BACKGROUND: a couple months ago I fell pretty hard on my gorgeous stead and completely busted the shifter (microshift adventX 10speed). took it to the bike shop and they told me it was going to be a hack job because they did not have the correct shifter and it was a quick turn around. they put the shifter back together and it honestly works like brand new. my issue is both my front and back brakes only work if the lever is fully engaged, contacting the handlebar. Both levers also do not fully return once released.

NEXT STEPS: In the front, the cable is worn and frayed assuming this is why the lever will not bounce back. in the back I’m not sure what is going on especially with all those zip ties, this brake barely works. How should I go about returning her to her true potential? Replace both levers? Replace cables first? Is the caliper broken? Pls lmk if you need more info or photos!!!! any help is much appreciated <3

Dude, you know you like really need brakes right? Wtf is with those zip ties? Just buy a new caliper. Cable actuated calupers like this are cheap. I’d start with that and see how the lever works.

And frayed cable on the front??? Dude….new cable is like $5 online. It is time. Better figure out if it is rubbing or something too because it should not fray.

Also, no f’ing way do you go back to the bike shop who put that zip ties on your caliper. Like seriously I hope this is a fucking joke

Absolutely nothing about this job was done correctly. I hope you did not pay these complete hacks for something done this poorly and dangerously.

I was a service manager and I would literally fire a motherfucker if they tried to pass this off. This is the sort of job you do on the trailside to limp your bike home, not something you send out the door as a finished repair.

  4. I hope your bike shop told you to come back for a full repair when they have received the parts. It seems they told you it was temporary so you shouldn’t expect it to work correctly
