Hi All,

I just recently have finished building my favorite bike, the Giant X-2000, all with modern components and drop bars, but still rocking cantilever brakes. Wanted to share my experiences with all of you and made this blog posts about it: https://anthonio9.github.io/blog/posts/bikes/giant-x-2000-1996/ I hope it's okay to post this here. Usually I post directly on reddit, but this time wanted to try out this new blog hobby 🙂

  1. I love this build, and that was a great write up. I agree with your opinion on the cx-50s, pretty brakes but they don’t compare to vbrakes at all.

  2. Those cantilevers are actually really good. The problem is the brake lever/ shifters. Brake shifters after the 9speed era pull quite a bit more cable because of design changes in road calipers. A lot of people run long pull v brakes with those “short pull” levers.

FWIW trp rrl levers have a significantly higher mechanical advantage (shorter pull) than any Shimano brifter I know of. I’m not super heavy, but I can stand my bike up on the front wheel rather easily with these.

I hear sram brifters also play nicely with cantilevers, but I’ve never messed with them.
