of the village. As usual, we bought too much of everything. But that’s what happens when you’re in France and everything looks delicious. Cheeses, tomatoes, pastries, and also the taste of everything we love. Some days start fast. Ours started with 500 m. Then a firm request from my wife. Let’s stop at that big. And honestly, who was I to argue? We sat down with good coffee, warm pastries, and no rush. It felt like the right way to begin day 10. From Turkheim, we rode north toward Ingashim. [Music] then made a short detour to Kazersburg, one of those villages that looks like it was made for postcards. [Music] There we had second breakfast because well, why not? We were in Alsas and second breakfast just made sense. The route continued through vines and fields, passing crucifixes by the roadside, statues of Christ, one after another, watching over the land. These are part of an old Alsatian tradition, reminders of protection and faith for those who travel by foot or bike. [Music] In Rio V, we stopped for a late lunch and discovered something new. Als Muscat wine. We had never heard of it before, but it was floral, dry, and so refreshing in the summer heat. I had the V ribeye. My wife ordered the local sauerkraut, a proper Alsatian dish. Both were perfect. [Music] Then came the surprise. White wine sorbet. Cold, sweet, slightly tart. It felt like summer in a spoon. [Music] After a long relaxed lunch, we slowly made our way north to a small campsite in San Marta. It was probably our most simple setup yet. No luxury, no view, no restaurant, but it was peaceful. And after a day full of flavor, beauty, and new discoveries, it was all we needed. [Music] By now, our mornings had found their rhythm. Coffee, a slow start, a soft moment together before another day of riding. But this morning came with something extra. A gingerbread store. And not just any store. It was huge. Room after room of sweets, cookies, spices. The smell alone made us feel like kids again. Gingerbread or pandis in French has deep roots here in Alsace brought centuries ago through trade with the east. [Music] We had spent just one night in a hotel few day ago in Lenberg and we were both excited. Today would be our final ride through Alsas and we were heading for another hotel in Strasburg. The feeling of rest waiting ahead made the ride feel even lighter. The road was kind to us. Rolling through vineyards past wide fields of sunflowers. Their golden faces turned toward the sun. [Music] [Music] Somewhere along the way, we stopped to taste more of the sweets we’d picked up. And then we tried something unexpected. Gingerbread and blue cheese. A strange idea maybe, but absolutely delicious. Sweet and sharp, soft and spiced. You must try it someday. [Music] When we arrived in Strasburg, we rolled straight to our hotel. Bikes safely parked in a special bike storage. [Music] A sign above it dedicated to cycling heroes. That made us smile. [Music] And that first cold beer just outside the cathedral made us sigh with happiness. We stayed two nights in Strasborg. No cycling, just wandering, eating, resting, and falling in love with the city and with the feeling of having come this far. Als had given us everything we hoped for. And now the rind was calling. Als gave us soft mornings, golden vineyards, unexpected flavors, and quiet moments we’ll never forget. From second breakfasts to blue cheese and gingerbread to our final beer in Strasborg, it reminded us to slow down and enjoy the small things. Now it’s time to return to the rine and continue our journey to Amsterdam. [Music]
