When testing my setup for crossing the Alps in a few days on my local trails I realized that the drybag up front hits the front tire when going over rough terrain and the suspension fork is all the way down. Is there any hack how I could avoid the rub? It's a harness system (Zefal) and I think I got it mounted as it should be. I am not sure if the rub is a bad thing, worst case would be I need to buy a new drybag after a while. Bud maybe someone has a tip for me.

  1. Carradice’s bagman bar rack would work but it’s a bit spendy.

I’ve also used a cheap ‘handlebar accessory mount’ as a support strut that works pretty well. rockbros make a decent one (ROCKBROS Bike Handlebar Extender Lightweight Bike Double Bar Clamp) but there’s plenty on Amazon etc.

If the conditions are dry, you could maybe turn your muckguard around on the front? Not sure if that would be a temporary fix.

  3. Violet strap around the bag in the middle to create a ‘crease’ parallel to the tire.

As Dave said, try a strap around bag to handlebar. A Voile strap. I like blue, but violet is pretty too.

If you can’t bring the top bag closer to the handlebars, I would try adding some bag between the roll and the frame, so the roll bag hangs a little higher.

  6. Think it’s gonna be pretty hard with that harness and dry bag combo. The issues I see are:

    1. The harness has no structure so it sags
    2. The dry bag diameter is too big, making front wheel clearance even worse.
    3. You need to be able to rotate it upwards and support it from the back so it doesn’t rotate back downwards into the wheel.

The relatively cheap setup I use on my mountain bike is the Outer Shell harness system + Revelate dry bag + aliexpress carbon “accessory bar” for support. It’s really stable and only rubs if I fully compress my suspension (120mm fork).

Old Man Mountain Elkhorn front rack? It mounts to the thru-axle of the fork.

Cut a section of PVC pipe and mount it between your bars and the harness to push everything foward and away from the tire – works like a charm and costs like $5.
