Hey guys

On my previous setup , i was using pretty much a frame with 12.7 , 12.8 inch rear end frame , im glued to the length, everything feels super easy , paired it up with a shorter 160mm crank arm , but to be able to run it slammed at 12.7-12.8 is a pain in the ass , my luck was never there , chain will always be extra long , couldn’t fit it properly doesn’t matter if its halflink chain or not , the length will always going to be above 13 since chain that needed to be added .

So the idea is to get a super short frame , that is around 12.5” , but dont run it slammed , pull it back and i felt extremely relieved since its going to be around that 12.7-12.8 ish length. Might not be a popular opinion , but im sure you’ll like the twitchy feeling of the bike while being short , still having the room to adjust, i did it on 3 12.5” frame which is the cult tooshort , bsd alvx and the kink royale . (Yes , am too geeky changing bike parts)

Overall, i am so happy it worked out so well ,
Ps , the pros
It will work so well running loose chain for crankflips which i does
Not gonna pissed yourself taking out the wheel

The cons
Not all people can run short chainstay , your fourth pegs with eventually get in the way and make you feel uncomfortable, thats the reason I mentioned about running 160mm crank arm .

Chain may be too loose for some people who hates it .

Some might agree and some will not .

Its is all preference.

Whats your thoughts? Happy trying !

  1. Hahah, almost exact same situation, except I’m running 165mm cranks. I love crankflips too, I’ve always ran my chain crazy loose. Who cares if other people don’t like it… Does it cause you any problems? Can you still ride your bike? Do the tricks you like? Then  it’s all good.

And who knows, maybe you’ll be setting the trend for new-new-school… When the mid-school street era got cracking, it was considered super lame to have 4-pc bars (they were for vert riders and lame), bars taller than 8.5″, or a low BB/steep head tube angle (that was 80s and lame). Now all
those things are part of the recipe that’s made BMX progress.

If a slack chain lets you do more stuff, more people will be doing it soon enough. Ride your own style and keep progressing man!

  2. Whatever works and suits what you want out of a ride. Personally anything sub 13-13.25 is way to short, forces new short cranks on to the rider and at this rate who’s gonna run an 18″ rear wheel and a sub 12″ rear…../s !

  3. NOT for me, but if you like it, have fun.

Also curious what gearing you are running?
    25-9?
I wonder if a 27/28 would eat up some slack.

You don’t need a loose chain for crankflips btw. If the BB spacer is sized correctly you can tighten tf out of your cranks and chain and it’ll still spin fine
