Earlier you said you wanted to stay out of trouble, but the team was actually creating trouble. How good does it feel to be on the front foot and creating those splits? Oh, I mean it’s obviously nice to be on the front. Uh, as I said, yeah, if Yeah, everyone knew there would be wind there, so we we just had to uh to try. We we end up in the first group. Uh was our plan to try to to go in the in the wind with 20ks to go. So, uh the team did super well. they kept me out of out of trouble at any point today. So, uh yeah, thanks a lot to to the team first of all and and then they made the the split as well. So, yeah, for us, I think it was a good day. When Gisha lays out a plan to create chaos, are you there in the bus saying, “Come on, Gisha, can we just wait a little bit? Can we just have a bit of a calm start to this tour?” Yeah, I mean, to be honest, it’s it’s either us or or somebody else trying. Uh at that moment, we we knew it would come straight from the side. So, and we we knew there was wind enough. So, uh at that point, you know that either you go or or somebody else is going. So, you at that point you might just be doing it yourself. Uh then then you know you’re on the front at least. So, uh that was our approach today and uh yeah, we succeeded in that. And we know you want to keep Simon as high general classification as possible. He obviously had a pretty difficult day today. Um that is I suppose the one negative note of the day. Yeah, sure. Uh, of course it’s not nice that that Simon lost I think about 6 minutes. So yeah, that was a bit of a a bump on the road to be honest. Um, but yeah, on the other hand, we also kept ourselves safe and uh to be honest, I think yeah, it was probably the most safe final that it could it could be. Uh I think going there in this finish with on stage one of the Tud France with 180 riders then it would be uh yeah complete chaos. Yeah. Yeah. What what can you say about Yonas because he he looked really strong today. Jonas was uh was impressive. I love seeing him fight in the crosswinds. It’s so against his nature but uh he’s super strong and he can he can fight on any terrain. All right. Are you looking forward to the rest of the week? Going to stay aggressive just like that? Definitely definitely we came to uh to play these first 10 days. The race eventually split with 17 km to go. It seemed as though that you guys had a set plan that that was the place where you were going to go. Is that the case? Uh yes. Yeah. Yeah. We had a a plan to accelerate at K164 and and uh thankfully mostly we were together at that point which was not a guarantee today but uh we came together at the right moment and and thankfully it worked. Why 164? Uh that’s where we came out of the buildings and uh and uh it was exposed in crosswind. How much of a boost to the morale is it to already take time on Remco and Primos? It’s good. Yeah, it’s just the first day of 21, so I wouldn’t say 38 seconds is going to be uh consequential, but it’s a good sign that we’re uh we’re here to we’re here to win. Yeah, Mattail. Yeah, it’s not that many seconds, but it is. And it is also, I suspect, a mental moral blow to your rivals, Remco and Primos. Yeah. No, uh I think it was a good stage. And like I said, it’s stage one of 21. So, first battle, but the war is uh far from finished. How fun is it to be out there, kind of use your classic skills and and have some of that real racing? This is what you’re here for. You enjoyed it. Yeah, I did enjoy it. I did enjoy it. I think uh when you’re connected in these races and you’re not just there to to to try to not to lose time, it’s it’s way more enjoyable. And I personally like to play a part and and try to do something. Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, it was a was a good start, but not a perfect start. I mean, uh uh Simon already lost quite a lot of time because he had a bad day and he had a really bad moment where we had to change bikes. Um but we were in front with Yonas and with Mateo. So, uh what that part was was really good. Say Simon had a bad day. We saw him struggling to get back on. So, his legs weren’t feeling good today. As well as the fact he had a mechanical. Yeah, I guess he he didn’t have great legs and on top of that he had the mechanical probably at the worst moment and and then you have to invest a lot a lot to come back and and uh yeah then he struggled in the end. That’s that’s a pity. We know you had a plan to split it with 17 km to go. It worked but was would you have liked the wind to be even stronger at that point? H yeah of course but uh we always have to work with the circumstances that we have and and we were pretty sure that somebody will split it at that point and and then we can better be ourselves. big boost to have taken time on Remco and Primos. Yeah, I mean it’s always good to to take time on on our opponents. Would have been a big boost if you would have taken time on day today, but of course he was there and and there was never a moment where Yonas and they were out of position. What does this mean for the team as a unit? I mean Matteo was happy with what happened today. Yeah, I mean we had a plan. We wanted to do this and we executed it and I think the boys did a very very good stage. Ado, Victor, Tish, they they worked their asses off all day and and they were still there in the final. So, that was really good. Thank you.

Crushed? 🤔
Cue up "New Thrash" from Sublime.
Visma are by far and away the best team. UAE have the best rider though
Wonderful. Congrats Jonas / Visma for this fantastic operation
I think Visma’s strategy will be to keep the tempo as high as possible across the entire race in an attempt to put Pogacar under stress and weaken him. Hope that Vingegaard has better endurance. It’s probably the right strategy because being passive and allowing UAE to dictate isn’t going to work. The high tempo strategy worked in 2022 and 2023. Time will tell if it works this year.
This is BS. Alpecin did the crushing with Philipsen to finish it off. . And UAE were there also. The 2 favorites survived without setbacks. Visma have their feet on the ground. FloBikes not so much.
Remco was brilliant
Crushed? No stage win… didn't drop Pogacar… nothing accomplished. What's the point of gapping Roglic and Remco, Jonas will drop them in the mountains anyway.
Sneaky Visma … let’s get this TDF more exciting!
Remco will get it back in stage 5 or close to it. Roglic is not even on the picture. Only thing that keeps him from retirement is the 5 mill check. Redbull has too much money amd primoz is a prime example of that
Eh. Let em get tired. Pogi will destroy him come week 3.
go idol
Old tour
It's only day one, let's talk in 2 weeks
'Crushed', So taken literally, the race is over and no longer functional. I guess I should watch something else…
Great work , great team🎉🎉🎉🎉
Plan executed. Jonas stayed safe, and with a break bound to happen, he was in. Both Jonas and Matteo looked strong, but they still need to find a way to gain time on Tadej. Working with Remco and Primoz might be their best option. Exciting start to the race.
I think each team is trying everything to beat the team with most likely winner…so team UAE are in trouble…strategise to wesken their form…hmmm. then we have strong riders not In the limelight…..winner this year could be someone else…its tough being at the top….
Vingegaard looks run down and the tour just started.
The 1 guy he needed to drop was chilling in the wheels
They kept him out of trouble, but also dislodged Remco….
I wouldn’t call this a stage crushed by Vilma, they were there that’s all!
