This driving test route is loaded with tricky roundabouts, challenging national speed limit roads, and some seriously steep hills. Luckily, I’ve brought along local driving instructor Joshua to help me navigate this brutal test.

Portsmouth is a trap why is Portsmouth so hard just going to watch yourself what the hell is wrong with this place Portsmouth driving test center has loads of Hills crazy roundabouts and National speed limit roads so I’m not even going to attempt this one by myself Joshua’s on hand an actual driving instructor from this area and can you help me and guide me through this yeah I certainly will do hold my hand and get me to the end please all right got a tricky route for you today as well oh not just the area you picked the hardest route yeah why not let’s do it if anyone can do it I can’t let’s set off and let’s see what Portsmouth has to offer you’re you’re going to love it sorry am I interrupting no go the toilets aren’t working the toilets are good no the toilets are normally good but they’re not working at oh no they’re not working oh tell me the about the rest of the facilities just a normal waiting room area yeah there’s some uh coffee ma uh uh Kettle in there so you can have a c tea coffee c a tea grab some snacks what I will do what I do is I rate the facilities the area and the difficulty so what would you rate the facilities at Portsmouth probably around a six or seven a six okay not great it’s if the toilets aren’t working then it’s got to get a low score really yeah you I hate a test center with no toilet it’s just not acceptable is it I mean they’re normally working they just been out for a couple of weeks just when I get here sorry Portsmouth just the wrong time to have no to straight away we’re out onto quite a busy really busy section of Road pretty fast Road it’s quite narrow for 40 m hour as well how fast would you really go through this well if there’s I mean generally you’d be want to be doing 40 along here we’ve got a bicycle really yeah 40 down here with the twisty turny narrow yeah it looks feels narrow because there’s no curbs but actually it’s a fairly fast bit of Road it is you would do 4 to Long here and they would expect you to be doing 4 to if there’s nothing in front of you okay wow wow so you got to be quite confident to pass that Portsmouth for sure interesting what are the examiners like very good absolutely really good very professional very friendly very helpful oh I love that biger Portsmith examiners now this is the problem for a lot of people with cyclist yeah that look over his shoulder didn’t he as well there’s a car oncoming I could have made it if I really boot it in sport mode but I’m not going to do that it’s a driving test we are on a driving test we are on a driving test so mirror check give them a meter and a half half of space minimum and then we’ll check on him before we move back in make sure I can see him in that mirror so we don’t cut in front of him and give him a surprise oh look at that he’s about to come past me no let’s keep him behind do people fail for not giving cyclist enough space they quite often so on this stretch of road this particular bit they quite often fail because they’re afraid to use the bit in between the ballards here oh really they go too close to the Cy and or they stay behind interesting interesting well other things do I need to know if I’m driving in Portsmouth let’s give everybody the the top highlight tips so I would say you really just need to know the area yeah you got to be familiar with the area there’s nothing that’s going to like scarily you know it’s a out you know it’s it’s not in the city yeah yeah all right it goes into faam town porchester um bulls grob kosam and out to bed Hampton and through crook so it’s not in the city yeah which makes it a little bit easy yeah yeah daytime turn right jeez this road is hazardous even you nearly swore when that truck was coming big money here right now we’re going to take that next road on the right it’s a little bit difficult to see see where the tree line is Oh yeah yeah I’m watching it count down on the satinav that’s a good tip actually cuz the satinav counts you down to the junction 100 yard mirror signal positioning next to the line speed into second gear clutch up before a turn and then go Center Line of the road and then steer what do I need to pay attention for there that was a national speed limit that okay all right however not really a 60 M hour I wouldn’t want to go 60 around this blind Corner woo Portsmith is challenging okay so realistically I’m doing 30 on this road how fast do you get your students to go back okay no that’s a bend in the road yeah how fast would you about 30 okay fine so I was doing good there if I make mistakes though as well y left then bear left cuz I’ve never been here before okay so this is a mistake on the TomTom so it’s going to be it’s a turn left and then it’s a bear left oh w wow so I probably will make mistakes on this route I’m here for it Joshua is going to spot them and also you can spot them as well left then they’re left put them in the comments and we’ll debate them when I publish this see there U I’m going to just roll into what first gear because it looked like quite an open Junction if I could have seen it was clear I would have just keep kept going without stopping there no o withd strict are coming up oh no is that for the little Track Road okay oh this is this is wild if I if we weren’t doing this you be going faster and the car was in sports mode this would be so much fun at the speed limit oh at 60 though oh my God this National speed limit responsibly now on this route they will tell you generally that there’s two roads very close together you’re taking the second one ah the examiners are helpful at that love that some of them are yeah some more than others because there’s too close together I’m just going to hold back on my signal signal then cross the roundabout and take the second exit I guess the thing to watch out for there would be to not break too sharply slow down gradually in case there’s a car behind you cuz you’re not signaling to let them know that you’re going to be turning now here the examiners quite often will tell y cross the roundabout and take the second exit that you could use both lanes oh interesting I’d pref prefer this left one though right okay is that a trick round it’s not a trick optically it looks like the left lane goes down look at the arrows below us yeah wow okay so so the mistake a lot of people make is they get into that right hand lane and then they go across to the left and oh right okay do you know what I’ve heard about Portsmouth in lots of comments on other videos people have warned me about Portsmouth and said it’s extremely hazardous and tricky and they were right so so so don’t listen to The Examiner stay in the left hand lane left is best yeah so we’re going to exit here now you’re going to follow ahead the road marking for gospel yeah that was a bit of a late break there wasn’t it yeah quite late damn you’re going to give me a m possibly yeah yeah I think I think I deserve it for that the reason I’ve got Joshua here is because he’s not just a driving instructor in Portsmouth random bod that I found online you actually have a website tell me about it so I got the uh driving test uh roots. website so I uh sell driving test routs online okay which is which if you’re following this series you’ve heard about already it’s how I’m getting my dri driving to streets and there actually 34 of a mile keep right making my life so much easier yeah obviously we came off that round about you stayed to the left you moved over safely so there’s no problem there yeah I did say we’re going to follow the road marking for gospel yeah yeah it was was in the middle I think I said it right and I never gone the wrong way no no you’re good you wanted to be in the middle okay okay s have taken us this way but you wanted me to go left no no I want you to go ahead okay so I’ve got that right 40 perfect slow Joshua you’re distracting me okay I’m going to help you out a little bit here we’re going to follow the um the the signs really for Town Center I know you’re on the sa got it town center and I’m going to just give you a little heads up you want to be in the right hand lane what I want as well after y keep right right on the roundabout and take the fourth exit okay cool I want your Trade Secrets where do I get where do you get these test rots from I’m tell you can get them from the website yeah keep right then go right on the roundabout and take the fourth exit fourth exit bloody eyes is going to be tricky now look at the sign there so isn’t really the fourth exit because it’s Tom thir exit takeit Town Center let me look on the town sensor okay now you got to watch yourself here I’m not going to tell you everything why is the for so hard just got to watch yourself what the hell is wrong with this place uh if I’d have come here using Josh was test routs and not practiced here first which I never do I would have definitely got this wrong I yeah oh that’s so hard I know I told you damn I did warn you pay attention jeez yeah okay I’m still turning right so I need that signal on oh I’m picking up mine is Left Right and Center here Portsmith is tricky I’m looking for Town Center on the floor that’s here I’m going to a check and Signal there wow how long does it normally take people to learn to drive here no going right on the r must take bloody ages the second exit 5 years to be able to pass a test in Portsmouth you’re going to pick up another for here why cuz you’re in the lane that goes to the car par so you’re going to go all the way around that roundabout all the way around what ah you just failed wait what that said but I was turning right on the round when you watch the video back it says car park underneath so you have to use the left lane to turn right left it wasn’t right it was ahead oh it looked like after 12:00 to me well yeah don’t use the 12:00 rule second exit ahe Portsmouth is a trap wait that’s not I turn in the road so yeah listen if you’re learning in Portsmith then you need to find J and he needs to show you all this stuff don’t do I’ll tell you your viewers are going to your viewers are going to watch this and they have a good giggle to themselves yeah cuz it’s so so hard the difficulty score for this test center is going to be so low this is a L tough route is it is it yeah they’re not all this bad they’re not all this bad but this is a tough one I but this is a route yeah yeah this is a route you might get this and you can practice this if you go on the website and download it I’m going to give you some help in a minute are you no let me out no cuz it could be dangerous this could be dangerous right so so so look where these cars are turning how these cars are turning in yeah mirror signal and turning into a oneway street oh interesting okay so we’re going to use the what you’re going go into no you’re going to go into the right hand lane cuz they’ve got to go left the only thing that’s can come through is a bus or bicycle interesting so I don’t need to wait for oncoming Vehicles no that is Mega interesting let’s move to the left hence why I said I was going to just be careful yeah okay yeah what was the dangerous thing that I could have done back there well you could have just turned in yeah and gone straight into the left hand side oh when someone else is cut by this area is is a trap what’s the do you know the passway in Portsmouth after running about 48 49% take the right 49% yeah I that’s surprising that’s very that’s much higher than I thought it would be I’m going to say there’s an interesting bit coming up here okay all right so it’ be interesting for your viewers to to to to watch this and think for themselves how how you were going to deal with it and how they read the situation interesting yeah okay okay because lots of people make a mistake here I’m not expecting you to but who knows yeah okay I’m probably going to I can get through that before the car gets here but watch out for that because okay see turning right we need to get the priority correct thank you turning right at the end oh is this one way no but does it look one way turn right then it looks one way so they go there you can see that yeah because there’s an island and people are coming in that way that would be a big Hazard that is a a a steering whe real grab moment there yeah the examiner probably sit there ready the hand moves to the knee ready to go and take the first exit roundabout first exit so I’m going to signal on approach cross the roundabout and take the first exit nothing coming carry on 40 m hour and we’re going second exit on this one there’s no right turn right exit 100 Ys cross the roundabout and take the second exit but they both go straight so I’m going to use the left cross the round about and take the second exit you always want to preferably be in the left lane on a roundabout because then you exit on the left lane and don’t get undertaken on whatever next Road you’re on uh what are we doing next straight on so many roundabouts no you’re going to go third exit right on this one you need to be in that lane yeah this looks like straight damn it it is straight but it’s the third exit oh dear can you not do this from the left lane it looks like you should be able to really so when you get down there the left lane only goes um first and second is there anything specific that you tell your students before they go to their test to do to combat nerves do you have the banana or thec remedy the um bananas yeah be careful be careful don’t be to don’t believe in bananas yeah no bananas are yeah bananas are great full of potassium so calm you down um stay calm give yourself lots of distance yeah don’t don’t be in a rush um you know lot lots of people the way I teach them you know I really educate them on you know not worrying about their maneuver yeah it’s not about the maneuver it’s about the observations Because by the time we get to test we know that they can park at least on the second attempt yeah yeah a lot of people worry about Maneuvers yeah yeah yeah um so to give them that confidence that they can come out as long as they doing good observations checking around making sure it’s safe they can just take the exit correction on it it’s not going to be the end of the world it’s not a great place to take a driving test let’s give it some scores I mean pth is a lovely area so the area is going to get a high score let’s give Port yard turn left then at the end of the turn right area score of I love it it’s got loads of greenery end of the road turn right it’s got loads of calming Vibes and influence oh it’s one way here oh see the difficulty over here is through the roof yeah but you’ve just driven it one time yeah so don’t come here from London so I mean I tend to only do Portsmouth yeah so we’re scoring Portsmouth if I think about the test centers nearby chich and Leon Solen they’re all very much of a similar difficulty I believe really yeah yeah um so in terms of difficulty if you know the area from the area I’d say maybe it’s what the hell is this just a left turn oh cuz it’s a cycle puff got it it’s a five or six in terms of difficulty I don’t think it’s the overly difficulty to know the area if you don’t know the area maybe it’s a a nine or a 10 yeah at the end of the road turn right 10 the way I’ve done it cuz I’m trying to find the perfect 10 driving test center so it’s got to be 10 per facilities 10 easy difficulty 10 area so 10 is the 10 is easy 10 is easy so I’m going to give Portsmith a difficulty score of four is that fair yeah yeah yeah that’s fair yeah definitely it’s really tricky but it’s not impossible it’s not like there’s I don’t know handbrake turns on this on on the route and there be never handbreak T but you know what I mean yeah but what about the area 200 y uh the area I’ll give it a 10 biased biased very biased it’s a really nice area see it’s a lovely view from the test center see the see the Sea The Test Center is nice it’s massive the area’s got some tricky stuff but that’s difficulty it’s a really nice atmosphere it’s a really nice just for a drive it’s a really nice place to come it’s not too busy I know we got stuck in traffic but that’s not all the time I’m going to give the area a fair seven yeah I I would come back but I’ve been to nicer places we didn’t drive through any woods oh right yeah driving through the woods is extremely easy and really nice and overall for Portsmouth driving test center because the difficulty is really low the facilities are quite low and know the area is lovely probably going to say a seven seven even though the facilities were low and the difficulties low the facilities are out of use at the moment it’s not normally yeah okay so I’d say on a normal situation I’d say a seven okay I’d say a six meet me meet in meet me in the middle let’s go six and a half 6.5 brilliant um awesome
