I tried to connect the link with rhe chain on and it didnt work so then i tried to connect the link together without the chain and if didnt work. What am I doing wrong?

To get the little plate on you’ll have to bend the chain towards you and it’ll pop on
When I fixed my chain, i had a (cheap) tool at hand, to get the force needed onto the material.
It was so much that the tool actually broke in the process (Because it was so dirt cheap), so maybe more force than you tried until now ?
You need to insert the quick link into the chain, and then grasp it on either side and flex the link slightly so that the plate can fit onto the pins.
