After a week of full-on racing, lots of chances for the barers, starting to get slim pickings for the sprinters, that was all about to change. The stage 8 got itself ready. The fast men knew their duty. It would have to be at the end of 171 km destination Laval. Back-to-back sprinting days then and the green jersey at its points very much to the forefront of people’s thoughts. Only moments way before the start of stage eight. A day for the sprinters. Tatti Pagata looking respplendant back in yellow. But the feeling today, well, there’s a lot of nervousness amongst the sprinters. They’ve got heavy legs after a few very, very difficult days. But this sprint, everybody agrees, is going to be very, very complicated. The key word of the day today is all about momentum and leaving the sprint because it’s uphill till very very late. But everybody is focused. Everybody is nervous. This should be a thrilling finale, but quite an unusual one as well. And so to one of the flattest stages on this year’s Thr of France, a small climb just one point up for grabs. categorized for destination level with a very light northeasterly wind just blowing in to possibly just cool us down. Boy, do we need it a little bit. Temperatures well rising up to 32 Celsius. So, that breeze had its work to do. And a storm potentially at the end. A very technical finale. We just wanted to keep our fingers crossed for everybody today. How would it pan out? Let’s find out. Well, kilometer 0 came and kilometer 0 went, but a break didn’t. No, it was almost locked down at the front. And after being held at around 90 second margin, which seems the fashion in this race so far, nobody really wanted to take it on. It was just too much to ask. And with the intermediate sprint implanted quite a long way down the road, it meant that the temptation to go up the road was neutralized. And so a long day in the saddle. The intermediate sprint would rise up with 85 kilometers already under their belt of the 171.4. And you could see that Milan who was carrying the green jersey on behalf of Tali Bukachi who owned it after victory the day prior in the Mir de Bratana. He wanted that back good and proper. He was in a serious mood. Tally himself shooting the breeze with Sha Ma who thankfully looked an awful lot better after his crumple yesterday carrying a broken rib. Well, time to go racing for the fast man. And for the first time, Timberlier actually got himself involved. the European champion with an intermediate sprint. But you could tell just by the demeanor across the line, Jonathan Miline was not going to seed points here, wanting that green jersey back. And suddenly with just 80.5 km remaining, Team Total Energies honored the race and got themselves off and up the road. Everyone else thought, well, let’s hold that margin. But really, we’re thinking about the finale itself. The terrain started to pitch and toss. There was a king of the mountains point up for grabs, but Burgdon their share doing their fair share, I think you might say, of the work. Meanwhile, time to shoot the breeze after looking very serious at the beginning of the day. Shia Omea, the pain of his cracked rib perhaps easing. Others, well, they were starting to taste the ashfelt, I’m afraid. So many have done the same this time turn of Mark Solair. Well, the two up front were doing their best to buy some favors in the competivity award for the day. No chance of that being struck out with their efforts, but the pace was picking up and teams were getting themselves into color order. And this was going to be about those sprinters were nice and powerful in sketchy circumstances, but also with a terrain that would pitch up towards the very last. Three roundabouts very, very late on would also cause constellation. How on earth would they muster it at pace with a grind to the line? Our two breakaway riders up the roads kind of split the duties between them. Ultimately though, they were going to get wound in. This would be a sprint finale. It had been on the cards from the very start. And who could deny the palatin? Having worked so hard, of course, over the opening seven days of this race, the puncture for Timberlier, potentially neutralizing his full drive for the last. We would see how he picked it up. Still time to recover, getting himself back in racing. And I’ve got to tell you, so were we. After a very long day in the saddle, back-to-back sprinting days, it was about to get very active indeed. Who would triumph? Let’s find out. 3 hours 50 minutes into the final few hundred meters. Ver with that very big leader. It’s Stewart in the end who’s leading Akaman who’s made his way up for there as well from the bed behind him. And that’s it now. And now we go on through the center. It’s in the green. It’s Jonathan Milan with that start of his first tour of France stage is in watch. But look at wealthard. He’s still on the wheel. He can’t get round. It’s gigantic stump from the big man himself. And Mighty Milan has his first tour to France stage win. Well, he’d done it of course before, but not at the tour. And this was absolutely magnificent. Jonathan Miller in his pomp and absolutely delighted to have achieved this feat. An amazing sprinter. Wes Green on behalf of Tai now of course back in it good and proper. Well, four stages of the year tally to his name and now adding to that tally here at the tour of France. Brilliant rider an absolutely dominant finish today. Superb job. me and I take it ahead of what out Ken Groves Akamand Ol nice to see him back there your top 10 top dog Ban yeah you know I think I didn’t uh still understood what uh what we did uh you know to come with some uh expectations and some some dreams to bring home. Uh then you know to to predict them and to bring them home is they’re two different things but I was confident with the team and uh was dragging up so much the the last kilometer kilometer and a half. I know that I had to wait as long as that I could but yeah I like this kind of finals. Uh was really really happy for the work that we did. We really deserve it. Absolutely true. Maxing out the points not only at the intermediate but also at the very end and leads that competition now by a margin of 36 points. Job well done. He’s got another chance of course to Chatau tomorrow. As far as the overall is concerned, Tenner Pukata still safely in that yellow jersey by a margin of 54 seconds ahead of Remco Apollo. That’s unlikely to change as we go sprinting to Chatau tomorrow. And let’s take a look at that. Chino, traditionally a red wine that you put in the fridge. Tomorrow is going to be hot. Central France, of course, as we head inexelextably down towards the Pyrenees. Another sprinting day before the land kicks up of course on Monday. Kettoier. First we got to deal with this pretty similar distance to today. 174 kilometers. No mountain sports up for grabs for an early sprint. Should mean it starts lively. See you then.

  1. Milan had some good moments in 2024, and another good start to 2025 including dominating at the Giro, and now looks like it will carry forward and result in the Green jersey at the TDF.

  2. Can you imagine the meeting with the TdF planners?
