Motorway cops PC Andy Baron and PC Lindsay pickles are coming to the end of their shift I’m starving now don’t tell me you’re going to get a Chinese no I’m not going to get a Chinese but their takeaway is going to have to wait I had an earpiece in on a local Bradford Channel and I could hear um one of my colleagues mentioning a white Sprinter van that were making off from him and at the same time I could hear this a white Sprinter van came past me uh and I can see blue from a police van van had been involved or been seen leaving the scene of a burglary so that’s the only information that we had at that time yeah uh we’re turning trying to stop it yet we’re right right right on the victim Road Andy and Lindsay are trained in Pursuit driving one behind as they catch up with the chase they signal to pass yeah we’re falling over until come through go 51 we’re going to inter got a vehicle making [Music] off 51 we’re currently on mson Mary’s Road Lane you get a rush of adrenaline and I recall everything you know gripping the steering wheel and thinking right we’re we’re in for a roll here L left left onto Drummond Road you never know what’s what’s going to happen you never know what’s around the corner you never know how members of the public are going to react so it’s a dangerous situation after Chasing the van for two miles towards Bradford City Center Andy spots a chance to try and identify the driver and gets alongside the speeding van yeah we’ve got an Asian male driver person there are many many things that we we have to consider in a split second if that Target vehicle crashes into a family uh and causes serious injuries it’s always in the back of our head you know what if that were my family or my colleag family left left left onto White’s view Andy and Lindsay called for backup we’re currently on Walker Drive going back towards general direction of Fon Road Lindsay’s directions are crucial for the other units making their way to the chase speed is now 5 mph stand by the stakes are rising as the van heads back towards busy rush hour streets it was tea time people coming and going from work the children um it’s a highly residential area the roads were all busy U by the traffic lights Etc so it’s always something that we have to put first and foremost so trans it’s Mercedes Sprinter we’re right right right wet Lane again but before they can bring the van to a halt the game plan suddenly changes don’t do that don’t do that no don’t do that don’t do that where’s he go we’re going to be aborted at this rate what a silly thing to do we will abort um any Pursuit if the risk that they’re taking far out way uh the reasons that we need to stop them um it’s just not worth um ending up with a fatality ahead another police car arrives and blocks the road but the van driver is so desperate to get away he’s prepared to do anything oh pass back we were concerned at that point very concerned very fortunately the van didn’t hit anybody it’s always one of those things that is frustrating if if we do lose them um after a Pursuit but if it has to be aborted it has to be aborted we’re now back onto uh wler Lane we’ve got one front seat passenger uh that’s on the phone and a driver it’s going to be a DeCamp is this a minute I reckon I don’t think they’re going to keep going for long but then the van driver makes his first big mistake we’ve gone left left left onto Glenn Home Road and then left again oh it’s collided with um a a small wall but it’s continuing it’s it’s going to DeCamp it’s lost its rear near side wheel that’s the riskiest point of losing somebody as soon as they leave the vehicle and start running um that’s when you may lose them he’s losing control as is going around corners because he hasn’t got the stability at the back end as the damaged van speeds down a residential street an unmarked car joins the chase I’m going to uh where as Ashwell road now Ashwell Road the van is going round in circles and Andy gambles on taking a back road to try and cut it off careful they’re head-to-head with the van but the driver spots a way out careful on there was a gap in the park cars that presented itself to this driver let him get through oh now what he’s going to kill some this idiot getting the 2 and 1 half ton police car turned in the tight City back streets leaves Andy and Lindsay playing catchup M location update we now Walker Drive St camped St camped finally a city center patrol car has forced the driver to stop on your feet M on your feet nice and steady nice and steady on three 1 two three put in this all right two men are pulled from the van get up get up now yeah you’re under arrest for failling to stop for police dangerous driving ction that you don’t have to say anything mayam your defense if you don’t mention when questioned something which you later rely in C have you anything on you at all that you shouldn’t have no any weapons anything sharp that could harm us right PC Mark Claxton finally brought the van to a halt it seemed a very desperate man to get away for some reason if you look here uh rubber gloves on the floor when that’s usually indication that um a vehicle’s stolen damage to that’s not going to but we’ll see if we can get into the rear of the van and get out oh wow there Fant that the smell it is a mobile cannabis Factory that will be the reason that they’ve gone to try and get away and why he’s had rub gloves on in the front Lindsay and Andy whove decided to stop this vehicle and it’s been brought to their attention have just done an absolutely excellent job during the chase Andy suspected the van might be carrying cannabis the stench coming from back at Van even in his car following it were were quite overwhelming to get that uh Hall is is significant really it’s uh it’s an excellent result take that amount of cannabis off the street and it’s taking two major drug dealers off at road so yeah we do with identifying them as quickly as possible and finding out where they’ve been grown and and see if there’s any more and confiscating up equipment now Andy and Lindsay must try and piece together whether the Cannabis was being moved from a safe house or if it was stolen when you find something like that in the back of a van it’s not the end of the inquiry it’s just the beginning it’s 10:15 on a busy Friday night in lead City Center a call for help is coming through on the police radio 35 we have scabia in [Music] red initial techical pleas Motorway cops Matt Hemingway and AD Brown are heading into the city when they get the message yes that’s confirm request helicopter as well officers pursuing a stolen scoda are requesting urgent help from Cops trained in tactical Pursuit and containment 1091 would you show us on this teack job please luckily that’s just what Matt and AD specialize in come left come left and now they’re just seconds away from the pursuit We’re In It mate we’re be there as look would have it we weren’t too far away we want to get there and do what we’re train to do 500 this vehicle may have front end damage ited shortly before Romeo Tang un got behind it the driver has already tried to take out one police car people will stop at nothing sometimes to get away there may be desperate criminals behind the wheel of this stolen car still in the Ring Road onto y Road just pass in the speed camera to the near side the stolen car is heading towards the busy City Center if it gets there a Chase through the streets will become far more dangerous get out of way then the cops already have a plan that’s what there intentions there are to get two or three traffic cars involved and cause the car to stop or force it to stop it’s going off we’re behind you Kevin I get really angry towards the drivers especially on a a dangerous Pursuit as part of my job I have to try and catch you and the way you’re driving is putting me in danger come through a clip Road as more units link up to join the chase Matt find themselves right behind the stolen red scoda the final stages of a te pack things happen in a split second another police car races in front after move over and between them they try to box in the stolen car but the driver escapes and keeps going contact with police vehicles is you hit two vehicles stand by he’s lost go go go go go no idiot get your arms behind your back the whole idea is to profit on the shock that’s been caused by the the Collision that’s ended it really I’m in shock he’s in shock it’s just I need to react quicker than he is firstly to stop him driving away and secondly to stop him running away other one let go it was only once we had them both cuffed up and we taking taking him back to the car that you take a sit back and think hang on a minute you expect to be looking at a grown man what you call your typical criminal but it’s just a a couple of fresh-faced kids um who look like rabbits cut in the headlights we were chatting about something totally irrelevant and see a car and think just don’t look right the driver cuts his headlights and turns down a residential street M times I’ve chased cars where they’ve turned the lights off at night as if it’s some invisibility cloak he clearly want hanging around there so that makes me thinking what is he ided this driver is not so Keen to hang out with the cops it’s quite a notorious area in Bradford there are quite a few chases around that area at various times of day and night uh clear left clear while m Chris calls in their location tle 51 we’re currently Kensington Street we’ve got a vehicle failing to stop it’s a uh Volkswagen Golf there’s no vrm request Tac double crw in vehicle speed’s currently 30 miles hour oh God we’re going to bom out it’s not the easiest Caring World to get round streets with all these speed bumps Alleyways a tight has a double part it is extremely built up area we’re now right right onto s l Road stand by be l Road 51 we’re onto Squire Lane now uh left left onto Squire Lane back towards Allon Road there are still a lot of people around it shouldn’t be happening this 51 that say yes yes we’re on l Road now we got a right right onto uh Birch Road speed is still 30 0 miles hour we’re back towards Thon road now we go around the same sort of block and in the end that’s his downfall doing loots around the estate has given us us chance to get other people to where we need them to be left left onto St lonard road again St L car overshoots oh judge it you just G too past there but another is waiting there’s no way out the Car mounts the pavement as the driver makes a desperate bid to escape yes for the guy’s still trying to get away at that point in time we thinking oh my God Chris leaps out with the glass hammer in hand I’ve just smashed every window as I’ve gone around as best I can to distract that driver get I still don’t know if he’s got some weapon on him the best thing to do is scream at shower him on the floor it’s almost a shock and a tactic behind behind your back no no [Music] up all right SP uh no there still St more Phil we’ll find out what the scar is now I imagine there’s going to be some drugs in the air but we’ll have a look and we’ll see I mean CRA Craig and Spanish SM out windows yeah I know I’ve got all in my fingers you yeah three bags of weed last year cannabis possession accounted for 34 of all drug offenses but before they can make a more thorough search a new problem emerges the commotion has brought out the locals wishing here around here we’re doing our business here you don’t need to be here so back move get back get back as the police officer you’ve always got to be on guard you’ve always got to be wary the crowd of almost 50 don’t seem aggressive but first impressions can change in a flash in the 14 years since the Bradford riots community policing on streets like these has helped dispel the tensions of the past but even so there’s still a fine balance between fighting crime and keeping the peace look how many people are about what time is it4 9 it would be classed as a high crime area and people will support other people that live in that area there such a crow going this could spark in something more than it needs to be now there’s a lot more of them than there is us so best thing we’re going to do is just move this car now somewhere else we a good sear somewhere else this is extremely common youve end up chasing somebody there’s always always somebody there watching you that could have been 2 in morning and all those people would still have been there how the cops act now could be crucial in maintaining order back in Bradford Chris and Mike’s arrest of a driver who failed to stop and was found with some cannabis has drawn a crowd of locals obviously you can see we’ve got a big crowd around here it’s h it soon soon could turn on us so we’re just going to drive the car up to the police station so we can get it recovered from there makes sense to try and get out of the area as Qui as we can now we’ve caused a bit of a commotion so all the locals are out even at simple straightforward accidents we’ve gone to before where cars have been totally trashed people come out and maybe the drivers start arguing and then the crowd on one side gathers against the crowd on the other side and then we’ve got to get right in the middle of that and then sort it out many a time when we’ve been in this situation when there’s been a big crowd they all start playing on each other if something gets thrown I’m going to have no idea who it is and it could quite easily escalate the situation the cops clear the scene before things get out of hand the driver is taken into custody in another car nice job mate I like it I’ll see you back at R you will I think much faster than that over some of the spay bumps would have struggled in this that I thought he going to say what a superb driver it were like being with Sebastian L that’s what you were going to say the driver’s actions in trying to evade the cops and then ramming two police cars mean that he’ll now face charges of dangerous driving I think some of the people that perhaps live on the other side of the law see o in these Pursuits as perhaps a hazard uh part and parcel of what they have to do I just think we’ve got absolutely no regard for the themselves or anybody else I mean someone could have been walking out of their houses or down streets with the kids and you know he’s ring his way out quite easily get killed and it’s those guys that have to deal with it and pick up the pieces afterwards back at Manningham police station South Bradford Chris and Mike examine the damage their car has suffered we don’t want to get ramm we don’t want to cause all this damage but if it’s a case of that chair going on he’s ultimately going to crash into someone else anyway that’s that was the only way that that were going to stop um we’ we’ve boxed him in as I say m up as close to them as we could to minimize the damage we’ve seen police cars that have been totally totally not annihilated in these instances cars are designed to to break away um luckily as wasn’t so quick new bumper and we’re off again they might be expensive but at the end of day it’s a toilet job they’re there they’re there to do a job with and if if we’re too scared to to damage him we don’t you don’t intentionally want to do it but if you have to then you have to do the main thing is I’m all right I’m all right Mike’s all right we we have that kid everyone else is all right so to be fair in the grand scheme of things that ain’t a bad outcome but Chris has taken some damage of his own um I need to get the glass out of my finger I didn’t even know that that I’d cut myself until after don’t to I looked down and saw my fingers covered in blood and thought Oh my God where’s that come from look at that mate might have to got hospital for that he’s not a pro like you with glass Hammer is he like me and you that’s it we got a bit overzealous the car can now be thoroughly searched for more drugs he’s obviously got no docks has he we’ve done for p with cannabis where’s the Cannabis we give it all for you that’s it yeah three bags all those RIS s for being in possession of a small amount of of drugs nighttime brings new challenges for West yorkshire’s Motorway cops it’s not only Road Safety they deal with but with two major cities on their doorstep they’re often asked to help out in the surrounding towns PC James Alderson and PC dick infield are patrolling in dubury south of Leeds is there a McDonald’s in there not 24 hours I didn’t want just asking at 4:30 a.m. they receive a call from a lead’s unit we got a fail to stop fail to stop on h Road they make their way to the area to help bring the car to a safe stop 64 can you show usend behind the ahead of the vehicle now time to the motor when we’ve heard it’s going towards the motorway we’re thinking well hopefully May well come Southbound which is towards where we are the last thing we want to be do is put excess pressure on them make them drive more dangerously which quite clearly puts members of the public at at great great risk but the micro driver has other ideas vehic G wrong way wrong way wrong way down entry down to M1 onone Carri go right this potentially could uh could get a bit dangerous that is the worst the worst thing that could ever happen in a p once you committed you committed in the wrong direction it’s just s sh up spying it’s it’s an awful thought the other traffic cars are monitoring it but they’re not pursuing it on the WR side of the road so we’re going to make our way into the area in case it comes off if that hit something I on go left here we’ve come full length out of je break it’s not fast us on 653 it’s crashed and it’s looking like a uh potential go I’m off just found the car and it’s they said it’s crashed it’s looking like a potential vle it very quickly turns into your worst nightmare the say it’s carage Absolute Garage you then become fearful of Who’s involved we don’t know who’s potentially fatally injured whether it’s the person in the Micra or if it’s the uh if it’s h something head on is it going to be somebody that’s just minding their own business driving to work that’s the person that’s potentially fatally injured it had disaster written all over it when we when they said it had gone the wrong way down the uh down the WR carriageway Vehicles hit the men’s’s delivery van head on ultimately we’re all human the first thing you are thinking is what are you going to find when you get there more than six police cars are on their way but James and Dick are one of the first to arrive oh J Devastation Carnage there’s a male on the road at the side of the car you can tell when somebody’s in a bad way just by looking at them um that’s experiened that’s from going to numerous collisions over the years this car that they’ve been looking for it’s Tred to come around um a bend and it would appear it’s it a wagon their first concern is the car driver so we’re just going to go have a look certainly not moving could do we finding the driver of the the van make sure they’re cuz they’re going to be quite shook up I would have [Music] thought let’s just get all wagons turn around look at scene preservation don’t we the motorway will be closed immediately to avoid any disturbance of evidence that could be vital for an investigation while Cops start finding out exactly what’s gone on you all right is he just come flying toward you this way the driver of the Blue Van appears uninjured or albeit in shock it’s been just 8 minutes since the crash and paramedics are still some minutes away but Firearms officers the most highly medically trained officers in the force are here to tend to the micro driver the cops know that the next few minutes will be [Music] crucial 17 Mi West in Bradford PC Martin Willis and Lindsay pickles are approaching the end of their 9-hour night shift you’re starting to relax you’re thinking the the night’s just over but then a red car catches their attention ni slow when you see a vehicle driving around that slowly that time in the morning you thinking have they been out drinking is it their vehicle idea certainly worth a check Lindsay runs the details through the police system look it’s all in order well it appears to be here appear to be in of see be CES as well Martin decides to pull him over oh he’s off off in this case it wasn’t for stopping tangle 61 urgent and all of a sudden bang got a the pursuit situation on and then suddenly You’ then got to bring yourself I think right now concentrate time his game on 61 we’ve got vehicle failing to stop um mly Street out of City foxall Astro yes yes we now C Avenue speed is now 5 mph Road surfaces are wet know the traffic on the road saf to continue do you have any of the units in the area we have two back Authority please the officers need permission to continue an increasingly dangerous Chase and they need other units to assist acknowledge still safe to continue we’re still it’s an Eno Road speed is 60 MPH vehicle is two up driver and full SE passenger we still don’t know who he is um what his background is what his intentions are um so it it’s always a difficult and dangerous situation stand by he was not stopping at giveway Junctions Crossing roundabout so if there’s any other vehicles on that road high potential is for uh for a serious uh Collision you have any units close by driving over a ton of metal than the man of is driving you know just a menace we have got a vehicle behind us the Runaway drivers hitting 80 mph yeah got another vehicle ahead on quiet roads and with at least two other units now in place it’s safe for the officers to use their tactical Pursuit and containment training in a strange sort of way it’s quite an exciting thing to do when you’re following a vehicle that’s P the stop but you’ve got to you got to rain that that feeling back in they need to act fast to box the driver in before he heads into town and puts other drivers at [Music] risk it’s a very intense situation the car isn’t giving up at 60 MPH he’s still attempting to evade capture yeah we’re still rul there finally he makes a mistake but it’s not over the driver’s out Martin has the passenger you’re right Martin while the other officers catch the driver [Music] get be behind behind your back now he was just uh ready to fight one on and and did so it had to be brought to the ground two [Music] on the car’s not stolen but Lindsay thinks she knows why he ran can smell drink as I’ve been trying to get the handcuffs on him um but uh luckily with no damage no the members of the public involved right I’m going to ask you for what to call the roadside breath test have you ever done this before yeah yeah last night last night what was the result I’m drunk here but I can’t drive this you couldn’t drive the reason why he ran away is more complex than Lindsay first thought it only been released in the early hours of that morning uh for a similar sort of thing just Beggs Rel really he obviously realized what was going to happen should he have stopped right you failed the road sign breath test okay so on top of dangerous driving failing to stop you’re also under arrest on suspicion of driving whilst over the prescribed limit okay to continue to do it within 24 hours is just uh it’s unbelievable really each year there are more than 250 deaths from drink Drive accidents on Britain’s roads my family could have been on that road I’ve just utter contempt for people like that absolutely utter contempt and his passenger doesn’t seem best pleased either I’m you get in the car with him mate had your friend been drinking yeah uh two uh in a fous gr fous gry May a bit don’t think he’d have any capability to drive if you had that much back on the M1 it’s a much more difficult end to the night shift for James and Dick a micro has collided head on with a van leaving the driver with life-threatening injuries the cops are trying to establish what happened from the only witness he’s actually driven through it stopped and then rung it in you got all his details I’ve got all of his details uh bit shaking as I came around the Cor it’s just that there was a a mangled wreck in the road I’m just relieved that I wasn’t maybe five minutes ahead um this morning um and it it could have been me you know I feel feel for the van driver this is a journey on the M1 he won’t forget I live around the corner so I use it every day virtually but I’ll always remember coming around this morning yeah the van driver has escaped with bruises but the young car driver is still fighting for his life this is the worst it gets the worst it gets it it makes you it makes you shiver God knows how fast a going and coming other way it it’s just no one expects anybody to be traveling the wrong way down a Motorway nobody it’s it’s not what happens paramedics join the Firearms officers to try to save the driver the patient start CPR give 30 compressions they tried they tried for quite some time to revive him analyzing Rhythm it is now safe to touch the patient start CPR it’s not looking good go add confirmation from the paramedics that um the driver of of the Nissan Micra um has been pronounced dead this is the ultimate sacrifice for actions the ultimate sacrifice you have to separate yourself you have to separate your home life from from from your working life ask me if I’ve ever thought about him since yeah I have cuz I’ve driven on that road but I don’t take it home because if not I’d have no family life had the accident happened on this stretch of the motorway just 2 hours later in the middle of rush hour there could have been been multiple fatalities I’ll never forget this incident I know the van driver will never forget it and I know the family of this lad we’ll never forget [Music] it Collision investigator Martin Ward has only a few hours to build a picture of what may have happened although you got all this disruption to the frame of the mic the collisions probably occurred about 5 to 10 m further back the early indication from our collusion Investigation Unit um is that and from speaking to the witness in in the van who’s obviously gone off to hospital van driver has been coming this way and has seen this the mic been doing by the deceased um he’s attempted to Swerve over towards the hard shoulder um however on doing that um this vehicle um the Micra has also moved onto the hard shoulder there’s obviously a lot of Investigation still to be done that’s the early indicator as daylight breaks the Unseen investigations come to a close rush hour is fast approaching and at last one of the busiest intersections of the M1 can reopen with so few Witnesses CCTV camera evidence is crucial it captures the moments the van drives down the slip Road and comes face to face with the car heading in the wrong direction of the motorway it must have been absolute desperation to do that why did it will be forever a mystery after further investigations it was found that the car driver who went the wrong way up the M1 was more than three times the prescribed drink Drive [Music] limit The Runaway driver who eventually got caught received 10 months in prison and a 12mon driving [Music] ban as day turns tonight and traffic quietens the motorway cops widen their sphere of operation tonight PC Adam toll has teamed up with PC Morris Watson they’re patrolling the southern outskirts of Birmingham when a scoda driving the other way catches their attention a look yeah look at that one little young B lady CH yeah let go to vs think one there he is just got around the bed okay I think me and Morris have both had the same feeling that something just wasn’t quite right they just didn’t sit right in the vehicle and hanging around M he’s all over the shop is is as well you sort of see things and you think well where are they going where have they been so you just get it a got Instinct and you think we’ll have a look at it see what it does and then you know we’ll see what what happens from there yeah we’re just following this vehicle he’s a bit erratic on the road at the moment and uh he certainly not sticking to the speed limit so we’re just going to running through the police national computer and then go for an early stop R down for the cameras it was all over the road then the number plate check is now coming through that comes back to a silver SC Rock T here is that yeah yes yes the checks seem to pan out but the way the car is being driven is still giving the cop some concern um the speed limit on this road at the moment is 30 mph and we’re doing about 45 up to 50 mph uh my main concern is he ring driver or is there something else uh we are recording it so we’ve got the evidence that we need and we’ll go for a stop after the the com section if you’re happy with that to yeah yeah man ready yep and he’s going for it okay the driver spots the blue lights and puts his foot down like Al FR Tango 95 we got a vehicle filing to stop filing to stop Bristol Road into City just turning right right into Pebble Mill when we’re on the motorway and we get Pursuit on the motorway it’s it’s contained really a current speed is 80 mph when you come off the motorways especially in a city center Center area like Birmingham you’ve got your pedestrians you’ve got your cyclists you’ve got other people that are driving vehicle is uh getting away from us still safe to continue over chases in the city are all about teamwork letting other units know where the car is headed yeah it’s left left into dogpool Lane straight on mate breaking breaking breaking and he’s uh left left left temporary lost temporary lost stand by uh h on mate it’s straight on straight on straight on yeah it’s left left into dogpool Lane straight on mate still got the vehicle in sight it’s uh a long way in the distance the problem is the cop’s car is built for the motorway while the scoda has the upper hand in the city streets and the driver doesn’t care what risks he takes as a police officer you have to make a judgment call and on this occasion I wasn’t prepared to drive almost three times over the speed limit vehicle out of sight sometimes they get away from you you know it’s a bit of personal Pride you know you’ve lost a car but that’s the way it is drawing like an absolute nut to M he was no reports on it yet that’s Nick I suspect that vehicle we’ve just been following has just been stolen and it’s probably likely that the owner he’s not the where the vehicle’s gone just by the man of the driving that we saw initially at the beginning it it just didn’t seem right and as you saw as soon as we went to stop the vehicle the vehicle made off spr away this time the bad guy has got lucky but there’s a long shift ahead of them and PC’s tol and Watson never forget a car back in Birmingham city center PC’s tol and Watson are still keeping an eye out for the scoda which failed to stop we actually thought at this time that it’s either a stolen car or it’s a stolen car with joy riders in um as it’s been around the city center of Birmingham a couple of times now so we sort of stayed in the area for a few hours just in case it sort of popped out in front of us where’ you reckon M uh up there in left in right here somewhere and the cop’s decision to keep the area under surveillance from their unmarked car has paid off even if it’s taken a while here we go son here we go there it is lo behold about 3 hours later um I just spot the car towards us that’s it yeah that’s the one Yankee Mike Yankee Mike from mango 95 behind why you come back to the city center again he’s already been chased by us once and he’s come back in again for another go so we thought we won in this time we behind the scoda Hol head Hol head circus get Sting it’s Bristol Street out of City get Stinger Street out to City yeah if you could get Stinger to heading towards Bristol Street motor this time the cops have the upper hand extra police units are already standing by with stinger strips designed to puncture the car’s tires and we get the planning place where we want as many officers in the area with stingers we got light them up then after this Junction yeah we’re going to light him up before Bristol Street Motors Uh current speed is uh 40 mph heading towards Bristol Street Motors now we can start now yeah go for it mate once again when the blue lights go on the scoda makes off yeah he’s going yeah vehicle uh is failing to stop we’ve lit the vehicle up it’s approaching Bristol Street Motors now Lane one lights are on the lights up ahead another unit is waiting with a stinger we Tor the patrol that’s with the Stinger to where they are basically we force the car into one way current speed 60 MPH vehicle has been stung vehicle has been stung to’s plan works perfectly as the car heads to the lights a police officer emerges from the shadows and deploys the Stinger the Scot’s tires should slowly deflate bringing the car to a h but the driver has other ideas we still driving so stupidly that you know we’re still having great difficulty in keeping up with him traffic condition is light Road surface is wet approaching traffic lights on green could be your vehicle it could be my vehicle and they don’t care you know they’ll crash in and they’ll run off they won’t stop current speed 8 0 mph in aordable to one hour limit traffic lights on Amber straight across High Gate Road High Gate Road current speed 60 mph in a 30 and it’s safe to continue on he’s not stopping at at roundabouts he’s not slowing down for traffic Junctions where I’ve got to do that yeah vehicle to the red lights the chances he is taking may be Reckless but they are keeping him ahead of the motorway cops yeah it’s on to Golden Hill Road temporary loss temporary loss the cop’s 2ton Motorway car is not helping them keep up with the lighter scoda Small E Highway Small E Highway into City cars awful yeah I know man don’t worry about just do what you can the fact that he got one two three or four tires deflated he was still able to control the vehicle and and get away uh and make you know a decent gap between us left left the Gap is up causes confusion thought no he’s got away again now because we’ve gone the wrong way and to get back to him you know he could be at a sight again and we I thought no we can’t lose it twice in one night the cops may have made a mistake but up ahead the driver in the scoda has made an even bigger one way left left follow that one I think it’s somewhere immediately they went down the Dead End Street which was brilliant for us was the worst thing they could have done as the scoda heads into the dead end other units arrived to help with the arrest I by that time there was a dog unit behind him at least another two patrols and and us and he got nowh to go there are half a dozen cops eager to arrest the two men in the car but PC toll makes sure he gets his hands on one of them you’re under arrest don’t just slide and F to stop and susp a theft of Motor Vehicle you going have to say anything my Army defensive do not mention one question since you like AR in court and you do say may evidence all right the other man the driver tried to make a break for it over a fence luckily PC Watson and some colleagues have it covered all right chap listen to me you’re under arrest a theft motor vehicle anything you want to say it’s a great team effort proper team effort tonight the important thing is that we’ve uh we’ve got a result and no one’s injured and we’re all going to go around at the end of the day including these people as well drive drive 10 miles east of Birmingham on the m6 PC’s Andy Collins and D Nar are racing to reach a car that’s trying to outrun traffic officers who are in Bas responding to a vehicle that’s filed stop for our local traffic units it’s entered the motorway the traffic cars updating other units as they try to stop the speeding car 100 mph okay but they’re traveling so fast the fear is the motorway cops won’t be able to catch up with the chase it’s going almost as quick as we’re going to it’s getting for we’re not that far behind but all the time we was trying to gain on it so we was trying to get more Vehicles Place vehicles with it and try and get the helicopter up as well to help with the pursuit because that’s the best tool that we’ve got the police helicopter travels at more than 130 mph but more importantly it doesn’t have to follow the roads so it can get above a Chase in a matter of minutes uh we are attending we’re about a minute or over H one continue as the helicopter heads cross country on the ground PC’s Callin and Nar are also pushing their car to the limit under in sight of the chase go 22 we are behind you now can move yes yes we are in a Range R I don’t know if you guys want to do a passing maneuver and we’ll take over Pursuit Commander over PC nar’s taken control on the ground and his plan is to surround the car and force it to stop get into that lane mate get to the third lane speed is 1 0 100 milph try keep him on one Asian [Music] driver keep on the surrounding a speeding car on the motorway is a risky maneuver but one the cops are experts in they want him staying on WE ideally wanted to keep it on the motorway but the car wasn’t being driven it was being driven quite dangerously speed is 1 100 mph it’s from 3 to but just as the cops get into position the driver sees a way out a junction up ahead he’s going to come off he’s going to come off stand by stand by it’s just what they don’t need with seconds to spare the driver takes a sharp left towards the exit US take the cops plans have gone out the window they’ll have to think again it’s no good just pursuing a car we’ve got to have a plan to be able to stop it safely a Chase off the motorway through busy streets can be much more dangerous the traffic Patrol offers an extreme solution can we get tactical contact before this gets out of control please we can take it out tactical contact means deliberately hitting the car and forcing it to stop but it’s rarely sanctioned and this is no exception than contact is not authorized used to back off lead the helicopter Al one you have to confirm we are above and we are recording with the arrival of the chopper senior officers have decided it’s safer to pull back yeah basically the helicopters above now we’re into the warsh area on a road so we’re backing off because the helicopter will give the commentary and it’s more safer then um at the moment we’re just going to think of some tactics now uh just bear with me with the helicopter keeping an eye on where the car is going the cops regroup to plan their next move one have we got anyone this Stinger ahead of if they can get ahead of the car they can use a stinger strip to puncture its tires and bring it to a stop what we’re trying to do is get this vehicle stung um and uh hopefully go through that perception if though if we get a chance we all teack this we will do what we call a boxing maneuver on this vehicle we were on country roads uh some of them were unlit um he was going at high speed sometimes on the wrong side of the road as well so uh you know you’re always thinking at the back of your mind what could happen he’s into the village and we’ve got about an hours worth of fuel over the plan depends on the helicopter keeping tabs on the car and letting the cops with the Stinger know exactly where it’s headed 74 we’re in now with stinger Charlie 74 ining with sting Al one up Al one still be 4 Z 27 I think it was back to enter Brink Clover towards Brink clover Tango Char unit call sign in brink with stinger call sign together the Stinger unit’s in place but something’s gone wrong did they sting in there cuz there was a car out there quick the cops were in the right place but they couldn’t get the stinger deployed in time stand’s coming to a t Junction in the village I’ll tell you which way he’s going stand by one they need to devise a new plan of action but their luck may have turned I don’t think this BL knows where he’s going does he yeah he’s just got side he did an immediate right at the T Junction then a first left the driver may be lost but 600 ft above him the chopper can see exactly where he’s going he’s C A Brink he’s on an unnamed road towards centry way dead end we think him now it’s the driver who needs a new plan Al one for up with the road ahead blocked he veers into the bushes looking for a way out but his car is going nowhere why all units make the nights all units make the Nights vehicle stopped immediately the car is surrounded by the cops it was a bit of a hectic scene uh because we thought that these males had run off into the fields but uh when I went over to the vehicle all these about four or five people are still in the vehicle okay three 1 2 3 get up I got one one of my we worry about that later mate uh yeah basically uh the vehicles come to arrest the occupants haven’t gone for uh themed it so I think we’ve got four in custy as you can see the cars obviously lost control come to the dead end and crashed there are four teenagers but the one the cops really want is the driver who’s tried to pull a fast one the driver’s trying to be clever and he jumped into the back seat so he couldn’t be identified as uh the driver but luckily one of the traffic vehicles that were uh behind it originally uh could ID the driver straight away because the driver’s too young to have a license the cops suspect he’s taken the car without the owner’s consent and that may also explain why he took such risks to try to get away the use of police helicopters to keep track of criminals trying to flee from the cops is on the increase and here in the Midlands with more than 500 M of roads to patrol the central mway police group can call on two5 million Shoppers to help stop drivers who they think are breaking the law on the M5 south of Birmingham PC’s Adam tol and John Martin have been called in to support colleagues who are following a suspect car we’ve got information that there’s um a car that’s involved in drug Supply it’s um it’s gone up towards the the top end of the motor I m6 and it’s now coming back down hopefully we can assist the other officers in stopping the vehicle and if there’s any drugs on board then uh we can recover them and uh deal with the person that’s got them meanwhile the West Midlands police helicopter Alpha Oscar 1 is also on its way to help out the helicopter can say exactly where it’s going and it can give us time to en able to get us in position and sort out tactics well before the vehicle’s even near us just coming up towards Junction one M yep as the helicopter crew updates the cops following the with their progress M ala we’re over the M5 now we are down linking just trying to pick the vehicle up and the vehicle is committed committedly pces tol and Martin are closing in from the other direction we can get to four mate I think they plan to use a stinger to stop the car at the junction Beyond frankley Services 921 M to Frankle one to Frankl okay mate Stinger yeah yeah we’ll have sting ready at junction 4 if the vehicle does fail to stop when the officers put the lights and sirens on they’ll be able to force it off at junction 4 and we’ll be a to sting it get the vehicle stopped hopefully get the drugs everyone’s a winner things never sort happen that way though do they 92 92 all controls and Air1 it looks like he’s coming up the suspects in the car may be wise to the cops on their tail m al have got an off off frankly services off off frankly services there’s no place for the Stinger now yeah okay we make up that way then as the driver heads into the service station two unmarked patrol cars quickly moved to block his exit stop but it looks like he has other ideas he accelerates away leaving the cops scrambling to catch up Mike got vehicle filing to stop now uh he’s going to be making his exit now back up towards the M they lose sight of the car for crucial seconds as it speeds through an underpass uh F stop joining Junction for M5 but just as PC’s toll and Martin pull into the services one of the unmark patrol cars catches up with the driver for vehicle is around the back of the service station and now he looks like he’s boxed in this time he’s going nowhere yeah we do have the vehicle stopped and two detained over as PC’s toll and Martin get to the car it’s all over do [Music] so the arrested men appear to have no drugs on them but the helicopter crew noticed something as the car emerged from the tunnel he did look like he threw something out as he was going through the uh underpass of the my service station threw something out of the window basically it’s come on to the services rammed the silver police vehicle here and tried to make good their escape uh they’ve got nowhere to go and two have been detained for possession of intent of Supply yes where where L the stuff man the common rule of thumb with most people that have are carrying drugs once they’ve got the police behind them they’ll do everything they can to get rid of the evidence the vehicle have managed to get a split second uh blind spot on the police vehicle and they’ve obviously disposed the drugs finding those drugs is key to their case luckily PC Martin has located the bag or at least what’s left of it the uh bag of white powder has been thrown from the vehicle which is uh underneath uh just underneath the bridge what we’re looking at doing is the bag has split it looks like um it’s possibly ketamine or cocaine uh we just need recovery of it the drugs had hit the back of the sign and it had caught all in the bottom of the um the sign at the back it had gone on the floor underneath it’ gone on the pavement on the roadway so you can imagine turning up to a job and thinking where do I start this this was one of them it’s good job it’s not windy isn’t it we’ have all had a face full of it is it immediately we thinking well we need to preserve this but how option is get a carry back from the Y yeah just to cover it up cuz if it starts raining we mean yeah that’s that’s it all gone um there are no guidelines in the police manual on how to deal with a situation like this so PC Martin has to do some improvising yeah I mean if that’s cocaine that’s quite a substantial amount of cocaine that is and you’re looking at you know coming up to thousands tens of thousands potentially in that but until we get it examined then we won’t know if they can keep the powder from blowing away then the cops can build the case against the men meanwhile PC toll is taking a closer look at the car we know the drugs have been thrown out of the vehicle but there’s potentially more drugs hidden in the car or money or any evidence linking them to dealing drugs as well so far his search isn’t proving fruitful they managed to dispose of absolutely everything um up against the road sign there was absolutely nothing in the car it’s actually cleaner than my car and that makes the recovery of the discarded package even more important have you got any any clean brushes that you can just have got in your cupboard that we could use no new ones all right I don’t suppose in inside there you’ve got access to any little brushes or anything like that even if it’s in a shop and we have to pay for it right we may have to perchas some UT utensils to recover the drugs however if that’s the way we have to do it that’s the way have to do but just recovering the powder isn’t enough they also need to prove that the package was thrown out of the car we want to secure preserve and have everything on camera so that it’s the case is watertight but without an eyewitness or footage from the helicopter it could be a challenge to make the charges against the men stick over on the M5 at frankly Services PC Martin is still trying to preserve a quantity of white powder thought to be drugs thrown by two men from their car just before they arrested and he’s finally managed to blag a useful tool to gather the powder a small nail brush have you seen on the other side of there mate just come around a bit further it’s all in there where he’s at the side so that’s what they’ve been telling to do they it and smash split the bag and it all goes over it’s all down there yeah with so much white powder around the cops decide it’s time to call in the Specialists we thought no instead of me scraping all the the drugs up with a pink nail brush I think we better get the professional people to come out and do it and do a proper job right west mid Sako potentially coming and a drugs dog’s on his way so I’m not going to get to use my brush as they wait for the scenes of crime officer to help recover the powder PC Chris Bradley brings some good news a witness saw a package hit the sign he’s a good witness he good good little SN and you can’t say who’s throwing it and he can’t tell us what the drivers are but you can say it’s definitely wasn’t there before perspective just spoke to a witness who’s is working out the back hear some noise um sees the car come past seees something being thrown out of it um sees police presence and whatnot going around the side uh the petrol station and then he sees some kind of powder like snow just all over the place and the sign still shaking so I’ve been taking a statement off him for that and then uh but the officers that are dealing see where it goes from there it’s good evidence but because the witness can’t identify the car it’s not conclusive and there’s more good news the specialist scenes of crime officer arrives much to the relief of PC Martin we obviously got all this just uh hid in it so that’s the bag of drugs so basically we just need it recovered as best as we can but we didn’t know how the best way it was going to be to get all this the powder back from a collecting the powder from the Stony ground is also a first for the expert this sort of thing well it never happen we find drugs of course and we recover drugs a lot but not on this sort of surface and PC Martin’s nail brush comes in useful after all it’s worked out been one of the best tools even the so guys even said a great tool so I think he’ll be getting one in his bag from now on and there’s even more good news for the cops The crucial moments as the men through the bag out of the car have been caught on CCTV you just see it just over there uh just as that Lor’s coming up there’s a a camera pointing up just uh just by that bridge the camera picks up the car as it heads through the underpass the passenger door opens and the bag flies out showering the road sign with powder it’s all come together we’ve seized the drugs we’ve got two people in custody we’ve got camera footage of it and um an eyewitness doesn’t really get much better than that as uh you know as far as a job goes it’s uh almost like already done and dusted so you could say all that’s left for PC’s toll and Martin to do is to wash away the last traces of the powder uh we didn’t want people lined up on the streets trying to collect white powder so we had to make sure that we’ clean the scene as best we could um yeah I think John did a good job to be fair he was uh he was a good scrubber job done [Music]

Usual suspects……again. When are the authorities and politicians in this country going to stop pandering to these people for fear of being branded racists 🤬🤬
I literally cant remember EVER seeing PC TOAL be able to keep up in pursuits, ever since he first appeared on 'motorway cops' many years ago I have never seen him successfully catch anything, he grates me with his righteous and patronising quotes then loses every car he gets behind, I think he would be better suited on foot at least they couldn't get away……..he tries to talk his way out of his incompetence on the roads.
Don’t let immigrants in the country they are worse than local criminals
i have always wondered who is on the end of the phone that the police use in the car… Why cant they just use their radios ?
Nice to have the original broadcast date shown. 👍

0:11 Working long hours on the road make it relatively easy to understand why it may be meal time at the end of a long shift.
2:34 When I think of teatime, I think of that very afternoon or evening meal as British English would describe it.

Pickles is that a real name?
Not everyone knows this, but part of police training, and indeed part of their contract is to put themselves before innocent people. So if they are faced with someone with a knife, or a gun then they stand in the way. I am so proud of our police force cause they dont walk the streets armed to the teeth like you find in other countries and yet they will still answer the call if needed. Bless them all
