Saw this nice vintage Litespeed for sale at $1800 locally. Seller state it is his late father’s bike. Guess it is probably 18 year old as I read Campagnolo introduce 11 speed in 2008.

It seem to be fitted with nice items from that era, with full carbon saddle, carbon integrated stem handlebar. And that is why I am looking at it. But price seem high for 18 year old bike.

What will be a reasonable price for this?

Assuming no crashes/accidents (nice condition in photos), will the carbon parts remain durable?

As a 220 pound leisure pretty slow cyclist who usually cycle on pretty decent roads, will these wheels with little spokes be strong enough to accommodate me?

  1. As a heavier rider, it may not be a good idea to shop for 15+ year old secondhand ultralight carbon parts.

I know titanium has the reputation of lasting “forever”, but you would be much better served by spending your budget on something more modern. You need more than 16 spokes for starters. These old bikes were so flexy. I know they are classics, but they were designed for 150lb riders. The campy stuff is fine, but that is a small part of the overall bike. What about that fork? Whatever ride quality you might get from a ti frame you will lose by having that silly seatpost. I can’t see what saddle that is, but the rails look like fake carbon. I could be wrong, I can’t see the whole thing.

I would give a strong no to this one. It is too expensive, and would need to much work to make it safe to ride for you. You would be into it for $3000 for a 17 year old bike. For $1800 you can get an incredible modern used bike. This pricing is totally out of touch.
