No seconds on the road separating Pagatra and Vingard before this TT. Could Renco even a pool win back-to back week one TTS in the tour to France. This was the race of truth stage five from Khan to Khan 33ks. Pancake flat. We haven’t had a TT this flat and long in the tour of France for quite a while. Probably since I’ve been covering the race on this YouTube channel. Just hit 300,000 subscribers as well. Thanks for asking. Uh Remco was the heavy favorite. But before we’ve got some TT specialists uh who aren’t in the GC like Luke Plap, even Romeo, Eduardo Afini. Unfortunately, Filipo Gana crashed out of the race. This was going to be his big target. It seems that the win conditions might have changed a bit for these early starters compared to the late starters. Maybe preferable for the early starters. I’m not really sure, but Pl went out really, really hard. And then Afeni went into the hot seat for a very, very long time. a couple of hours because his the main competitor close to him in the early slots was Bruno Armarell who finishes just two and a bit seconds behind uh the Italian on Vizma Lisa bike but then we had to wait an hour and a half onto the GC riders Libitz got caught behind yesterday but today did a really really good TT I don’t have a lot of the intermediate time checks unfortunately the coverage I have to say was not good like it barely showed any intermediate time checks even though there was three of them with like the main GC riders rolling through. I’ve never seen that in the Tour to France before, but Roglish set off. He started slow as is customary, 50 seconds behind at T2. Uh but then he sped up from T2 to the finish. So sometimes you can be alarmed by Roglish, you know, first intermediate, but then he does a pretty good time actually. Uh 46 seconds down on Afeni in seventh. And then we’re on to the big guns. Remco even a pool heavy like he was really really short favorite. Pagatcha warming up. He had a bad TT in the doofen. Vingard had a good TT there but this is pancake flat and probably suits the absolute watts a little bit more. You can see locking eyes on the polka dot jersey wearing Tatty Pagatcha as they’re about to set off. And I haven’t mentioned yet Machu Vanderpool. I mean he’s done good TTS in the past especially in the tour to France. In 2021, there was a stage five flattish TT bit hillier than this one where he salvaged the yellow jersey. Could he do that today against a rampaging Remco even a pool? Especially when Remco, I mean at T1, he’s only 5 seconds ahead of Afeni. Although Platt blew up, so maybe Plap’s T1 wasn’t indicative. Armeda, he sets off. He’s obviously going to go full to stay in GC. He does a very respectable time. And I think that says Verlair has nothing to fear. has has nothing to fear of nobody or something like that and he doesn’t indeed. Veran’s a very good time trial rider not just this year but in the tour to France last year I think he came fifth or sixth in the TT and he’s wearing the white jersey so big for the team RK at B&B hotels he even catches Mars who was ahead or behind him on GC goes past him and sets a cracking time nearly 53ks an hour for Jorgensson who beat Vocalan in the doofen which should have a hill in it. He would lose a minute 20 to the eventual winner finishing behind Almeida and Voclan. Again, they didn’t show him finishing. So, or really like the intermediate time checks very well. So, that’s all I’ve got of Jorgensson. But then, Vingigard setting off in the the sort of the big super helmet and starting with a big gear. Typag looking more relaxed, less hot than the start of the Dolphin TT. He also sets off in a big gear. when he gets up to speed on these flat TTs like he won that stage five TTT or not TTT ICTT in 2021 which I don’t know if it was in this region it was a bit of a shock to everybody he beat Steph and Kung there and Aipool loses time to Afeni from T1 to T2 he was now 4 seconds behind Afeni so it was looking like perhaps Aanipool wouldn’t win the stage or maybe not take yellow on Pagatcha but Vingard it was looking even worse uh at T1 won. He was 22 seconds behind Té Pagacha and Remco even apool in just 8.2 km. And remember this is a 33k TT. By my maths that’s less than 25% of the TT done and he’s already on 22 seconds. Uh and Pagatcha in terms of the general classification was looking immediately like taking a huge gap on Vingard and also not allowing Remco to go into the yellow jersey despite every time it showed Remco his time would tick up versus Afini. But Vingigard it got worse. 50 seconds down at halfway through the time trial still with about 16 17 minutes to go. I mean he could be losing or would be losing big big time in this TT because Pagachi was holding strong. Pagachi was in fact the quickest from the halfway point to the finish. Marginally quicker than Avenal who Afini just has to look on and can do nothing. Beats him by a big 33 seconds. The only man to go over 54 km an hour average in this TT which you know he was expected to dominate. He’s a minute and five on the road ahead of Vingard who’s still got nineks left to run. And Pagatcha is he ending the tour to France after five stages and was Vingard losing 121 to Remco even which would be also over a minute to T Pagatcha who finishes strong. He saved time or took time on even through the corners as they entered back into town. Both of them showing that even the GC riders can beat the specialists like Bruno Armal and Eduardo Afini. 16 and change behind Aan Nepal who wins the stage. I mean you still got to go out there and do it and whilst Pagata didn’t win the stage it will still feel like a victory to him dealing a major blow to Vingard taking his GC lead way over a minute still with 16 stages to run. Here’s the final standings. Ed Paul ahead of Pagata then Afini Armor Thlan Lipovitz Romeo Almeida Plap and Costrio here is what the TT world champ had to say after the stage. Uh I mean yeah you never know because of course uh big guys like Eduardo you know that they uh they can do these courses very well um as well also uh yeah they can save a little bit more in the finals like yesterday. So uh I knew I had a I had a good chance but of course the legs still have to be there and uh everything needs to go uh yeah as as the plan is and in the end uh I think it was pretty good. Um I didn’t really feel like I could like I could go any faster. So I think in general I’m I’m happy with this result of course and uh with this second stage win for our team it’s super nice. How did you organize your efforts? Because you weren’t the fastest at the first time check or the second time check and you you really made the difference at the end. Yeah, I think I uh I kind of pushed pretty steady. Uh every slightly uphill part I pushed harder than the downhills of course, but I think uh my biggest um yeah uh I mean my strongest point was I I kept the same pace uh in the end as in the first 10k. So um I think that really put up my my pace and the speed and I think it’s also what we we saw in the intermediates that I was always going up uh and also still gaining time in the in the last 7 8 km. So I think uh yeah I paced it perfectly and uh everything was was was on point. So super happy. But in terms of GC big changes. Rogich and Lipovitz are the biggest movers actually as well as Remco Even but Pagant’s now got 42 seconds ahead of uh a pool. Vocal goes ahead of Vingard into third on 59 seconds. Vingard on 113. We got a hilly stage tomorrow. Could be a breakaway. Hope you enjoyed the video. I’ll see you then. Chiao.

  1. The lack of time check data was beyond sad. And the NBC coverage wasn't consistent in what they were saying for any of Evenepoel, Pogacar, or Vingegaard. Their video showed JV arriving 12" behind the leader at 9:52 (with RE 3" behind, yet they said he was 22" behind and then said he lost 19" to RE). There were numerous instances of this and it make keeping track impossible.

  2. actually there was a wind direction change during the stage. affini and plapp had a favourable wind at the first 16 km then the GC riders. so i think this explains why evenepoel (and/or pogi) did not lead at the halfway mark.

  3. You don't call it "Giro d'Italy" or "Vuelta d'Spain", right? So why call it Tour de France with this english pronounciation of the country?

  4. 2:41 Close, it's "Vauqelin isn't afraid of anything", if my French is correct. So maybe he did have something to fear, he just wasn't fearing it. (Too literally it's "Vauqelin not has fear of anything/nothing")
