He’s pedaling away. He’s fighting that bike. He’s looking like only he can. But is there enough in the tank? Again, it goes down. 17 seconds. One final bit of a drink and surely back to work. Pedalling away. The time though is evaporating into this French hot summer. Little tough uphill section there. The momentum of the pelon. More fresh riders coming to the front now for Ant Mare and Binium Gome. The gap down to 13 seconds. lost nearly half of what he had 400 meters ago. They’ll be able to see him at this point when they straighten up just on 3 km to go and mare for Bini Gome. They worked so hard yesterday, got absolutely nothing out of the day. They haven’t chased today. They’ve waited to the last possible moment and try to bring Binnie to the win. And as a reminder, already in the safety sprint zone today was 5ks long, but amid all the excitement, we’ve been following this chase. Will they catch him? Can they catch him? It’s looking good for those behind at the minute cuz it’s only 10 seconds. It’s up the hill here and Fool’s giving everything. But even for cycling Superman, I think the kryptonite’s not far away. No, the problem is the open sections. They are going to be the real killer for match up and the pool here because the pelon will just, you know, charge into those and the riders are riding on the front. You know, they can take this little couple of hund meters as if the finish there. They’re not thinking about 2.5 to go. And we can see Majan Pool is just slowly being pulled in. And we can see the pace here. New team starting to appear as well. Yeah, what a ride, but just a little bit too short. Speed at 50 km per hour from the start to the finish today. And we’re inside 2.3ks to go. It’s 7 seconds. Kissa there trying to set up Brian Kar. A couple of other teams come to the front and marsh with Pinam Germay. It’s Penuet and Kabala behind and they’ve got him. The carrots dangling right in front now. They still have to finish the catch, but it’s very much advantage Pelatin with 2ks to go. Robbie, it is they’re chewing up the road behind. And what’s really difficult for Matthew to pull is these one out efforts from fresh riders. Hadn’t done a turn all day yet. They come and do one really big emptying turn on the front and they take a handful of seconds off him again. 6 seconds 1.8. He would have need to be under the kilometer to go with 10 seconds up his sleeve to have a a real fighting chance, but fight he will do nonetheless. And look at how he takes that quarter perfectly even with fatigue all around the legs screaming at him. It’s like a cycl cross for 3 and 1/2 hours this. Never mind the usual 50 minutes to an hour. He’s still going full gas. It’s still 7 seconds. And one by one, the riders peel off. More reinforcements coming up on the right hand side. on the left. There’s still some semblance of a train for Gama. It’s still 7 seconds. A late attack from EF as well because their sprinter is not there. And what’s going to happen here? It’s still Fool, but there’s chaos behind at the moment. They have him in sight. But do they? Can they catch him? This might be the bit of road as they go 1 km to go. It’s still Fool out. And they’re trying. They’re trying. They can’t quite get him yet, but it’s 900 m now. Thool pedaling away there. 900 m to go. It’s agonizing, but he’s going to be caught. He’s going to be caught. Macho Fool trying to rip up the rule book today. Tried to rewrite the how-to, but they have him with 740 m to the line. The adventure’s over and now it’s time for a sprint. IP moving up through the center. Men following the wheels on the right hand side. Danny from Popp’s there as well. Merc is further back in the blue and white. They go left, they go right. They avoid the elbows. The G green giants there again. Milan on the left hand side following in. It’s from Pompa who starts to lead out on the left. Look at this on the right though. That was Stewart. It’s Akaman following. He’s perfectly placed. We’re a few hundred meters from the line. There goes Midian. Medier on the right hand side. But again, it’s Milan in front. It’s Mir gaining. Media is there. He might have the beat to get him. They go to the line and Tim Mlier at the double. Wow. Wow. Wow. What a stage at the tour to France. Matcha Fool on that solo adventure. Sensational. Audacious, many would say nonsensical, but he lasted until 700 m to go. And in the end, the king of all the chaos once more was the European champion Tim Merid who takes his second victory of this gloriously entertaining tour to France. When it’s chaotic, when it’s messy, Tim Merid comes into his own. He can read it like no other. And he went long range. Milan went early enough as well, but Merid compact, arrow, controlled, powerful, and came up and over the top of the green jersey.

Merlier might not be the most powerful sprinter, but he consistently shows how intelligent he is amidst the chaos.
He's the best sprinter at the moment in my book.
He's the best sprinter at the moment in my book.
Where was wout?
I don't understand the commentary: 13 seconds at 3km.. of course they will catch him.
First
Jammer MvdP
I felt devastated for MVDP; work so bloody much and get caught in the last K. 😢
I efin HATE it so much when they catch the breakaway so close to the finish line and then someone who in comparison hasn't done anything all day makes an effort for a couple of seconds and takes all the glory
I do agree that sprint stages on weekends (when people have more time to watch) is a bit of a waste of time – unless they suit spectators actually at the finish to be fair
As Always outstanding commentary 👌 👏
Heroic effort by MvdP, but we`ve seen this so many times, a day-long breakaway being caught inside the last kilometer. Still, there are exceptions like Asgreen on stage 18 in 2023.
These riders are so skilled. They know exactly how fast the need to go to catch the break-away rider. I mean, how many times have we seen the main pack catch the break-away group or rider inside 1km from the finish line? I don't know how they time it so well.
I have never rooted so hard for someone in the breakaway. Ever. Totally gutted for Mathiueu, that would have been the feat of the century.
Merlier well done 👍🏾
