Anybody out there who commutes with “half clip” pedals like these? What’s your experience? Info about these is a little scarce so I’m asking here to see how folks feel about them.
I’ve only ever used flat pedals, but my friends keep hyping up how great clipless pedals are. I’m not ready to make that plunge, but these half clips seem like a great compromise. I’ve got MTB pedals with pegs that work well enough, but having slightly better retention and to get a little bit of power out of the upstroke with out buying cleats and pedals and all of that fuss.

I do. I like them because they let me use stylish, one sided pedals, and provide just a bit of retention (less likely to slip when it’s wet.) They don’t really let you pull on the up stroke through.
I am using Shimano pedals with SPD clip on one side and flat on the other side, allowing me to use both clips and flats. I found this solution works best for my commuting purposes.
😂 no. It’s generally not necessary
I use straps.
Yes. I have mks track pedals with the half cages on my fixed gear. 90% style over function. I don’t ride far or fast on that bike at the moment otherwise I would put the clip less pedals back on it. They are no better than a good flat pedal with pins retention-wise. But I think they look cool and like I said the bike is configured for looks over function.
