  1. The black ring has two pin divots that should unscrew to take sprocket off. The groves bit is part of the axle

  2. The grooved middle part is your axle locknut. Leave that be, you don’t need to remove the axle to change your freehub.

    Instead get a 2prong tool for the freehub and put it in a vise, wheel on top and rotate it counter clockwise (wheel backwards).

    You’re on the right track, but you have a Suntour freewheel tool. You have a Maillard freewheel there. You need this:

    You don’t need to remove the locknut (the grooves thing) on the axle to remove the freewheel. Easiest way to use the tool is to put it in a bench vise facing up, place the wheel and freewheel on it, and grasping the tire with both hands, give it a sharp tug counterclockwise.
