My derailleur hanger broke recently when I was starting from a stop (there was no crash/impact, I don't understand how it broke which could be relevant?)

I replaced the hanger and reinstalled everything, and now the chain is getting caught on the lower pulley as shown in the video in every gear, not just in the gear shown.

I'm concerned that something on the derailleur may have been damaged / bent when the hanger broke – does that seem likely? Or is it just in need of adjustments?

Replaced a broken hanger – is my derailleur damaged or just in need of tuning?

Looks like the chain is jumping on the jockey wheel. Chain links tight?

I can’t see well from the video, but my first guess is that you have two possibilities. Either it is a mismatch between the wear of the chain and of the other components of the transmission (jockey wheels or cassettes), or more likely that you need to do a realignment of the derailleur using the the micro adjustment on the shifter. I think just a small adjustment of the tension of the cable should fix it.

  3. Couple of considerations:

    1. Old chain is old
    2. B-screw adjustment on rear derailleur is too lax or misaligned to hanger
    3. Jockeys are worn

  4. How does it go when you’re not back pedalling the upside down bike? Chain jitter when you back pedal is normal. The chain and cassette aren’t really designed to go backwards.
