Have you heard of the ancient Japanese tradition called the misogi? Well, I can’t ride a bike, but this summer I decided to cycle all the way to Belgium. You’re thinking, why on earth would you do that? A misogi is a big challenge you set yourself where you have roughly a 50% chance of certain failure. Now, I don’t have all that trendy cycling gear. The furthest I’ve probably ridden is about 5k into town. Getting to Belgium on a bike felt like a challenge that would humble me. And I was right. Brouge was my first stop. 70k only 4 hours on the map. It said things didn’t get off to the best start when I cycled 2 hours in the wrong direction to get landlocked on a beach just outside Dunkirk. Stupidly I hadn’t really thought about the weight in my bags and shock it really slowed me down. Miraculously I got into Bruge at midnight and the hostel took pity on me.   1. I did this last week . No tent and only €15 to name . I tried to cycle across Ireland . Long story short after 100km my phone fried in the heat and I was stranded
