  1. Chain is fine.

    That small-small is rideable. Always size to protect big-big and to enable good downshifting (a safe-length chain can be too tight to shift well if the last shift is a big jump, and your last shift is a VERY big jump, so using a minimum-length chain will likely hurt shifting).

  2. As long as you have some tension on the chain in the smallest sprocket, you’re usually OK. What does it look like when it goes into the biggest sprocket? Again as long as the derailer is putting some tension on the chain at that point also you’re good.
