Hey everyone,

I just got a brand new Canyon Grizl 7 about a week ago, and after only one short ride, I’m already dealing with some major issues:

📸 See attached photos:
1. The rear derailleur cable is completely frayed, almost like it burned or snapped under too much tension.
2. There was originally a longer cable with a crimped end, which now seems like it was too long — when shifting into the largest cog, I could hear some grinding/scraping. By the time I stopped and checked, the damage was already done.
3. The chain has rubbed the frame noticeably near the chainstay, even though there’s a factory chain protector. Honestly disappointing on a brand-new bike.

My questions:
• How can this happen so quickly?
• Has anyone else had similar issues with Canyon bikes or the Grizl in particular?
• What would be the best way to approach Canyon for warranty or support? Should I ask for a replacement or refund?

This is super frustrating — I didn’t ride it hard, everything was set up as delivered, and it’s already showing wear and failure.

Thanks for any input or advice on how to deal with this!

Looks like the cable screw on the first picture was not tight enough and that caused the cable to slip through. The cable no longer being tightened caused the other issues. I would contact canyon for a compensation and take it to a canyon service partner for them to fix it up

  2. I get that chain slap on my ultimate as well. Don’t know how normal it is but I have it.

  3. So just to understand your question: you ordered your bike –> got it delivered –> put it together (steer and wheels) –> hopped on and started to ride?

Did you check if everything was mounted right? Did you adjust the derailleur and drive train? Did you check and torque bolts?

Wow, that is not for the faint of heart…

  4. I get the chain slap on my grail cf 7 too. Brought it to the shop, they said it’s normal 🤷🏻‍♂️
