Installing a Shimano CUES crankset with new MT501 bottom bracket, and I noticed this spacing I can’t seem to get rid of. There is no play in the cranks and it seems solid.

Measure the width of the bottom bracket shell. It’s probably 68 mm. If so, you need to install three bottom bracket spacers (1 on the left, 2 on the right) instead of one.
No. Either you need to set the preload or add more spacers for a 68mm shell.
