welcome to short highlights of the first ever edition of the Copenhagen Sprint a race which has come about as a direct legacy of the Tour to France Grand Depart 3 years ago 2022 big names expected to perform and amongst them probably at the highest Maz Pedison wearing the number one on his back the dream ending to the first ever Copenhagen sprint would be Miles Pedan of course taking the win but he’d have to tussle with Phil Bow House Olaf Koy Dylan Kronovan and others across the full length of the 235 km really pretty flat riding northward up through Zealand starting in Roshkilda and riding all the way northward taking in that upper loop up there which gave them the extra distance over yesterday’s women’s world tour race and then coming southward back towards the capital city starting in the ancient capital of Froskilda and finishing in Kurinhav for five 10 km laps 50k all in the city center across criterium finish and a long 180k to get there glorious racing conditions lovely and sunny and just light winds as well this was the makings of the day’s five rider breakaway two riders from the Danish national team in there in Mars Anderson the taller of the two Danes in the national team kit and Joshua Goodnitz chasing behind being led by a combination of Vismalisa bike for Olaf Koi and also Jacob Alula for Dylan Krunovan first of the intermediate sprints was in Frederickson and it was Joshua Goodnitz going early to get away from Jensen Plowright the Australian sprinter who was in there for Alpas Dernick plowright might have expected he would clean up at this first one but Joshua Goodnit getting the first of these three sprints and setting up a battle with uh with plow right other riders who were in the breakaway George Jackson was there in the purple of Burgos Bellelet Biach and Victor Vakoule in the yellow and blue of Flanders Balwis the breakaway man of the sprint so far he’s had a fantastic year this was the second of the intermediate sprint points and Joshua Goodnitz this time going again early but with Jensen Plow light following him plow right up the inside and the Aussie winning that one so the battle between those two was going nicely won a piece in terms of sprint wins so far red Bull Bora Hansrow are adding their bit to the chase as well through Giovani Aliotti who was doing his climbers sprinters pacing bit on the front of the pelaton and everything so far was looking fairly formulaic the gap was starting to come down george Jackson being reeled back in the Borgos Belle Bachim man and riders were constantly pouring water down their back of course the cameras following and watching Mars Pedison everywhere he goes in his return to racing since that Jirro ditalia where he won four stages and the points jersey too victor Voulei the Belgian rider in the breakaway decided he would have the last of the points and therefore the battle for that sprints classification would come down to these two behind and actually Joshua Goodnit gave it a good run but in the end Jensen Plowight just that little bit too strong for him behind Victor Vui who persisted out front thought about going alone by himself the breakaway artist Dulux this spring as well vui has been absolutely fantastic this springtime his hit rate at surviving in breakaway is remarkable well this was onto the finishing circuit and we had new riders attacking from behind riding up to join the remnants of the original breakaway and in they included Casper Pedison riding for the Danish national team sud our quickstep rider of course Cedric Bullins the lotto man the Belgian and Dan Hula the tall strong Dutchman stage winner of course at the recent Juratalia in the individual time trial so real firepower in there and this was the final lap this happened now this was a problem because it took out some of the strongest sprinters in the race and their team workers too olaf Koi kept out by this final sprint amongst others too so in the end we were left with a group of around about 4550 riders who would contest the win as well and UNOX mobility as they had done throughout continuing to pace and put their faith in Son Vanskold and others eventually Cedric Bullins would be caught and all of the breakaway would be caught but very very late on we were wondering at one point whether we would get the sprint that the Copenhagen sprint promised and then we knew it was going to happen as Well but it was a very very messy run in as well rob Stannard it was at first for Bahrain Victorious who tried to set things up and then Phil Bowhouse went hard down the middle and Dylan Coronovan burst onto the right hand side of the shot as we look from the front you could just see him starting there the Dutch national champion down the middle Alexi Renard looking like he was going to get the biggest win of his career so often second so nearly there and then came Yordi May just like that the Red Bull Bora hands grower man popping up very late on into the headwind and taking yet another big win the Belgian for Red Bull Bora hands grower perfect timing perfect in avoiding that crash getting the congratulations of Tim Van Djk as well here it is again from on top there was the moment that Dylan Grovan used his explosive speed but look at the speed of Alexi Renard the Frenchman so close to a World Tour one-day win today for Copidis but he couldn’t do anything about the final pace of Yuri Mayus emilian Shenier popping up for another top three place in a very impressive season of sprinting for him so far the Frenchman Frenchman in second third fourth and sixth gordos getting the 14th professional win of his career to go alongside that tour to France Shelise stage as well and this was his biggest one-day world tour in of his career alexi Rainar and Emilian Jenier competed a second and a third ahead of a fourth for Ann Arnold Demar meaning the French were performing really well as well if you want to watch the whole thing go back and watch it on Discovery Plus the first ever edition of the Copenhagen Sprint had ended in a sprint he couldn’t have it any other way

  1. For a good while I was pretty convinced that the first edition would fail to live up to its name and it would not end in a sprint. Daan Hoole looked so strong out on those laps outthere until he talked on the radio and sat up more or less. I still don't understand why he did that.

  2. And they close a whole city, two days, and don't care about the ones who live there, for this shitty sport, at least give me a motorcycle race, not these juppies

  3. Meeus' timing was so good for the headwind finish. He jumped from rear wheel to rear wheel coming from rather far back. Amazingly done, and a joy to watch!

  4. What makes the difference between winner and second place here? One rides a look bike and the other specialized. At that level material makes a big difference. And you just cant compare a look bike to a specialized top frame, roval wheels. I know because Jempy Drucker who rode for BMC back then switched to bora and he said that the bike would make a world of difference. Details. Big details
