  1. you want to remove the crank arm to clean the chainring? You may be Overthinking it. But, you may also need a crank arm puller, depending on which model crank/bottom bracket you have. As well as finding the thin walked 14 or 15mm socket.

As others have said, I thin-walled 15 mm socket, or one of these: [https://www.parktool.com/en-us/product/crank-wrench-ccw-5?category=Crank+%26+Bottom+Bracket](https://www.parktool.com/en-us/product/crank-wrench-ccw-5?category=Crank+%26+Bottom+Bracket)

Then, once you get that bolt out, you will need a crank puller: [https://www.parktool.com/en-us/product/universal-crank-puller-for-square-taper-and-splined-cranks-cwp-7?category=Crank+%26+Bottom+Bracket](https://www.parktool.com/en-us/product/universal-crank-puller-for-square-taper-and-splined-cranks-cwp-7?category=Crank+%26+Bottom+Bracket)
