Passed on a recent small group ride by the local police going 78mph in a 40mph zone.
Another rider in the group reported with the video to the police chief whom he said was pissed off and angered by the poor actions of his staff. Hopefully will see some improvements in the future (if only short lived).

Unlikely, the problem is because the worst you can do to them is paid suspension, they probably do stuff like this for the time off.
Basically until people lose paid days and possibly their jobs (and I don’t mean get fired by one department and move on to the next) they will continue to do these sorts of things.
Who cares? It’s a tax collector.
If this is the worst thing your local police are doing you should be grateful.

I mean, yeah, that’s a really fast overtake. I’d freak a bit if that rocket flew past me and I wasn’t expecting it. But at least it looks like he’s as far over in the oncoming lane as possible.

“Serve and Protect” is a BS slogan. They have absolutely no obligation to help you in need. This has been settled in law for a long time.
They can absolutely watch you get stabbed to death, and just sip a coffee, and do nothing wrong.

Remember when the St. Johns County Sheriff in Florida put a cyclist in the hospital by pulling him off his bike last year for failing to stop immediately as he passed the sheriff? They said they were investigating that incident too and no news ever came of it.

Yeah, sadly I have had police pass me VERY close at speed, within the 3 feet required safe passage law. I once had one go head on to me, flashing lights on, trying to get around traffic and was in his LEFT shoulder to do it. He did not stop and I had to go into the grass.
Not every driver the passes me, buzzes me, but ever cop that passes me, is definitely not with 3 feet of space and at an unsafe speed. It never fails.

it looks like he was over as far as he possibly could be. I guess the speed isn’t ideal, but I personally prefer cars get away from me as quickly as possible as long as they leave lots of room.
