It is weird what things can go wrong. I am gonna start touring France next week and my touring bike decided to tell me in ratzer subtle ways it needs a few parts replaced:

  1. both racks the original ones were made out of aluminium, they looked nice but could handle the stress amd weight for longer tours —-> stainless steel Tubus front and rear racks

  2. tires – Schwalbe G Allround 35-623. Really liked them the years before, wanted to replace them with Challenger Gravel Grinder 38-622 but anything beyond 35mm just doesn't fit with this bike and its Fenders. So it got two brand new Schwalbe G Allround 35-622 in Bronze.

  3. rear light did not work either for whatever reason, replaced the old cables and got a new rear light as well.

  4. new bottom bracket, the original one had pitting which I really hate, got a new Token 122,5mm

  5. chainrings were dead, replaced the original BioPace with new Stronghlights

  6. while I was at it, polished rims and hibs, replaced the freehub with a Hyperglide one (the original one was still UniGlide and the cassette had two broken teeth) and put a 7speed cassette on it (instead of the original 6speed cassette)

  7. replaced the derailleurs as well, as I prefer the black finish instead of the aluminium head plate

It is ready to head to France

  1. That’s only the beginning of the beginning. Next you need to test, pack, plan and most like box, fly and reassemble. Then you can begin.

That’s a good-looking bike. I have the same one that I picked up recently in near original condition. There are very few of these out in the wild. Enjoy the ride.
