good morning folks welcome back to the channel and yes you’ve guessed it the sun is out to little bit windy but otherwise it’s a lovely day so I thought I’d go for a cycle as you do and um this could well be my new bike I think this is a keeper for now let’s talk about the name so it’s a Danish brand and the model of this is a Vesta and the bike manufacturer hug I hope I’ve pronounced that right which apparently in Danish means comfy comfortable so yeah I’m on a comfy comfortable Danish bike having a bit of a ride out on our way up a hill let’s change down some gears I’ll get through the text specs in a minute if I can make it up this hill and still talk right now I’m in first gear this hill is particularly a well it’s called Tower Hill there’s a water tower on the top of it so yeah it’s quite a lot so I might need to boost my power a bit more I was in power assistance mode too oh there we go three good Cadence now about 6 M hour yeah comfy bike it’s a folding ebike Fat Tire Edition so it suits me down to the ground I can go anywhere bombing it around Fields dirt tracks Forest tracks you name it right just get to the top of this hill now seventh gear let’s bomb it down here see what speed we can get out of this 24 oh come on 25 H it’s a big headwind anyway back to the taex packs so this is the fully legal EU and UK um ebike they’re saying the range should be between sort of 30 and 60 km however I got about 32 miles uh from one charge uh and I still had about sort of three marks left of the battery um and obviously I’ve been up and down places on fast speed slow speed and all that um so yeah I would say sort of easily 30 Mi if not sort of 50 mile range so let’s start off with battery um it’s a 13 amp hour battery that is powering a 250 W rear hub motor uh the battery charge time is estimated between 4 and 5 1/2 hours obviously that depends on how much you’ve depleted the battery so that makes sense the power like I said it’s a rear hub motor that is delivered with a sspeed Shimano gearrain with uh little hand controls here on the handlebars to shift up and down gear so the bike in total weighs 27 kilos that includes the battery and it’s a folding bike so there’s usually a little bit more weight in folding bikes just to make them stronger there’s torque motor in there as well so I like that I’ve just set off and there was no so many terms of the pedal or anything like that it was just power straight away obviously this is a fully UK and EU spec legal bike so um yeah just want to put it out there which also explains why when I do the speed test and that that it doesn’t go so fast um because basically above a certain speed uh usually about 15 and a half miles an hour um the motor will stop assisting you and that is part of those UK and EU regulations um so once you get to 15 and 1 12 60 MPH thereabouts uh the motor is pre-programmed um to cut off and like I said that’s to meet these legislations the wheels are 20 in by 4 in so you got some nice fat tires on there which um are not too noisy I think the tire tread patterns a little bit different than most it’s got some nice white lettering on the side as well which apparently is um reflective at night as well so quite cool and these tires are puncture resistant so decent tires um like I say fat tire bikes you can’t just beat them they’re just fantastic in my view means I can go anywhere I can go off-road or onroad where I am now um and it just soaks it up so yeah good choice of Tire although I will be putting slime in so defin don’t get a puncture or if I do it’s going to seal it and but yeah I do like the tires which they do give an element of comfort which obviously fits in with the uh the manufacturer’s name speaking of comfort the seat is quite comfortable you do have front shocks which as usual um you can adjust for preload and you can lock out whether there is no rear shock so my personal preference would be to swap the seat post over to um yeah the zoom seat post with the uh suspension point in it just makes it far more comfortable especially if you’re doing longer rides now brakes as well are topnotch on this bike they have literally ticked many boxes to give you really good options so you’ve got hydraulic brakes disc brakes with 180 mm discs and they start up really well got nice mud guards that do help keep the mud off you obviously the bike’s always going to get a little bit muddy but so far I’ve been in and out of the mud today having a good all ride around and um my legs and my feet are all right we’ve also got front and rear lights which are controlled from the control panel plus button press and hold the plus button and then the lights come on like I say the LED front and rear really good and speaking of the control panel I really really like the control panel there’s a lot of information on there shows your power assistance levels your speed uh battery level how many miles you’ve done how many miles on the trip or you know sort of like this trip or in total and your average speed and one thing that I think really stands out on this bike over others is that that control panel has Bluetooth connectivity so I can link it up to my phone and um get all my stats on the app it’s another little sort of thing you know me I do like my gadgets so I do like that little bit too as far as handlebars and com Comforts and things like that obviously on the left hand side here you’ve got uh horn then you got the control panel which um like I said it’s got the buttons on there to turn it on as well as plus and minus for the modes when you switch the bike on it’s password protected so you need to enter a password uh before you can actually use it uh then you got in the middle headstock uh you can actually um easily adjust it’s quick release adjust for that headstock either just remove the bars so if you want to keep the bike upright but the bars are too wide you can very quickly and easily remove the bars so you can then store it upright somewhere um sort of nice and flat and easy um or you can just easily then change the angle of the bars as well over on the right hand side you got seven-speed control for the gears um and some nice soft rubber grips as well which is if it was me personally maybe I’d have gone for um the rubber grips with the Palm rest on as well because I think they’re the best but other than that these are quite comfortable still and they’re full size as well so um yeah anything you want to buy any accessories so change the the grips you know um it’s going to be a universal sort of fit in on there which I like like I say I’ve gone for the throttle on mine which you can choose to have or not it’s up to you but I just find that the throttle gives me the option to uh pull away from the lights faster or pull away out of Junctions faster I know I said it’s got a torque sensor so that as soon as you pedal you get your power but it’s also nicer to use the throttle just to pull away too so let’s talk about Rider stats now so Rider height is 5′ 3 to 6’2 uh obviously the seat post comes up quite a lot and The Handlebar height is also adjustable I’ve got it shown at its lowest setting cuz that’s comfortable for me um but obviously you can that up quite a lot as well if you wanted to uh as far as weight of ryer they’re saying 130 kg but don’t forget the rack on the back has also got its own payload and that’s rated at 15 kilos folding the bike is really really easy uh the pedals fold in to make that nice and easy to Stow and it also gets the profile the side profile of the bike uh quite narrow as well so that along with the headstock as well that can be adjusted so that you can actually uh easily sort of like take out the handlebars if you want means that you can store it on the back of a motor home or something like that nice and easy with a really Slim profile uh so the first thing I’ve done here is obviously uh drop the handlebars using the little stem post there uh the next thing is the lever on the side um and this is the connection where both parts of the frame obviously connect together so open that up and then that allows the frame to fold in half um and it literally is just as easy as you’re watching me on the screen right now uh you can see inside there that some of the wires and everything go through the frame and they’re all nice and protected uh and then this little bar at the bottom there the the u-shaped bar at the bottom which kind of like helps it sit upright uh when it’s actually folded in place um and then the final thing to do really just to again reduce the height of the folded frame and the bike um is just put the seat uh between it then so take the seat out and just put the seat there so the actual size of it when it’s folded is 89 CM by 76 CM by 54 cm um so again quite compact really uh easy to lift because of its weight as well so quite lightweight and then when it’s fully assembled um you’ve got a handlebar range between 120 CM High that’s from the floor to the top of the handlebars or up to 132 CM again because there’s 12 CM um again High adjustment in the handlebars from the edge of the back tire to the edge of the front tire is 174 CM again this is the bike fully built as I’m showing it you now um and then the seat is up to 104 CM uh that’s full height so if yeah if you are 6’5 that’s kind of what you expect from the dimensions of it when the bike arrived I’m thinking like this is a huge box quite Slim but very tall and it was only when it opened I was like oh I don’t have to assemble the bike it’s come pre-assembled basically the handlebars were sort of like Twisted sideways on um but other than that everything was complete all they had to do is add the battery um and then the pedals and that was it they give you obviously a little bit of a tool kit as well so you can uh tighten everything up again afterwards but literally like 5 minutes from opening the box the bike was ready um inflate the tires which they recommend 30 PSI in these tires and you’re ready to go so yeah as I said screen is lovely they got a nice little logo on there um but yeah to get going you do need to put the password in which is 4 zeros and then you get access to this really nice display uh which again shows you all the sort of information you need going through all the power assist modes shows you the trip your Speedo average speed all that kind of stuff so yeah I really like this so yeah well done hug for that one and I do so hope that I am pronouncing hug correctly so I just wanted to show the stem adjustment or the height adjustment of the handlebars so like I say it’s quite easy to uh adjust it to get it the height you want just like to see and they’ve even made it quite nice on there with the little numbers so that you can remember if you’re riding it between a few different people or if if you like me need to sort of like make it as small as you can to get in the back of your van and then put it back again to go out for a ride that you need to remember the exact number that the handlebars and the seat were at so yeah I really like that all right well thanks very much for watching my review of this lovely Vesta from hug and uh yeah as usual if they give me any discounts then I shall include them in the video description down below along with links where you can get hold of one for yourself thanks for watching folks and I shall see you on the next video take care bye [Music]

  1. Thanks for a great review of what looks like a very well thought out folding bike John 👍
Add a 500W motor (as per proposed changes to UK eBike regs) and the Vester would be near perfect for me…

  2. I'm still looking for a bike for my wife. This looks like a nice bike. Unfortunately, she's a short arse. She's shrinking. Apparently, she's now 4ft 11 inches as I've said before. It's a pity that you can't try before you buy.
As she rides mainly in the North Yorkshire forests, she needs a bike that is capable of getting here up some pretty steep hills.
Thanks for the review John. 👍👍👍

  3. A good review John, thank you. Always good to see they list and sell spare or replacement batteries. It's a small concern that the bike will outlive the availability of replacement batteries. Also nice to have a european manufacturer – The wide tyres are a positive for the off roady bits but no doubt introduce some noise and drag on the roads for now I'll stick with my electric Brompton – not ideal for those tracks more of a city bike so this folder does appeal

  4. Hi John. Off topic but where was the beach you and Mandy visited maybe 3 years ago where there was loads of abandoned fishing boats?
I've 'trawled' through your old vi8but can't seem to find it!
    Cheers Neil

  5. Question: the battery looks like my yose battery. Any chance you can show us the back of the battery and the holder as it would be great if my one fitted.

    P.s great video

  6. Nice bike, looks very much like the standard Chinese ebike. Is the Danish element the branding? What parts do they actually make in Denmark?

  7. Thanks to this video and after months of deliberating I decided to buy one of these, however I got the step through version also in White and having got out yesterday for the first proper ride, I can honestly say, I love it. It made a 10km cycle track feel like a trip to the local shop, people on normal peddle bikes were no match for the power of this bike. Totally 100% recommend it. Best purchase in a long time.

  8. Morning John. Thanks for making such great e-bike review videos. We’ve been looking at getting two folding e-bikes for our campervan which we live in full-time. We are torn between the Hygge Vester and the Engwe EP-2/Engine models. Which would you rather choose and why? 😁 thanks

  9. Have you tried the Hygge Virum? I’m torn because it’s much lighter. I’m new to cycling and want something that’s an all rounder but I like the idea of going on tracks so are the 4 inch tyres better / really necessary. Hmmm. Almost too much choice. Cheers Sarah

  10. A nice bike for a good price. And with 27kg less heavy that many of it´s competitors. If you can lift 27kg this bike will be a good choise, I need one with about 20kg weight.

  11. Hi all, 👋 I have a question if anyone can help. Is the throttle for hygge vester universal can I use most throttles. And what would be best thumb throttle. Or half twist/full twist. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you

  12. Hi John. Firstly, many thanks for great video. I’ve just had my Vesteer delivered and as you noted in video, handle bars need aligning bit I can’t for the life of me figure out how to do it 😢 I’ve no doubt got my stupid head on but can you advise please. Have looked at Hygge set up vids but they don’t seem to explain. Many thanks M

  13. New in 2024 ?…..I've had mine 2 years, bought direct from Hygge on the UK C2W scheme 🤣 I'm seeing a few reviews dated 2024, I guess because it is now more widely available/available at more mainstream retailers ?

  14. Hi John, I received my throttle today but bike does not accelerate more than 3 mph do you have to adjust a setting in order for it to work properly? 😮
