Hi!
First of all: i know my bike looks terrible and I need to clean it!

I want to remove some spacers from my stem for a better fit (also want to cut the carbon fork). Right now I removed all possible spacers and want to test several positions with different amounts of spacers. I can not put the spacers on top of the stem since the surface of the spacer is not plain (little pins that connect the spacers with each other). Is it possible to do some longer test rides with a stem like this? Did some smaller rides just around the house, but imo this is not sufficient to test the position properly.

Thanks!

  1. Providing you have pre-loaded the bearings well enough and most importantly: the stem is clamping onto the steerer expander
DO NOT ride it if you do not have any metal inside that carbon tube where the stem is clamping!

  2. Risky. Your fork prob has the compression plug at the top so tightening the stem that low could crush the steerer tube. Lack of preload could mess up bearings.

It looks like there are no spacers on your fork’s steerer tube (the part sticking out above the stem), so you can’t properly preload your bearings.

So no, you can’t ride it like this.

Can’t see it from the picture whether or not they will fit, but you could try putting normal round spacers above the stem.

Also: f%ck all this integrated, internal cable, proprietery, non-round headset sh*t we’re seeing the last couple of years.

Aero is against teh spirit of garvel.

  4. I have same bike and did a test ride with lower stack. I just added another stem, normal spacers and normal top cap on top, but long term you should cut your steerer.
