Lol my city is the same. They ended up year to year changing it from dismount to not being in the bike lane, to closing the bike lane completely, etc.
What a mess of a plan

All the food trucks park in the bike lane here for the farmers market. There is actually enough room for them to park against the curb, they’re just assholes.

when it’s at sidewalk level, it gets used for sidewalk purposes. When it’s at street level, it gets used by cars.

When a bike lane is blocked I take over an entire car lane and I *slow down*

Paint isn’t infrastructure, even in a case like this. Just further illustration of that fact I’m afraid. And this is extra poor planning/execution like where are you supposed to go?

They should just close the street to car traffic.
There’s at least one Farmers Market that closes one of the streets designated for bikes in Portland.
I wouldn’t complain because you know when it happens, it’s easy to get around and I’m all for demonstrating why it’s nice to shut streets down for people.

I see a lot of people on bicycles getting mad about people walking and events like this whenever they impede a bike lane. Shouting, ringing their bell excessively, obnoxious comments, passive aggressive Reddit posts like this.
Honestly, I wish you weren’t so peeved by things like this. A farmers market tent has never punished passed you, honked at you, or almost killed you because it couldn’t be bothered to notice anything smaller than a large SUV. The farmers market DOES bring food closer to where people live, and usually encourages walking and biking rather than driving a car to get there. It’s a critical piece of infrastructure, and it tends to support city culture, sustainable living, and people-focused retail operations that reduce dependency on cars… and that’s all good for the future of bike commuting and public support for bicycle infrastructure.
So… deep breath, slow down to 10 mph for the next 10 seconds, and either get skinny on the left there, or dip out into the street for a hot second. Or do something helpful and send this picture with a note to the organizers of the market so they have a chance to address the problem. There’s no good reason to pick a fight with an ally here.

They should give each rider a piece of fruit for their trouble

This isn’t a bike lane. It’s stupid and dangerous, pedestrians will cause collisions.
In this case I would definitely just bike on the road.
