It’s very normal in the Netherlands to see large groups of school children cycling together. School classes use their own bicycles to travel to sports facilities as well as to visit places of interest such as museums, forest and city centres. It’s safe for this to happen because there is a comprehensive grid of cycling infrastructure which covers the country:

This simultaneous green traffic light junction is a good example of safe infrastructure:

we learn or kids cycling on the wrong side of the cyclelane, tailgait the one in front of you and keep cycling next to each other. but its not on the road so the kids can cycle safe here!!
Not a single helmet, though!!
Verkeersexamen?
This video is wrong, it says it's not common elsewehere. This is normal in Denmark as well, we often went on lovely bike rides to cultural, historical og natural places, so there was an element of education. I loved those days, I always had an extra large lunch box and a snack on those days. So not just in the Netherlands. It happens in Denmark as well!
Who were those people in high visibility vests cycling along with them?
I love the sound of lively childrens' voices. It lifts my spirit.
I do not see any children cycle to the two schools that are 100-300 yards (meters) from my home here in the U.S. and few walk. There is also a good chance someone would call the police on whomever was shooting video of the children if they walked or cycled! On the other hand the nearby roads are clogged with the motor vehicles of parents transporting children to and from the schools. They drive even if they live within easy walking distance of the schools. It is much different here but some of us are working hard to change that…
No fat kids.
What does mean in this video
You should stand infront of a elementary school in the morning and be amazed at how many kids ride their bike to school by themselves
I am not sure why this is such a heart-warming, pleasant sight to see these happy, lively kids cycling to school en masse (for someone from the UK). I know it is a daily occurrence, but it so good to see them so independent, not relying on lifts from parents, and getting good exercise (no fat kids visible). Hopefully other nations will become similarilly enlightened and try to introduce more cycle infrastructure.
