Long gone are the days where a prologue or a team time trial would start the tour to France. Oh no, this was to be full-on racing from the very very start on a dramatic day. Out from Le and back again, just shy of 185 kilometers of sheer action loop. There were nerves out there to be sure. Start is just a few minutes away. Got T Pagatcha just behind me. But of course, today is all about the fight for the yellow jersey. It’s a sprint stage. The last time a sprinter took the yellow jersey was in 2020. But the general atmosphere that it’s not just going to be the sprint that is stressful. It’s very windy out there. They’re expecting a very, very fast day. The sprinters are under more pressure than ever because the prize that’s at stake, but everybody is on it. And we have all of the top tier sprinters in the world here today. But don’t just expect action at the end. That’s the word on the street. Expect action out on the road in what will be one of the most stressful days of the Tour to France.
Well, we all lined up. The great and the good were there. Not only the GC favorites, but all of the national jerseys taking part in this race, some of which have only just been won. Time to go to the office then for our pro cyclists. Three climbs along the way, an intermediate sprint, all to be looped back to our starting city of Leu. At the top of each of the mountain tests, just one solitary point, which made it all or nothing for those who are hunting down a polka dot jersey. But a yellow jersey was in the offing for whoever crossed the line first today. Christian Pam called us to order and it didn’t take long, just a few hundred meters indeed before we had our breakaway of the day. Benjamin Tomar was up the roads. Uh Labar was there as well. Rush Amirai and Verair. Well, Amirai, newly crowned French time trial champion, part of the engine room. Further back, things looked a little relaxed as the gap went up to just over two minutes. And then, of course, the wind began to play a part. It caused nervousness in the chase. The gap hadn’t fallen at this point. The crowds were out in force, screaming them along the line, I imagine, just wincing in pain as well. anybody who witnessed this. Pipogana down and sadly out after about five or six visits to the car falling upon his back and possibly the radio just working on a rib out there. Well, Talibu had called for safety. He wanted his team UAE team Emirates to be at the front. There were plenty of other big names for the general classification who were mobhanded in the safety zone and as a result they almost accidentally caught the breakaway. So big names were struggling off the back just trying to stay with the pace. Lenny Martinez was one of those. Our breakaway court one climb already decided and Benjamin Toma had taken that point. Next up was an intermediate sprint. Little trek with a perfect delivery of Jonathan Milan for that. But hands off the bar as well. It was for Yasper Fillison who just wanted to remind Brian Kukar was in the frame that he also had ambitions here. So we wait to see if there would be any sanction for such moves. Normally there is. Then everything calmed down. All fair and love war and sprinting it seemed. And then that temptation for Matio Verair to go off and up the road and try and equal Benjamin Tom had already taken of course the first mountain point. Tomah was determined that this was not going to happen. Tomah forotus in the regular here just riding with Versier then tried to go around him on the cobbles unstable surface and they both came down. Well, that was after Benjamin Tom had crossed the line again. All fair in love war sprinting and climbing it seemed. So, a King of the Mountains jersey had been offered up and then the wind blew and it blew a hole in many ambitions out there. I can tell you 75 kilometers ago, the Echons were forming and it was a nightmare for Plenty. Martinez kept getting back in, kept getting blown out the back as well. Ultimately on the day, he was to finish alone. Can you believe last man in point? Guess who? Jonas Finger. Well, if it’s on the floor, he’ll pick it up. one point in the King of the Mountains competition for one of the prime favorites for this race. And so as we started to come into town, we were picking out the main favorites for the day. But the wind, as you can see from the flags at the side of the road, was absolutely torturous. And the closer we got to our finale, the more determined some teams were to make this day their own. You had to be very strong, maybe just a little bit lucky as well, to be in the right echelon. And as it formed, yes, sure the big GC riders were up there, but so was Alison Kernik having fun, unlike Remco Evanol, who maybe wasn’t having too much fun, just getting a little bit cross country as you saw momentarily. That was how important the battle for real estate was within the pelatin. It was nervous times. It kept reforming, breaking down, and then ultimately we had a very selective group up front. Minim Gamay was just harried and boxed out of position. More falls towards the very last of the day. Ben Oconor one of those that was on the deck and ultimately we were heading for our sprint finale but not without more bumps and bruises it seems along the way. Almost the character of the day and what a finish it was. There goes Fool. He moves across to the other side of the road. It’s Stewart. He’s going to try and take a long one. Stewart who’s going on the right hand side. He’s in front. He’s ahead. He’s going all the way to the line. Jake Stewart on the right hand side. Behind they falter. But here comes Cernom. There goes Phillips. Philips will get a eye on the wheel. Got him through the center to try and get it. It’s Philipsson all the way. Yasper Philipsson with the line and he crosses it first. Philips flying a 10th stage win at the tour to France and finally one that gives him the famous yellow jersey. Well, you can only play the cards that you are dealt and that was a masterful performance out front and some big gaps for those who would under normal circumstances without the wind have very much been part of that finale. [Applause] Sorry boys. Congrats. No interview on the line. No interview on the
What a margin at the end. completely dominant. Yasa Fillison in charge leading this race. That’s a great start. [Music] And there it is. Fson took it ahead of Gabby Barshaw, Turgis, Trenton, Russo, Penway, Jorgensson, Maya, and Watson. The 10th victory is uh something never will forget and just a team performance. Um yeah, it’s incredible. I think uh we were there all day. All day was very nervous, but we know. Yeah, today it it just has to be uh yeah, our day and we have to be in the front and yeah, we uh we were there in the split. The team did amazing and in the end we just could uh use our strength uh be there and um finish it off. leading the race by margin of 4 seconds due to of course the bonuses factored in at the line. Looking very good in yellow. What a nice feeling. And what about tomorrow? Well, he could well hold on to it. Another day for the fast man. Another 50 points up for grabs at the line. Little more lumpy as indeed the categorization of the climbs just gets tweaked ever so slightly. and an enormous day of racing. 209 kilometers. It’s only the longest stage of this year’s race. Following Sumere is our destination. And look at that. Virtually no flat to be dealt with at all. The wind will blow and we’ll be here.

  1. Tnt. We all hate you for ending free to watch tour de france. You now give us 8min highlights like a slap in the face. I hope you step on lego for doing the same for downhill.

  2. Wind as Executioner
Lille awakened cycling with the breath of old Flemish gods.
On asphalt that smells of coal and epic tales, the southwesterly wind passed judgment.
Philipsen, a Belgian lightning bolt, seized the pale gold of the jersey without asking.
Evenepoel and Roglič, caught in the whirlwind, lost 39 seconds on the battlefield.
It was a sprint under invisible blades, a victory that tasted like an omen.
The echelons shattered the calm like a broken symphony.
Ganna and Bissegger crashed: the price of chaos.
The Tour didn’t begin with climbs, but with scars.
Philipsen raised his arms, but it was the wind that truly won.
And the yellow, from today on, trembles at every northern turn.

  3. My jaw dropped when he intermediate sprint crash downtown, my eyes couldn’t believe. Froze for a minute haha what a Day 1 . Hope for less crashes

  4. Despite my pricey TNT Sport subscription, I'm going to pay ITVX the meagre sum of £5.99 to watch the race live and ad-free. AD-FREE !!
As for you greedy lying cheats at TNT Sports – go stuff yourselves. Seriously, how dare you string cycling fans along for months and then dare to broadcast the Tour with bloody ads! For £30.99 a month!!!!

You'll pay a heavy price for this – you'll see.

  5. Just another day in the saddle for Tadej. Glad to see how strong and smart he rides, always being in the right place at the right time without expending any unnecessary energy.

  6. Pogacar lost time in crosswinds on stage 7 of the TDF in 2020. I don't recall him ever falling asleep and missing a split since. He learned his lesson well.

  7. watch ITV4 for better quality coverage, live and highlights.
Awful that from next year, no more ITV tour coverage, if you want to watch the tour live in 2026 you have to pay £30 per month to shiiit tnt
