Hello, I was just wondering why people I used to ride with gave me so much shit about it? "That's too much bike for a beginner" "oh that frame is garbage" are just a few comments I can remember from the top of my head, but there was a loooot of shit talking. I don't ride with these people anymore but the way they talked and the things the said kinda stuck with me and even made me not want to go out and ride anymore. There aren't many BMX riders in my area and these group was the only collective of people I could go out and ride with, we kinda had a disagreement over some things and that's why I stopped meeting with them completely.

Truly, what am I doing wrong?

  1. It’s freestyle bmx, you do you, and ride how or what you want, there’s no right or wrong answer.
Doesn’t matter if it’s bmx, skateboarding or whatever, a mob mentality and shit talking can exist for no other reason than just because.

Only Posers care about what others are riding, same in the skateboarding world too. I’ve had to deal with them in both sports and just pay them no attention or they’ll never stop.
You do you… that’s also why I choose to ride by myself… and why I choose to skate and BMX… it’s a great thing to do by yourself. I get more shit from people within the community than outside. So fuck em.

Sounds like you were hanging around a bunch of losers.. I think yer bikes sick.. always be yourself and don’t change for no one..!

  4. i personally see nothing wrong with it and think it looks pretty sick! only thing i’d change is adding a break but that’s because i’m a wimp 😆 i don’t get people though that say shit just to get others down, worrying too much about others. for me it’s been the complete opposite i’ve got a mafia bikes kush 2 and everyone on reddit says they are really shit (could defo be right! 😆) but at my local everyone thinks it’s like a top tier bike, even with my bent cranks! 😆

They were likely jealous by the comments like “that’s too much bike for a beginner” or trash talking your frame. If they have zero constructive criticism and only put you and your equipment down then it 100% ISN’T YOU!!! These types of riders deserve the cold shoulder and you made the right decision to stop associating with them. Don’t let their insecurities or nasty attitude towards riding effect you. Just do you, enjoy your rides and be happy in spite of these types of people.

Back when I was entering high school I became obsessed with BMX. This was 20 years ago now. There was a crew of guys that were already into it. They gave me relentless shit, called me a poser, bullied and threatened me. They had problems with me buying bike parts they thought were too good, clothes ect. Even then I rode daily. Looking back I can’t believe I persevered and stuck with it. BMX is such a cool sport, gatekeeping assholes actively kill their own hobby by pushing newcomers out.

  7. It doesn’t matter what people say about your bike/BMX. It’s all about having fun — doing airs, flat tricks, cruising, etc. If you’re not into all the lifestyle talk, maybe you’ll find new people at a pump track or a spot where people actually ride instead of shit talking. 😄

  8. Probably snobs that didn’t care for kink?🤷‍♂️ Ive had many frames from building from frame out to buying completes and my favorite by far was my ’13 kink whip. I was amazed how nice it rode compared even to later $5-600 frames. I wouldn’t worry about it. If you like it and it’s comfortable…ride that thing!!!! Anyone worried about what your riding should not be on your radar. Do you and have fun!!!

Man, I’m road biker and this attitude is in every sport. Exactly the reason why I always ride alone. Too many posers out there. There are only two things that important: your health and actual riding. Sod the rest.

Shit talking is BMX, either join in or slap an ear bud in and ride on.

    ETA- your bike is fine.

Im curious where you live? If your anywhere close to phoenix there’s a ton of places to ride so fuck those shit bags. I ride all sorts of bikes but Kink is def one of my fav brands to ride.

    Those people were nerds
Pedal on and keep spreading the stoke

There’s no such thing as “too much bike for a beginner”. Why would someone choose to have a shitty bike when they can have a good one that’s stronger and better beginner or not? So either they were jealous, or they’re certified haters, or just plain out stupid. They’re just talking shit because they think they’re superior to you, and they’re not worth riding with. Go get better than them then they’ll be really mad. People I rode with when I was younger were the same way, now none of them even own a bike. Don’t worry about them just ride your bike

Everything’s wrong with it, I’ll give you $100 to save you the embarrassment of riding it & you can use that money to buy a Mafia one.
