Kilometer zero, the exit from Saint-Méen-le-Grand for the start of this eighth stage. The riders who will leave Brittany today, leave this department of L’Îlle-et-Vilaine, where we were already yesterday for the start near Saint-Malo. We will leave the 35, reverse the numbers and head towards the 53 in Mayenne today, in the spotlight with this finish in Laval. The real start of this eighth stage given by Christian Prudhomme. We are already positioned on the side of the Green Jersey, Alpecin-Deceuninck, Tim Merlier, on the side of Anthony Turgis, also to join the small battle of the Vitré sprint. We have taken back the lead on the side of the Intermarché-Wanty team. Biniam Girmay, alongside Jonathan Milan. Remember, we had the same image yesterday, but at a completely different speed, since we got up very early for Girmay, Milan and De Lie, especially Jacky. It’s good-natured. We saw Simone Consonni laughing with a teammate from the Intermarché team. I’ve known more nervous intermediate sprints, while we are, as you can see, only a kilometer away from this sprint which will award 20 points to the one who crosses the line in front. There’s friction between Simmons and Turgis. Watch out. What makes us, Quinn Simmons, rub with Anthony Turgis? Here we go for Jonathan Milan. Jonathan Milan launches his sprint. The Green Jersey wearer turns around. The city center of Vitré, used to hosting the Route Adélie de Vitré, which hosts the intermediate sprint. Good point, Jacky, it’s exactly the same line as the finish line of the Route Adélie de Vitré. It’s also the same crowd that came out in force to admire the Tour de France riders. Jonathan Milan is the one who’s coming to take the maximum number of points. Yeah, we can see it, it’s a great sprint, but it’s not 100%. We’re saving some for the finish. From the last one. Watch out, two-man attack. Just now, it’s… Jean-René Bernaudeau’s TotalEnergies have tried three times to break away from the peloton, and Quinn Simmons is going to react. Two riders from the TotalEnergies team to try to create the first breakaway of the day. And yes. To look for the fighter. To go and look for the fighter. There weren’t any during stage three towards Dunkirk. So, TotalEnergies want to dynamite this stage a little. Yes, and then we saw earlier, Quinn Simmons controlling it a bit. There, he saw them get away, but two-man is better than alone. A frank attack from behind. Oh, watch out, crash.
It’s Marc Soler after Joao Almeida, the Portuguese, yesterday again a teammate Crash. Soler. of Tadej Pogac on the ground today. Coming out of a corner like that, there. It’s the first crash of the day. We were talking about the nervousness that would certainly appear as the kilometers went by. Here, here is the nervousness with Marc Soler’s crash here. It’s not serious for the rider, but apparently, the bike took a good knock. The Côte de Nuillé sur Vicoin. A climb classified as a fourth category. The only climber on the Tour route today. Mathéo Vercher, Mathieu Burgaudeau are still leading the way towards Laval. There’s plenty for everyone. As we saw, the crowd came out to gather for the only listed difficulty. It’s okay for everyone. We arrived quickly too. I thought we would take a little more precautions on the peloton side, No, it happened a lot of bullets. It happened a lot of bullets and it went through for everyone. That’s the main thing. The summit for Mathieu Burgaudeau, for Mathéo Vercher, who finishes this only climb listed in the mountains classification today, with Mathieu Burgaudeau still leading the way, Mathéo Vercher hanging on behind. I’m not sure that now, we have a minute ‘s lead again for this duo. So today, however, we decided to award two prizes for combativeness. Mathieu Burgaudeau and Mathéo Vercher are the two fighters of the day. It’s over for Mathéo Vercher, who’s getting back on his feet. We felt he was struggling a bit. Jacky. The news, Tim Merlier. Tim Merlier, victim of a puncture, a mechanical incident in the bailiff 12 kilometers from the finish. We remember the Arnaud De Lie incident, but that was 20, 25 kilometers ago. No worries. We said to ourselves: It’ll be okay, but now he’s going to have to call on teammates to regain his position. Within the peloton, to move up the entire peloton. Hard blow for the European champion. Hard blow for the European champion. We have crashes behind us. No worries. There’s trouble in the finale, here, at the door. Ackermann? It’s getting worse. Who fell? We notice what happened. No, it’s Michael Woods. It’s Michael Woods. How did he do it? What did he do? Right in front, Pogacar. Another incident for a sprinter. And this is on the French side. Paul Penhoët, too, has just been the victim not of a fall, but of a puncture. A little over 10 kilometers from the finish. Now, we sense he’s a little disgusted, obviously. There’s reason to be disgusted. We’ll have the Clément Russo card, Cyril Barhe of course, in this formation, and why not even Romain Grégoire for Groupama FDJ. But it was a finale tailor-made for Paul Penhoët. The bunched peloton is over for Mathieu Burgaudeau, who was caught nine kilometers from the finish. Mathéo Vercher had been caught a few kilometers earlier. It’s now a bunched peloton arriving in Laval, which is once again hosting the Tour de France. At the head of the peloton, the Lotto team is there. We can also see Mathieu Van der Poel. And Van Aert in the road, Biniam Girmay, a little further back. It’s rubbing. Consonni, who got caught and is trying to catch up. And here, we’re on a downhill section. Look at the speed at the bottom right, we’re at over 70 km/h. Yes, we won’t be far off 80 to approach the roundabout just after the banner indicating the last two kilometers. There will be two more roundabouts there in a few hundred meters and one more after crossing the Mayenne. Watch out, Van Poppel, who tried to go back up to the right, is slipping through. Watch out, he’s closing this roundabout a bit. Watch out, don’t get caught out here. It’s okay . It’s okay, it’s good. It’s okay for this roundabout. Even at the back, it was a close call, but it got through. It stretched out too, the Pritz Bridge now. One last roundabout to negotiate carefully before tackling the final climb. Remember, 1,400 meters from the finish, there will be 400 meters at 5.5% before the last kilometer at 2.4%. This is where the riders will find the steepest gradients. It’s very stretched out. We were talking about breaks. Where are the Vingegaards? Where are the Tadej Pogacars? They can take breaks. Look who’s there. It’s Mathieu Van der Poel who’s there. Kaden Groves, who was rubbed against Jonathan Milan to get back on the road to his pilot fish. There was shoulder to shoulder. Arnaud De Lie is ideally placed in the wheel of the Green Jersey as well, Jonathan Milan. Still two teammates for Jonathan Milan in fourth position. Between his teammates and him, there is Mathieu Van der Poel just behind, and Arnaud De Lie. He won’t be able to bring Consonni into his slightly steeper passages. Matteo Trentin is doing the job. Wout Van Aert is also trying to reposition himself. Or Biniam, he’s a bit in the wind. Yes, Biniam Girmay, there. Completely in the wind, while on the Picnic postNL side, We’re trying to get back into position. Paul Penhoët is trying to make an effort to get back up too. It’s Askey, I think. Yes, it’s for Lewis Askey. I don’t think Penhoët has already come back to the front. It’s for Lewis Askey. Pop, the shoulder pushes. The shoulder pushes between Mathieu Van der Poel and Lewis Askey. Dainese, Askey. Cyril Barthe now, who is taking Cyril Barthe with Jonathan Milan in his wheel. Jonathan Milan who will wait until the last moment. Mathieu Van der Poel who is there on the right of the image, ready to drop Kaden Groves. Be careful not to get boxed in for Jonathan Milan. Mathieu Van der Poel who launches for Kaden Groves. Jonathan Milan, still there. Jonathan Milan who is waiting. There will be elbows, it goes through for Jonathan Milan who will wait until the last moment to release. Mathieu Van der Poel is still leading the way because we still can’t see the finish line. And Wout Van Aert is also there. The sprint now with Jonathan Milan. Jonathan Milan still with a small lead. Wout Van Aert in his wheelhouse. But Jonathan Milan is overwhelming. A sprint won by Jonathan Milan. A finish tailored for him. And at the finish, the green jersey unlocks its counter on the roads of the Tour de France. Victory for Jonathan Milan. I’ll see if there weren’t any breaks. There are breaks, but only from there. We saw Pogacar very far down the finish line. And Tim Merlier, who had made the effort after the puncture, regained his position, but didn’t find the resources necessary to make the sprint. We knew it was a sprint for the soft riders. You had to be strong to avoid Wout Van Aert’s comeback. The top 10 that Jacky gave you a few moments ago. Johnny Milan won ahead of Wout Van Aert, Kaden Groves, Pascal Ackermann and Arnaud De Lie in the top 10. The first Frenchman was Bryan Coquard, in seventh place.
