Hey there everybody. Today we are in Portugal. We’re in the town of Lisbon and we’re going to do a special bike visit with a shop called Officina 35 that specializes in touring and gravel, all the good stuff. So, let’s go check it out. All right. We’re here with our friend uh Jannardo or Gino. It’s okay. Gino Gino is okay. Gino is fine. Okay. Well, thanks for having us. Thank you for Thank you for being here. Well, looking around the shop, uh it looks like you guys carry a lot of the types of bikes that we feature on our channel. Um can you give us a quick tour? Yes, of course. From the first bike you can see here, we can we sell like Chinelli, we work with Chinelli, Genesis. Uh we freshly started working with Kona brands. So like brother Cycles uh OCD. Uh we work something with Stevens. Uh we of course are uh Chinel Richie certified assemblers. So we love we love the brand. We work a lot with that. Yeah. It looks like you guys are mostly focused on like adventure or gravel bikes. Yes. Yes. The the focus of the shop uh is in long or short as you want. Adventures. Yeah. It’s the adventure. Uh it can be an overnighter. Uh you can go in a place that you don’t know just sleep overnight and then come back. It can be a weekend. It can be a um a week. It can be a month. It can be traveling around the world. We have built bikes for people that were starting like traveling around around the world starting from here. Tell me about uh that unmarked frame over there. Is that Everybody likes that frame. Everybody when everybody gets in uh they always look at that. Uh we actually don’t know what this frame is. It’s a mystery. Yeah, it’s a mystery frame. Uh it was here when we got here. Okay. Uh and we’ve been using that frame only to like showcase that set of Earth bads. Right. Well, let’s go over here. Looks like you guys uh still have some of the remnants of all city frames. Tell me about this bike. Okay. Uh some old some of the old city bikes that were available, we got a hold hold of them. Uh this is kind of a special one for us. It’s been uh stored as a frame for quite some time. And then we decided we have to build this. We made kind of a mullet drivetrain using compatibility with all in the swam world. Uh so we have a wide range in the rear. We used a garbaruk uh rear cour rear derella cage which allows you to switch from the 46 to not very recommended from the rival original uh rear derailer. And if you put that uh cage, you can really extend the range of the rear derailer. You can go up to 51. And we were talking earlier, you also did something like a a part I didn’t know existed because this has cable actuated uh disc brakes, but this isn’t like the usual suspect. It’s not like a spire. What What brake is this? I think it’s the Sora. Okay. Uh it’s in the Sora range. Uh it’s the only one. Uh it’s the only flat mount disc brake uh calipiber that we h we could find which wasn’t uh spire. Yeah. Uh and it works actually flawlessly with this with these levers. Cool. Uh we found we actually found that the sham uh brake levers, the cable actuated one uh worked the best with cable, any kind of cable actuator. Yeah, we always get lots of questions because we’re big fans of cable actuate discs and it’s either you know growth hack or Paul clamper. Yeah. And I’m kind of on Spire. Uh especially if you use it with Shimano levers, but I Yeah. I didn’t know that part existed. I mean actually I I think it depends a lot on the what you compare your components to. Hydraulic actuated disc brake. It’s unbeatable. Like let’s say there is no pole, there’s no there’s nothing. There’s no grow tag that is going to beat it. like a very cheap uh hydraulic disc brake is going to be always better, right? U but there is a world out there uh of not so expensive let’s say cable actuated disc brakes which work like flawlessly, right? Uh it’s a small world though. You can you can have these ones you you have the spires. Uh you have the we were talking about this before the BB7 or BB5. Yeah. Uh they work very good. The thing that everybody likes about Spire is the fact that they actuate from both sides. Okay. These ones don’t. Okay. So you it’s like the classic kind of style. So one pad stays the the most Yeah. The interior MOS pad stays fixed. So you have to uh use an Allen key to put it forward or backwards. H as I said if you if you plan to slam a a 15% like great descent and you plan to stop in 15 m right maybe this is not the great for you. Uh but uh if you fancy a normal right way of riding this will stop you like no no no questions asked. Well let’s uh what’s up what’s over here. Yeah let’s go where the magic happens away. Yeah this is the workshop part of the shop. This is where we arrange the bikes, we build the bikes. Uh we store some of them. There is there’s quite a few at this moment. We store some of our parts in here. The one we the ones we need the fastest possible. So like transmission components, so chain cassettes, uh brake pads, brake shoes, this kind of stuff. For other parts, a little bit less sensitive parts. So like for example pedals or crank sets stuff that you don’t really actually need all the time uh because they are not in a way consumables. Yeah. Uh we have another storage space. What kind of bikes do you guys work on the most? I mean I know that you guys focus on like gravel and and touring adventure but um this doesn’t look like any of that. Looks like you guys service the community as Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We we ser we are ready to service any kind of bicycles. Uh we just don’t work with like uh like motors, electric motors, sensors, cables, etc. It’s any bicycle. Uh this is a Tokyo bike. It’s a city bike. Everybody comes here with a with basically their horse. If it’s a raceh horse or a workhorse or a like touring horse, they just leave it here. Leave it here and uh and we work on that. Okay. We’re on the other opposite corner of the the bike shop. Looks like you guys sell like a a variety of things and not just like pure bike things. Yes, we we don’t only work with uh with bicycle components or bicycle accessories in this in this meaning uh we work with some of some of the accessories some of the uh clothing also parts of stuff that are connected to adventure. Okay. So uh we sell like uh bewalk bewalking uh elements. We like sell mattresses. Uh we want we are going to sell to sell like some tents in the in the future. Work with the C2 Summit. We work with KA. Uh we work with Rab for the for clothing mostly. Uh and then the other bikes accessories like artle the classics. What’s this? Is this so this is like a tarp tent or Exactly. Okay. Exactly. You can use this with your you can like attach it to your bicycle. Oh, okay. Uh so you basically you park you park your bike on a wall or on a tree and stuff and you make basically a shelter and you can you can stay down. What’s this thing? This is an amok. Oh okay. Hammock. Okay. You can you can you strip it into on two trees or two poles. It’s up. Folding serving spoon. key they have. Usually I just carry a spork, but sometimes sometimes you want a big spoon. This looks like it’s got like a silicon bowl, so it pops out even bigger. Little ones. Uh little bourbon outside. Oh, looks like you guys have a jack bike rack as well. Uh we absolutely fell in love with the with these components. M uh it’s been actually one of our best sellers like about bike racks because it’s so practiced. You can like put it in, take it out. It’s uh super super fast. We have clients that have never taken this off the bike. We have clients that take it in and out. Uh yeah. Uh the only thing that we would advise protect the zone in which the in which it clamps because there is always there is always going to be some movement. Yeah. And so if you really love your handlebars, we have this problem with the client. The the plastic is going to corrode a little bit the handlebar and it’s going to scratch. What do you do you put electrical tape or silic? You can put easy electrical tape. It’s very very easy. Looks like you guys have some Renee Earth tires. Yes. Um I mean from from the good and the bad these are the best tires for us. They’re the best tires that they exist. Some ultra dynamicos. Yes, of course. Uh we started working with uh we messaged uh Ron. Uh and we started collaborating with them. Uh the tires also work very very very nicely. Actually this is a this is a Caba. Okay. This is a cab in 40 mm. Nice. Uh this is Michelle’s bike. I work I have uh the same set of 40 uh which in this shop in this very shop like 40 40 mm tires are considered road. Oh really interesting. Uh Richie so tell me you guys are Richie certified Richie certified assembler. Yeah. We started selling uh the majority of bikes of Richie bikes that we have sold are Outbacks. Okay. Because it’s basically I think it’s the best bike than Richi has ever done. Uh, and we managed also to get a hold of one of these. This is my bike with which I like ride every day. They didn’t they didn’t make many of these, did they? Well, they made 100. That’s it. This is the This is the number 78. Okay. Of uh of 100. Uh you’ve got some uh alt bars. Looks like a Jones bar. And what are those two at the top? Uh those two bars, it’s one of the it’s a copy of the Bullmus. Okay. Uh they are made they are made in Brazil. Okay. from uh we should ask Arthur. I don’t know the name of the folks who make who make this, right? Uh the this one should be stainless steel. Yeah. This is chromoli. Okay. Uh and he brought these bars from Brazil uh when he went up there like one year ago. Okay. Uh these are and are not for sale. It’s uh it must be it’s it’s it has to be the right client, right? Let’s say. So, you’ve got uh Montabella up here. That’s one of the What’s the Omnium one? That’s their It’s is their gravel CD model. It’s kind of aggressive, right? In in terms of geometry, it works. Uh it’s it’s a super low stack bike kind of long reach, most likely like a square frame. Uh, so you have to run a good bunch of spacers if you want to be a little bit comfortable on the bicycle. So what I’m realizing is like some of the most interesting bikes are just the ones that laying around the shop. Uh, tell me about this one. So it looks like it’s titanium. Yes. Uh, this is uh the brand of this bike is is you can you can say Triton in in English. This bike is been is made these bikes are made in Portugal uh in especially in AO. Uh Dimitri is the owner of the company. Uh the bikes are made in full full titanium with 3D printed parts. For example, which parts on 3D printed? This part is 3D printed. This part are 3D printed and are 3D printed in Madrid. 3D printed in Spain. This is a race bike. So it doesn’t come with all the things you’re seeing here. So there’s rock tires they we have asked Jimter to put this for us. Also this bike comes in uh only like electric shifting modes. Yeah. So there is there wouldn’t be space to run cables. Uh we also asked Dimitri and he said like no stress. He drilled a hole in here if we want to like have have like a cable housing going now going out. Uh this bike at the moment is built um with the Shramm uh electronic shifting that uses the UDH. Chatting about this earlier. It’s these are cable disc brakes. So no shifters. Uh so how did you where did you integrate the shifters for for the you for the rear derailer? We are using the the scram blips. Okay. But the nice thing about these levers is that they are basically the shifting levers, right? Uh so they are basically the brifters which have been stripped down from the of the component that shifts right. So they are basically hollow. Okay. They have a cover. They have a plastic cover in the inside part. We took it out. We put the blips in there. Right. And with the with the rubber hook the hoods they stay there. Pedals are the new richies the new Richie platform ones. Uh we ordered a couple of them when our is testing them. Uh, cool. Creepy. Super super creepy. So, I’m noticing a trend. They’ve got a Garbrook hack cage there. They’re they’re not afraid to do interesting things at Ovicina 35. Yeah, we we try to Yeah, we try to do stuff that other bike shop don’t, right? Uh, this is not always easy, of course, right? Uh, you have to endeavor kind of u, how could I say? You have to get into a relationship with the client, right? Which allows you to experiment a bit with the bike. Uh you have to understand if the client is uh available to like by chance having to come back one or more times after the bike goes out from the shop, right? Because we we know that this can be kind of a frustrating, right? Uh it’s experimental. It’s like it’s like jazz. Exactly. Uh we we normally if we are doing something that is completely out of the box, right? We normally advise our clients not to get themselves into like crazy adventures like but try to try the mic for a month see if it works. There are things that of course work. There is your work that like your YouTube Yeah. uh archive that is demonstrating that some of those stuff works. What’s what was missing for us uh from your work and from the work of other YouTubers and from the forums and stuff is the long-term review, right? Because one thing is you you try a thing on a bike and it that works uh on the stand. Yeah. And another thing is what was the behavior of the derail of the rear derailer for example if you put a larger cassette then it’s recommended uh how is that going to behave after a month after two months of utiliz of use uh is the derailer going to be fine having a shop we can uh kind of control the air of the stuff we sometimes contact if we do crazy stuff on the bicycle we contact the clients frequently we say you know is everything working all Right? Like everything is is everything in tune and if we if they say yes, we put like the solution in our archive of good. There you go. I think you guys should start a YouTube channel. Good solutions. So this is uh our first time in Portugal uh and obviously our first time in Lisbon. What’s the cycling like here? Let’s say it’s been growing. Yeah, there is a large movement of electric bicycles especially between the people that work like kind of in offices. Uh there are fixed gears as you were seeing before. Uh there is a little bit of everything. Uh it has been actually growing a lot since like 2016 17. I remember when I when I first got here in uh in Portugal, I was it was in 2018. I was working in an office and I was seeing the only the same three people every day like in a five in a 5 kilometer course, right? I was seeing always the same three people. We were saying hello every day. Now I mean there is no there is no possibility to know all the people that you cross path with, right? uh while you’re going from point A to point B it’s very much growing uh the infrastructure is slow but steady growing we are again we are we are becoming slowly a cyclable city what do you think is the most popular type of cycling in in Lisbon it’s very very mixed because it got here you can say got here all once with co uh the roadies I’ve always been here but the roadies you don’t see every day uh the roadies goes goes downtown and go to the to Kashqai for example. So they ride like the stretches of like flat roads in the weekends. You have someone that goes uh north uh like doing the climbs in the interior let’s say of the region. Uh but you actually have plenty of all in in our small numbers. We are not Barcelona. We are not uh Amsterdam. In our growing number you have everything. So you have uh flat bar uh road riders, you have gravel bikes, you have electric bikes, you we are starting to have cargo bikes because people is understanding and that’s actually a nice way to move. The infrastructure for cargo bikes is however not maybe ready because this is a city that’s made especially like the center let’s say it’s a city that’s made of small houses. Yeah. Uh and small elevators as well. Most of the times no elevator. Oh, okay. Yeah. So like carrying a cargo up carrying a cargo upstairs. It’s of course impossible. What would be nice is if we had a kind of more bike garages so we can park our bikes out inside of other places which is not which are not our our houses. Yeah. Uh because even if we could Mhm. Our houses are too small, right, for cargo bikes to be parked in. Lots of people like are transporting kids from from the house to the school, for example. Yeah. And it’s very nice to see. Yeah. Because it’s a shift when you see that that’s happening. It you kind of are assisting to a shift of paradigma, right? Which is very good. Yeah. Because people starting, okay, this is makes sense for us. It’s viable. Uh let’s use it. Yeah. Tell me about um gravel because it I hear that there’s like a weekly gravel ride that happens in in town. Yes. Uh the it’s all consonants and so G R V L X. Okay. With the the last L and the last X stands for Lisbon. The ride starts here every Wednesday at 700 p.m. So people just show up and join the ride. We depart from here at 7:15 or less. Uh the majority of the rides are directed towards Monsanto which is uh the biggest hill park uh of the city quite big and it’s full of trails. It’s used for all the cycling spectrum. Uh you can go you have gravel trails, you have mountain bike trails, you have downhill trails. Wow. Uh and also you have road loops and now like lumbers are quite nice are 30. Okay. At most. Uh well, thanks so much for um giving us a tour and giving us or telling us about cycling in in Lisbon. It was a pleasure. Yeah. Uh if you guys find yourself in Portugal and happen to uh pass through Lisbon, then definitely check out 35. They’ve got a bunch of all cities. They’re not afraid to do some bike hacking. If you like this video, like, share, subscribe, all that good stuff. And as always, keep the supple side

Just visited a couple bike shops across Japan. It's a lot of fun popping into the smaller guys' spots. Humhumhug in Kyoto was my favorite so far, but I've yet to explore all the blue lug shops in Tokyo…
Aside from bourbon, those x shot cups are perfect for portable plein air kit. 👍
Wow, that All-City that was hanging on the wall… That must have been a tough one to resist snapping up!
Best bike shop in town, for sure!!!
❤❤❤ Oficina35!
hey, what happened to BK bike shop, that used to be in this place? This one is cool too though
For anyone wondering the caliper is a Shimano BR-RS305
Fun to find a shop in Portugal that can take clients to edges of peak mechanical and electronic frontiers, and not leave them stranded. A great fit for this channel.
What a great shop. I hope they are successful. 🤘🤘
Going to visit him 🙂
Hey Russ do you know of any shops like this in southern Spain? I live in Gibraltar.
Another great video. You're like my Natuonal Geographic of cycling.
So wonderful to see people just doing cool stuff. Awesome shop and again I'm struck with others ability to speak in English while I struggle to learn basic Italian.
Those Shimano mechanical disc brakes are seriously good! Had them on one bike, and they have taken me safely down some speedy cobblestone descents.
Exciting. Will have to visit next time I’m there. Thanks for sharing them!
So nice to see you visiting my friend's Bikeshop!!!!! I love this place, every time I have opportunity to be in Lisbon, I visit the place!!!! Parabéns Artur!!!!!
Super Excited. Will definitely stop by next time I'm in town!
Hello from Lisbon I'm a fan of your channel! Welcome to our lovely Portugal!
This Guy is great. Love his shop.
More of this please.
You're near my fave food place in Lisbon… Ha Tapas no Mercado.
❤❤❤
Fascinating. Highly informative.
I've got what I guess would be described as an old vintage bike, ( the old Specialized Allez comp bike ) with Campagnolo components and I'm having a difficult time finding a replacement 8 speed cassette, chain rings etc. Any suggestions? thx in advance 🙏🏽 🚲<- – – -💨.
Love the shop and vibe
Looking at that All City, it looks like they have some sort of metal noodle going into the brake caliper to help with cable compression?
What an inspiring bike shop. Great content. Am a ‘roadie’..love my Campag Record ..rim brakes. However this content is fantastic to see. Thank you Ross. In our sad corporate ,profit over people World ,we need creativity and passion…mixed with some accountability and honesty.
I believe that the Fuji Sundance came with that top handlebar with the triangle.
They stock Brother cycles. They ARE cool.
Hey there, love your channel! Would you please create a playlist of your vids containing cargo bikes? I see you got 2-3 playlist on bike packing bags 🙂 i agree, one can never have enough bike packing and/or bags!
The mystery frame on the wall looks a bit like a charge plug. One of the early fixed gear (quality) builds available for sale. Was a bit trick riding FGFS focussed
Missed this shop during our stay in Portugal! We spent 10 days there in early January… did NOT pick up on a bike enthusiast country but what do I know as a tourist.
I have been bike commuting into Lisbon for over 20 years. In the beginning I would see maybe one or two other cyclists. We would always greet each other. Cycling has become more popular since COVID. It's true there's an eclectic mix of bikes out there. I will definitely visit the shop. It looks really interesting. Thanks for the interview.
Totally agree, although the "adventure" bike they built for me is mostly for urban adventures! Like the shop and the guys there, it's unassuming, very friendly, and extremely capable (gravel/sand on 40mm slicks? Sure, why not!)
