A brand new bike is being sold at a reputable shop for 50% off the retail price, having only been released this year (2025). Listed at ¥140,800 (950USD) on the manufacturer's website, I have found two bike shops selling for ¥75,000 (500USD). Is there something inherintely wrong with the bike based off the spec sheets?

Any help is much appreciated.

Muddyfox isn’t the most desirable brand, it’s usually slapped on department store bikes these days. Nobody’s paying 1000 for it when there’s better options, but at 500 I wouldn’t rule it out. Consider it something like an Ozark Trail G1, with some better components and professionally assembled (thus avoiding most of the issues with those sorts of bikes).

In the UK we’ve had some gravel bike options around that sort of price point for a while, and there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with them. If anything the super wide tyres of a gravel bike make it harder to notice things like a less refined frame design, as they just cushion all the bumps anyway. Just cheap, fun bikes that are great to thrash around.
