Tappa tedesca del circuito mondiale gravel: 120 km e 1700 metri di dislivello su un tracciato veloce, scorrevole e poco tecnico. Una gara che, sulla carta, sembrava perfetta per spingere a tutta dall’inizio alla fine. Peccato che non tutto sia andato come previsto. here we are new video new adventure, Obviously we are in the cellar where all our journeys start. This weekend we are headed to Aachen where we will do a gravel race of the UCI Gravel World Series. I will meet up with Simone Pederiva, who is my teammate . It will be just the two of us this weekend racing and we will fly from Venice airport, so, obviously I’m late, I have a flight in about 4 hours so let’s go. Simo Pederiva, what a haircut you gave yourself god. Damages immediately, crazy stuff, new wheels bought from the Chinese market this morning. Come on perfect Let’s go As soon as we landed in Düsseldorf, the first thing we noticed was “pizza snack”. Makes me sick. we’re not there yet., Disgusted. Crazy! TOP! We are late as always, Ready, steady, go, let’s enter the grid. Let’s just hope we don’t get wet A few moments later Here we are After getting wet for a good 15 minutes on the grid, we set off for the UCI 3Rides in Aachen, and it was quite humid, it was almost hard to breathe because the sun came out right after, so it was quite hot. In addition, after all the rain it had just rained, it was quite humid, and so obviously mass start as always, strangely a downhill start. Usually the starts are uphill but here we are special and so a downhill start at full tilt, and we were a good group. Our category was about 600 starters, so we had to get to the front of the group straight away, because otherwise we would get stuck in the curves etc. And the way they race here in the Nordic countries always leaves me a bit astonished, let’s say, because they really go at full tilt, they go on fire the whole time, out of every corner 1200 W at full blast, and they never let go of the accelerator, always at full blast, that is, they start at full blast from the first minute and they get to the end at full blast, so really a very different way of racing compared to ours where you still manage it much more. To be clear, in the first 45 minutes I obtained a normalized power of 340 W and an average of 175 heartbeats, so full gas practically all the time, at an average of 37 kph, but it ‘s ok, it’s very training, for legs and pace, so it’s good to change by doing these types of races at a very different pace compared to what we’re usually used to. The route in my opinion was super nice, because it was very smooth, nice wide roads, there was little technical so it was let’s say real gravel and there were only a few roots in some places etc. but it was very very smooth, you could reach really high speeds, and I also found it fun, and this doesn’t mean it was trivial, in the sense that you still had to know how to ride the bike quite well, because at the bends people continued to crash out and so you still had to know how to handle the bike. Unfortunately my race didn’t last long because at about the 50th minute while I was following a group downhill I didn’t see a rock and I hit it full on, and strangely I didn’t puncture but I actually destroyed the rim, so the tire wasn’t on the rim’s bead anymore, air was coming out and so I had to retire because there was just no way to continue.
