Labour MP, Fabian Hamilton, explains the government’s drive to build more products in the UK and admires how Estarli is leading the British e-bike charge from their Hertfordshire factory.

There is a drive to try and manufacture more and more products and design more and more products here in the UK. Things that people use all the time. And I’m not a chauvinist. I’m a realist. I recognize that China’s done the world a lot of favors. Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, a lot of places where labor’s a lot cheaper and the manufacturing processes are just as good. But it would be nice to onshore things rather than offshore things. And I think what Starley’s done designing products here in the UK, assembling and sourcing as much as they can from the UK, I think this is absolutely brilliant. It provides jobs, it provides expertise and knowhow. So the more we can do locally, the more we can do in our own country, the more we can have our supply chains here, the better. But that’s not to say that buying from foreign countries is a bad thing. I don’t think it is. But I think we should do it in a more rational and sustainable way.
