My shifter cable keeps breaking at the holder. Already broke 3 this summer. Also its on a dh bike so i dont even shift a lot. its torqued to the right spec. Shifter is Shimano Zee 7s. Anyone know what the problem could be?
First. Use decent cables if you are not already.
Second. I would ensure you are not over torquing it.
Last. I would pull the bolt and check there isn’t debris or a sharp edge

Most likely over tightening bolt, also possible to get rock strikes on derailleur body and cable is weakest link.

Looks like it’s getting pinched. Are there any sharp edges on the RD or pinch bolt that could cause it to fray?
You could try filing it down to make the edge smoother. Or try a different type shifter cable?
Could also be a mfg defect.

Looks like the angle is just too sharp by design.
Therefore, I’d follow basically all the four pieces of advice so far:
1. Get good Shimano cables
2. Do not over-tighten the pinch bolt
3. Actually look inside the ferrule for remnant of frayed cables and clean em out
4. Do not shift under power
5. Make sure indexing is 100%
6. Ensure the drivetrain is clean and not gunked up.

Are you replacing the housings too or just the cables?
Amazon Shimano or reputable dealer?

Cable goes in the groove slightly left (photo left). Don’t wind it up tight against the bolt itself.
