I am a total beginner and wondering if the TREK Marlin Gen 3's aggressive riding position with 2.4 inches wide tires suitable for bike touring? Are 2.4 inches the new standard? Won't thinner tires like maybe the 2.20 inches wide have less rolling resistance? Also, the earlier Gen 2's geometry was more upright. Considering that, should I go with the Gen 3 or skip it?
I am not really comfortable with drop bars as a newbie and would much prefer a front suspension. Please help me out!

It’s not too aggressive but might be too heavy. Look into a dual sport. It used to have a front suspension but they now get the compliance from the tires and fork. Front suspensionnis overkill for touring anyway no?
Edit: you could even look for an older dual sport that still has the front suspension fork. They only removed it recently.
It is suitable. Lots of frame mounting points and the slacker geometry will help when it’s loaded up with bags and supplies. You can always switch to a thinner slick tire if 2.4 is too wide for you. The gen 2 had a much steeper head tube angle which makes it a more aggressive, twitchy geometry.
